So, let me start off by saying I have never seen the show, well, technicaly that's not true, I saw a few minutes of an episode one time, but was super tired when trying to watch and fell asleep.

But I have heard a lot of good stuff about the show, and I like the whole stranded on an island dynamis, and I recantly saw an add the DVD is coming out, so I am wondering, is the show a good show to get for someone who hasnt seen it? I know that like 24 it has a continual story, and I am a huge 24 fan, is the show worth it for me?

And also, I am wondering, does the show only constantly deal with everyone being stranded? Because while that can be intresting, I wonder is that alone what generates so much intrest in the show? or is there something more?

It does but the island constantly brings forward new mysteries in regards to their survival and it definately keeps things interesting.

This box set will be mine when i find it.

You know, on paper, that show doesn't sound much. I've been putting it on the backburner for the whole year, thinking "nah, this can't be that good, etc.", but MAN, when my wife and I started watching it, we literally couldn't stop - episode after episode! It's that good. I can't remember being so hooked on a TV show since probably the first time I saw X-files.

Yes, there's something more to it than just simple stories about surviving being stranded. There's a fiction side to it, there's excellent acting, fantastic production quality, very crafty telling of character's backstories. There are so many holy shit moments in that show that it's unbelievable - and the best of all, there's a detective/adventurous side to it. At times, watching it is like playing an adventure game because you feel like you should be figuring out things that characters on the show are trying to figure out, and even better than that, you actually often have enough clues to do just that (as opposed to classic Sherlock Holmes stories, where only the smartass detective has an access to enough clues and backstory to figure things out, and viewers are left out in the cold)

If you're planning on watching the DVD, remember this- you only have two weeks from when it comes out until season 2 starts! So you'll either have to overload on Lost or have TiVo tape the early episodes of season 2 for you while you catch up.

LOST SERIES 2 EP 1

Fade in to MYSTERIOUS ISLAND. Everybody is TIRED or HUNGRY or TRYING TO DISGUISE THEIR MYSTERIOUS PAST. Cut to KATE. KATE is standing around, looking HOT.

In Spain, a cable network began airing the series some months ago. When they had showed around 6 or 8 episodes, TVE (just like Britain's BBC- free and for all the country), began airing it. They finished the first season on Monday, and they have just begun rerunning it.

Man, I can't wait until 9/23 (which is when I hope to have the first episode).

And all thanks to the GAF praise of the series.

Gracias, GAF!!!

I refused to watch Lost when it first started on TV because of my undying hatred of JJ Abrams, but I picked up the DVD set today and just finished the first disc.

Definitely like it, and will watch a disc every day until I finish the first season and will watch the second season. JJ Abrams still sucks though.

It's so good. Ch4 started showing it here just over a month ago, so we're like 4 or 5 episodes in. They really hyped the hell out of it, massive, massive advertising campaign, and it payed off. The opener was the most watched American import ever I think (definitely on Ch4, and IIRC in British television history), over 6 million viewers. Hopefully it's sustained those figures. I don't see how it couldn't, it must be impossible not to be hooked by this show.

Hah, I forgot about Superman Sr. yelling at Clark and telling him to get the hell back in his body.

Now, granted, I absolutely despise Superman, so that script review just reads as hillarious. But that's some bad stuff right there if you want to see anything resembling the story that we all know and are bored to tears by.

edit: Holy hell, we're coming up on the three year aniversary of the review of that abortion of a script.

Count me as one who missed the first eps and then purposely missed everyone after that so I could watch them in order. Picked up the DVD at Best Buy. I think it's $35 for RewardZone members this week plus I had a $20 gift certificate. It came with a bonus disc and $10 off coupon for Desperate Housewives which is another show I deliberately missed and plan to pick up on DVD.

After watching the first 2 eps of Lost I am hooked. I'm going to be watching this like crazy to be ready for Season 2.

Lost totally kicks ass! I think Marco did a good job of summing it up.. I'll just add if they continue with the quality the first season presented I think it'll end up being a classic series.

So what exactly is on that "extra dvd." the last time I got one of htose from best buy, it was full of crap.

Oh why must this and House be ~$50 each. Hell, even if they were $30 I could barely afford them. I suppose they deserve to cost that much (as opposed to some other shows...), but I would still love to own them.

Oh my god!

I get up today, I think to my self, I made that thread on GAF, and I rememberd a few people come on and say 'yes, buy it'. I than think, sure, it's easy for them to say as there fans of the series, just like I could about 24 to someone else. But for me, I wasnt sure if I really wanted to go to Future Shop and drop $60 on a show I have never watched. But in the end I decided to go for it. I just fisnished watching the 4th episode, and the first disc. I am about to start the 5th in a minute, and all I can say is thank you GAF, I am sorry I almost doubted you :)

This show has a 24 quality to it, your hooked from the first episode.

I am gonna have to check that out, never heard about it, but Lost still rocks, so it's cool. And 1 disc a day? You have some willpower.

Nice avatar. I guess that officially makes you the second closest GAFer to me, besides my roommate of course!

The extra disc, according to the back of the case includes 56 minutes of footage in the following:

Lost Journeys
Flashbacks & Mythology
Lost: On Location

I have no clue if they are any good. I haven't watched them yet.

This show is awesome, I never watched it when it originally aired but I was able to see all the episodes a few months ago. I watched every episode in less than 2 weeks time and now I can't wait for the first episode of season 2. Should be great.

Watched the first two discs yesterday and will watch the next two today. Should finish the season by the weekend.

And again I must say, Claire >>>>>>> Kate.

The Journey was a recap episode of the main characters that aired in April. It's intent was to get everyone up to speed before the season finale. Kind of a nice thing to have.

Only halfway through the first season, but the way the
psychic was making on about Claire's baby...is it the Antichrist?

So, I just finished watching the last episode last night, I really with the next season was starting this week :( My god, I dont think there was a single episode I didnt like, and
I was totaly suprised when Boone died, sucks I liked him, he was cool
And jesus, why hasnt this been mentioned before? Kate>Shannon>>Claire, she may have started out as an idiot bitch, but she ended the season as less a bitch!!

When does season 2 start exactly?

Also is it just me, or is the DVD set lacking any kind of a season 2 teaser? I havent found it yet if there is one.

There is a small teaser, with some hints what'll happen in S2.

God I hate to agree with Manabyte on any matter, but Claire > Kate and all the other women combined. And the woman who plays Kate is from my city, and I love it when the hot Canadian women represent, but jesus god Claire is fucking nuts hot. One of the few actresses on this earth who make me feel shame like SolidSnakeX does (should?) every time he turns on MTV Japan.

For some reason Shannon suddenly started giving me a raging boner after the episode where
she starts having asthma attacks and they torture Sawyer
. True story.

ive owned the first season of lost since i was 9 years old

I never watched when it aired on TV and bought season 1 the other day after reading all the positive feedback about it but right now I'm in the middle of disc 3 and I just don't understand why this show is so popular. Does every freakin' episode have to feature a god damn flashback? Every episode feels the same.....it's just way too repetitive. And to make it even more painful, the characters aren't even that interesting to begin with so when they go into their backstory I'm having a hard time to even give a damn.

So far, Lost is pretty lame.

Welcome to the polarizing effect of Lost. While I love the flashbacks, I can see how some people simply do not. If you aren't into the characters, I can see how they would be a concern. That said, I really think that the backstories open up these characters and really allow for a strong build of each individual relationship.

Correct me if I'm wrong but are there three "bonus" discs floating out there that do not come with the box set?

1. The Best Buy one
2. The TV Guide one that came out a week or two ago
3. The one that comes with the book

Are these all pretty much the same ones with the same content?

I enjoyed the show, but mostly I agree with your comments. The writers were very deliberately filling each episode with flashback filler; it felt as if they were stalling for time while figuring out where to take the plot. "Whoa, this series is doing well?! Now we have to come up with something for these castaways to do for a second season!?!"

LOST is a good series to have on while you're making dinner or surfing the web. Watching the entire season on DVD would get boring between the highlight sequences.

I completely, 100% disagree with you. Didn't they start doing the flashbacks on the second episode?

The backgrounds are fasinating it being the first season I can see it working out that way, but if they are still doing that in the second season, it's going to drag a lot because it seems that actual events is really going at a snails pace. My favorite epsiodes is still the pilot one, so instense and msyterious, and awesomely paced.

Lost seemed like an awesome premise for a long mini-series as opposed to a continuing one.

Started in the Pilot thats for sure. Not sure how they actually broke it up on the DVD, but the flash backs are all over the pilot

Like Twin Peaks. Infact I bet that if they continue to stretch this fucker out and don't get out of this flashback template in the second season, Lost will suffer the same fate as Twin Peaks. The public will lose interest and the show will become a joke.

I hate to compare Lost to Twin Peaks 'cause I think TP is a much, much better show but they do share some similar weaknesses.
