So I know that both Return of the King and LOTR trilogy box set are out tomorrow. My question is, will there be any OTHER versions to be coming out in the future? I mean is Peter Jackson gonna pull out the "extra special final directors cut" of all 3 movies next year and make them all 5 hours long? Any news/rumours about future editions of the movies?

Not until HD-DVD.
Kinda suits me, I just collected all the EEs in separate editions (got ROTK this Saturday).
Don't really want to be tempted with another complete trilogy boxset - unless it's HD, which I would definately want to get.
Though I worry I will want it on BluRay :(

And it won't really be new cuts of the movies. Basically the three EEs + the current special features + everything they didn't put on the current releases such as the deleted scenes and alternate footage (there's a bunch).

Well frankly the HD version alone of these movies would probably be worth it for me :) any extras are just a bonus.
I'm pretty happy with the EE cuts as they are.

How much better are the HD-DVDs actually gonna be? I mean regular DVDs are pretty good as it is. Would it actually be worth upgrading your entire DVD collection to those things?

When the DVD's first came out... I bought each one...

So, I only have the original versions... I personally don't need the directors cut... or added scenes...

I haven't even watch part II & III yet... NO TIME! So why do I need the added minutes...

Why did you buy them then?

My friends who haven't seen the extended editions don't understand why I bought them. I've tried explaining it, but they think it's just the original cut of the movie with a menu option to access the "extra scenes". I can't get any of them to sit down and watch.

The extended editions are really worth it. I can't stand to watch the theatrical cuts anymore, it feels like I'm watching the movies on TV and they're editing it for time.
