Lousy audio quality in PSP games...?

AlphaSnake

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
So here I am scrolling through the THUG 2 Remix soundtrack and I can't help but notice something is a little off. I could swear that I'm hearing faint ticking noises in the background. Maybe it was the PSP headphones? Nope. Unplugged them and you can just barely hear it through the speakers of the PSP. Plugged in the iPod headphones and it's still there. Plugged in my JVC studio headphones and it's still there.

Maybe it's just THUG2? Now I'm listening to the NFS: Rivals soundtrack and that sounds perfectly fine. Not only does it sound perfectly fine, but the audio quality itself is A LOT better, not to mention the songs are louder too. Big WTF-flag at Activision. THUG2's sound is pretty fucking bad, especially compared to Rivals.

Edit: And the hip-hop tracks in THUG2 are sorely missing bass -- again, unlike Rivals.

I think someone else mentioned something about the crackling sound quality in THUG 2 Remix...it's probably just that particular game. May have been BuddyC since he kept saying how it was a shoddy port :P

You're not alone. Someone else said the audio in THUG2:Remix is severely gimped. In other games it's fine.

So far, aside THUG2, all of the games sound fine. Rivals is definitely the best sounding though.

:x No way...the soundtrack makes sure of that. :)

Are you sure you're just not used to the various ambient noises in THUG 2? It sounds fine to me, although I did have the game glitch on me once and everything, including the voices, had a horrible crackling sound and became distorted.

NFSU Rivals soundtrack audio quality is *mint*. Same with Lumines and Ridge Racers. Those are the games I have so I can't say for anything else. They all sound like the best encoded MP3s sound on PSP. I'm listening to everything through EX71s, which expose even the slightest sound problems, btw.

I was the person talking about the cracks and pops in the soundtrack. I mentioned it to Buddy C and he said he has the same issue. Unfortunately it seems they were crunched for time and there are some audio glitches that got through.

Considering that I'm listening to the actual playlist from the options menu... :P

Maybe the audio in THUG2 is encoded in ATRAC?, but even if it was I don't that would have been the problem.

Unlikley - ATRAC is the minidisc compression format and doesn't have any of the issues he's describing. It has different issues. :)

Yeah I have the same problem with mine. Although I only really hear the tics in the spoken dialog section.
