When your character begins their journey, they’ll be given the Umbral lamp, which is your bridge between the realms of Axiom and Umbral. While you’re in Axiom, you can open up a window into Umbral by holding up the lamp, allowing you to peer into the parallel world, and potentially spot interesting differences or pathways that may provide you with a clue as to where to go

That sounds neat. Reminds me a bit of Soul Reaver 2.

Not every path can be illuminated with just a lamp, however, and eventually you will have to voluntarily pull yourself into Umbral in order to physically interact with certain objects that will allow you to find a path forward. Coming into Umbral of your own volition comes with a very significant risk, however. You see, while in Axiom, if you die, you’re able to respawn in Umbral, essentially giving yourself a second chance. But if you die in Umbral, you’re actually dead
This “journey” of running back to your dropped currency when you die is one of the main things that prompted the development of this umbral mechanic. The team was looking for a way to innovate on that “deathloop” that we’ve seen so many times in other Soulslikes and wanted it to check a series of boxes: First, they wanted to avoid the cycle of the game over screen, racing back to get your fallen resources, and repeating this over and over again every time you die. They also wanted to mitigate the frustration caused from sudden deaths that force the player to deal with the consequence of failure. And finally they wanted a system where you didn’t lose your experience upon the first death, and instead had the option to disengage, unless you were in a boss fight.

Also interesting. Sounds like the dual world set up is a unique addition. They've actually piqued my curiosity with this preview. Would appreciate a demo still.

Some of the combat elements with the dual world stuff also sound kinda awesome. Enemies on the "other side" can grab you when you're using your lamp and pull you into the other realm. You can disconnect a soul from enemies and directly damage their spirit instead.

Haven't looked at any of these yet but I hope some talk about the sound design. The previous previews looked good but most attacks sounded flaccid.

Wouldn't be enough to make me skip the game as I'm very much looking forward to it but it'd be a rather big negative to me if those aren't just placeholder/incomplete sounds.

Ziostorm touched on this topic a little in his video. The devs have apparently heard this concern from the community and are making changes to the combat sound design.

For me its way too on the nose on where they get their "inspiration". There is literally enemy uses his head to attack similar to Pumpkin heads in Elden Ring.

I think this game looks really good tbh.

Edit: wait, this is developed by a newly formed subsidiary of one of the devs of the original game? Interesting.

I dunno, I mean I haven’t watched an extensive amount of footage, just trailers and skimmed some gameplay footage, but it looks really good to me.

Isn’t this basically Looney Toons Goku?

Yep, this will replace Souls for me this year since From is busy making a game that isn't for me. Looks great!

I wasn't a big fan of the first game, felt really clunky and slow. Was hard to get in to. This looks way more polished.

Also very much digging the world design. I really like how you can enter another realm whilst you're playing.
Same. I wasn’t digging the cumbersome character animations. This looks much much better. I hope they nail it. All the previews look good. It looks like it has a lot more variety to levels and enemies. The bosses don’t look like push overs either.

I enjoyed the hell out of the first one.

I hope Harkyn (the main character of the first one) has some reference in this game.

awesome. they seem really confident having early previews, dev talks etc. watching .

We will see, i am tempted to buy this but really holding back because that umbral switch has me hesitant.

This looks dope as hell but it's probably got typical clunky souls gameplay which means I'll hate it. I'll probably watch some plays of it though.

I'm not sure if I need or want another MeToo title of that genre after having played the best in class. Especially if there's rarely a unique spin to it that set these games apart.

Will watch it closely, though. Maybe if it delivers more in terms of plot and storyline... then I'd be more interested.

Mistakenly quoted and posted lol. Am in a bus and had my phone in my hand while looking out. Apparently I posted!
On topic I am pretty excited about this one. Have it pre-ordered.

One week to go and my hype is intensifying. About a month before Lies of P released I posted in another thread that Lords looks the better of the two and the one I was more excited about. Indeed, initially I wasn't even going to pick up Lies at launch but so glad I did, it's one of my favourites of this year. All of this is to say that if Lords is as good as Lies I'll be a very happy man but I think there's a chance it'll be even *better*. I feel like I'll be going full mage with this one, can't wait 🪄

Yeah i don't know...the lamp thing is neat but lies of P seems more original with the whole pinocchio theme.

It's hard to judge souls games without directly trying them.
