Far and away the best DVDs I own. I saw the extended movie and felt like I'd got my money's worth, then watched the features on the other two discs a few weeks later and was amazed. I've only just started listening to the commentaries (only heard three out of eight so far) and they're bloody incredible. Peter Jackson is a good speaker, and the detail, thoughts and stories behind every single prop/location/costume/shot... whoa. I like the in-depth characterisation behind the dialogue given by Phillipa and Fran, and John Howe the concept artist is a really interesting guy too.
I don't know, most DVD commentaries I've tried to watch have awkward pauses all through it and the people sound like they don't really want to be there, but you get the feeling that Peter Jackson and co are so passionate that they could've done it with the movie going ten times slower and still be able to go non-stop.
