I was watching the commercial for Narnia, and the wolf said something or other.

PLEASE tell me that was a hallucination or something, because the CGI in this looks horrible. I mean, Babe looked more convincing. I don't think I can stand to see three hours of crappy animals talking. :(

Someone, please, tell me this movie can't be that silly and contrived.

Well, I mean, past what I'm hearing about Jesus Lion and evil black people...

The CG looks laughable--I mean, I can see a lot of tech went into it, but it's of the kind that you KNOW it's CG by looking at it. Whatever happened to the improvements we were supposed to see over T2 and Jurassic Park?

But honestly, it's like someone took LOTR and remade it in Korea.

the game looks the same, they ripped off WoW for style

Really? You mean that's not a real talking wolf?

I think the CG is pretty bad as well, but I'm a hater of CG in general. It ALWAYS looks bad.

The reviews have been positive so far and I'm looking forward to taking my son to see it.

That's a matter of opinion. Some subtle CG, when blended well with live action, can look quite nice, actually.

Ill take bad CGI and a decent story over crap like Star Wars Episode I-III any day of the week.

Amen.

I don't know if I can suffer the silliness of poorly animated talking animals, though. :-|

I felt the same way Matlock did after seeing the theatrical trailer. but the extended trailer posted in the other thread restored my faith in the film. My only problem is Liam's voice. It doesn't fit Aslan at all, IMO.

No, I agree. I kept screaming "He's really Rha's Ah Ghul!!!' during the trailer.

LOTR battle sequences at best. With a PG, you can't really get up to Braveheart levels. ;)

:lol

I'm always a little skeptical. Especially when it comes to violence. I'm also assuming thats a US rating. It seems that in the US violence = good and sex = bad when it comes to ratings.

My son is also 4 and I'm taking him to see it. From what I've read the battle scenes are on the violent side but there is no blood or gore.

You might want to see it first before taking him, but I'm pretty certain it's going to be quite tame. This is a family film after all.

I was going to disagree, but then I watched the trailer again, and some of the CG does look really bad (Aslan and those beavers).

..considering i never seen an animal speak english...how is that ever going to look real, dogs/wolves cant even move their mouths like that man. I think they are trying to bring the story to life not make it imitate real life.

I think the CG looks excellent, and I commented about it to my girlfriend yesterday. The reason I like it is because it doesn't look like it's trying super hard to look like real life. It's a fantasy movie and I think the CG(from what i could see in the trailer) fits the part perfectly. Unlike every other movie ever that tries to make it look real and fails miserably.

I havn't seen the trailer, but i'm a fan of the books, and my grandma used to have the old movies on tape, watched them heaps when I was little. I don't care if its not top quality CG as long as its faithfull to the source.

And the talking wolf was probably Maugrim, who is a werewolf. So the talking is sorta justified. :P

I saw Oli's avatar right above your post, and I was like, "What?! Olimario has a four year old son?! Jesus christ!".

Oh yeah totally, I remember I saw that movie where those animals were talking, and I was totally like "Wow that totally looks like those animals are talking".

Like, this movie looks so fake, even those animals like they have on that muppet show would have totally been better lol.

I watched that, and again, it still looks like the Lord of the Rings films were remade by Koreans.

I don't give a crap if the book came out 50 years ago, the film just looks so bad and so derivative.

Hey awesome, that means you won't go see it and we won't have to listen to your shitty opinion about it later rite ?

Regarding Aslan:

Andrew Adamson is known for getting great performances from ogres, donkeys, and gingerbread men. That's why the Shrek director was a natural choice for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, due December 9. The Disney film, based on the C. S. Lewis tale, mixes actors with computer-generated animation to bring the author's menagerie of mythical creatures to life. The protagonist, a messianic martyr, is a lion named Aslan. "I wanted Aslan to be convincing as a real lion, but be able to talk and emote without shattering that reality," Adamson says. Visual f/x studio Rhythm and Hues spent one year developing specific fur techniques for the film: The resulting character has 500,000 polygons and more than 5 million individually rendered hairs. Up to 50 animators toiled exclusively over the big cat, whose growl is supplied by Liam Neeson. Hopefully Adamson can work the same magic with child actors.
