Looking for *SIMPLE* 4 Player games on the GAMECUBE

Thought I'd pick up some more wavebirds and play some games with my 6 year-old twin nephews this weekend. The Cube was chosen because of portability, durability, and the wavebirds themselves.

We gotta play all at once, and the game has to be dead simple. If there was some 4 player drive-a-car-into-buildings game I'd pick that up in a heartbeat, because that's about where these two are. Also, it should go without saying that the game content cannot be at all mature.

The Mario Party series sprung to mind. But if I have to unlock minigames for us to play by playing the normal mode myself, then forget it. In any of the three Cube Parties, is there a way to just unlock all or a portion of the minigames right off the bat?

I already have SSBM, and I suppose we could play that for a while. That game would teach them the controller too. If they get the controller down, then we could move on to more complex stuff, but I'd probably want to turn off items just to keep it simple.

Well, that's about all I've thought it through so far. If anybody has helpful suggestions I would appreciate the input.

That's the only one I can think of. There has to be something in there that would appeal to your nephews.

Edit: Doh!
Tons to unlock: Play through the single player mode to unlock over 200 minigames and more than a dozen additional features, including bonus game modes, movies, music videos and more

Super Monkey Ball 1 or 2
Most of the party games only need the control stick and A button.

Bomberman Generations (the first Bomberman for GC)

Mario Party 5+

You dont unlock mini games in the board mode which is what the main game is in 4 player. Unlocking mini games is for the mini game mode if you want play them outside of boards :) Playing the 4 player unlocks them to play in the mini game mode anyways. You wont regret it.

Mario Kart

You know the drill.

The idiots who will say Monkeyball are conning you. Its about as unfun as multiplayer games get. Same for F-Zero.

Get the Midway arcade collections.

Nothing kills time like a never-ending session of Gauntlet or Rampage.

Kirby's Air Ride. I know I'll regret this, but seriously. It's super colorful and hectic, you can drive after other people or just drive around picking up power-ups and busting open boxes, finding elevators or big jumps, etc. It seems perfect for your needs as it's easy, bright and loud and doesn't really require structured racing.

I agree. However, question for those who own the Midway Vol. 1 for Gamecube - if you are only playing Gauntlet #1 alone, how do you choose any other character other than the warrior? I think you have to insert an additional controller into a different port than the first from the left, but there is no mention of it in the manual. I can't figure it out for some reason.

I'd say Super Smash Brothers Melee and Kirby's Air Ride.

I think you have to unlock the Multiplayer modes in Wario Ware, but its as easy as playing through each mode once I think.

All the choices mentioned so far are ones that I'd recommend -- you could also pick up R:Racers or Pacman World 2 for the Pacman VS bonus disk if you have a GBA at your disposal.

Zelda: Four Swords Adventures is simple but deeply fun.

Super Monkey Ball is one of the best, and yet simple, games on the Gamecube. You will need to play through the "Normal Mode" a few times on whatever difficulties you choose in order to get the points needed to unlock minigames though. Thats where multiplayer time will probably go. Same for the sequel.

Wario Ware Mega Game$ is also a game where you have to unlock minigames, however you don't have to be any good. Just playing one set of multiplayer games, unlocks more multiplayer games. Whether you suck at it or not.

Donkey Konga + Jungle Beat, would get you two games and two bongos. Possible an expensive endeavour, but you might find that rewarding too.

Mario Kart has its fair share of simple tracks, it always tells you if you're going the wrong way, and it won't let you fall off of bottomless ledges without placing you back with your nose facing the head of the pack. The multiplayer is also quite simple to grasp. It might be worth reconsidering.

I haven't played KAR but if what people are saying is true - it looks like a good cheap and cheerful option as well.

Oh shit, Kirby Air Ride actually might be a good choice!

It is possible to win some of the races without ever picking up the controller, so I don't think they'd ever become frustrated. Plus, there isn't really anything to get stuck on, as far as I know. The game is extremely bright and colorful, which should at least get their attention.

I really don't think the Monkey Ball suggestions are good, though. The multiplayer stuff is pretty simplistic and potentially too complex and the other content would be impossible for them, I'd say...
