yayz, I'm gonna try to catch it. The first two were pretty fun. I thought some of it was fairly straight forward and cliche, but I liked...

the fact that Kate was the criminal and not the Hillbilly type guy who shot down the polar bear

Uh....Didn't last week's "Next week on Lost" have a lot more action than what we saw? It showed Terry O Quinn's character with a bunch of blades, and I thought this ep was going to have something to do with their lack of food. It wasn't a bad episode, and I still love the show. But I went in expecting a bit more clarity, and was let down

The co-creator wrote that ep...He's taking a bit of a risk by not giving the audience what it obviously wants, in at least one answer (Kate) to the many questions posed. They're obviously pushing the Clean Slate (it was the episode's title) angle, and we'll see how the coming weeks unfold. I just hope they don't turn into epic cockteases

hey, can somebody tell me what happened the last 10 seconds fo the show? my dv-r went black. grr

Not much at all. At least on the surface. The boy got his dog back....his dad (we're not sure if that's what he is, but whatever) brought the dog to him, and we saw a shot of Terry O Quinn's character looking ahead, with a frown (as usual) Evil Menacing music picks up, and we're left kind of in the lurch. Cut to the Lost title and it's over

Okay...

My views on the episode are as follows.

I think this is JJ Abrams' way of reshaping the expectations for this series.

It won't be all action, all the time. There will be the action moments (Kate's car chase, Father's run through the woods) and there will be moments with no action. That is simply the way the show will work.

It won't be like the Pilot every week; a huge mystery won't be solved every episode. It's about building a society and characters.

I liked this episode. It was not revolutionary television, nor as good as the pilot. But it is still entertaining, confusing, and generally interesting.

Memles' Speculation Zone

It's obvious Locke is insane. Let's face it; it seems, considering they showed it in the "Previously on..." clip, that the emphasis on the light and dark pieces, may later represent two sides of people who come together on the island.

As I see it, Almost all people have some sort of partner.

Jack and Kate
Sun and...Guy who Orders Sun around.
Walt and his father
Sawyer and Sayed (They're enemies, but a pair)
Charlie and Claire (I think, Pregnant Lady)
Shannon and her Brother.

The Happy Happy Montage at the end of the episode showed each of these pairs bonding, and almost coming to terms with one another. Only Hurley and Locke were left out, which I think is significant.

If they really do split up into two different sides (Good and Evil, Black and White...just two different groups period) I'd expect each of these pairs to break up. The dog will run away, and Walt will blame his father. Claire will catch Charlie doing Heroin. Sawyer and Sayed don't need such a reason. The Korean wife will be tired of being opressed. Shannon will be tired of her brother's nagging.

I think Jack and Kate is the only one without some form of block easily wedged between them. And there's till 3/4 of the survivors we've yet to really meet.

The fact that I can think about all that through a simple 2 minute montage shows why I love this show. Simple as that.

Anyone want to spoiler tag the preview for next week for me? Missed it.

Very interesting thoughts. Certainly a good chance that's true, the pairing is quite obvious. Do you remember what the preview was for this week's episode, last week? Call me crazy, but they really edited oddly, I swear I saw shots that weren't in this episode in that preview. I'll just stick to avoiding the previews I guess.

I've been on Torrents only until this week, so no previews, and still now I can only get it on the Canadian station, so still no previews.

I have read the same, though, that there seems like some cuts to make it seem more action packed than it ended up being.

The preveiw for next week is the one where they need food. It shows I thin Locke throwing the knife and saying let's hunt. Then it showed him in the jungle holding a knife and confroting some huge creature coming through the bush. That's about it.

The preview for next week also showed
the black woman telling Jack that she doesn't believe her husband is dead, and it showed Jack (I think) spotting a mysterious man in a suit slip into the forest.

I hope that we don't get many more flashbacks. As Jack says, their pasts don't really matter to them, and I would add that they also don't matter to me. I want to see these people bond and develop while on the island. I don't care what was going on before. It bears little relevance.

Wholeheartedly disagree; understanding where they come from may not be important to their interpersoonal relations, but I think it is important to the viewer in order to understand why they were on the flight and where they come from. Jack might not want to know, but damnit I do!

From now on, each episode's back story will resolve on one character, I think...I believe next week is
Charlie

They can do the backstories for a while....But there are a LOT of people on that island, and of course we'd like to see more on-island stuff. It'll be interesting to see how they balance it. Today's episode was nearly all backstory, and nothing important on-island. Maybe ep 3 will put into play the stuff that ep 2 set up...

I don't know, I mean, does knowing Kate's background really add anything? That knowledge hasn't changed my view of Kate at all. The first two episodes set her up, and her background did nothing to change my impression of her. Maybe other characters will have revealing backgrounds, but I don't think Kate's did anything. I really felt that Jack was speaking from the audience perspective at the end. I'm not really sure that anything we need to know can't just be revealed with dialogue or action and not full flashbacks.

I just think it'd be better if we were in the same position as the characters. We don't know much about the others and it doesn't really matter a whole lot what they did in the past. What matters is how they move forward.

I only remembered to start recording this 15 minutes after it started, anyone willing to sum up what happens during that period? Thanks.

I hate television, but I love this show :D

I like how there is predictable things, but also there are little surprises and twists that they don't make a big deal about but that are pretty interesting
When kate digs out her money stash, and the light clicks on it tricks you into thinking she was stealing

I will discuss my thoughts more in a few minutes.
