LSAT: Anybody ever take 'em?

I'm planning on (probably) applying to a law school next year, so I have to take the LSAT and all that.

If anybody has ever taken the LSAT...

Have any recommendations on preparation for the test? Any particular books or anything worth checking out?

If anybody has ever been accepted to law school...

Where'd you end up going? What were your undergrad grades like? Anything else worth noting?

Thanks in advance!

my older sister took it and scored really well, but didn't go to law school (she got into a few though, but decided to go to grad school instead)...she said the best way to prepare is to take a lot of practice tests. her undergrad gpa was something like a 3.6 or so.

I am at Chicago-Kent now (2L) and did pretty well on the LSAT - 163. I originally applied to NW, Madison, U of I, U of Chicago, Loyola, Indiana Univ - Bloomington, Northern Illinois, Wash U, DePaul, as well as Kent. Undergrad GPA was 3.8 from my degree granting univ, but lower from some stuff I had done years earlier so averaged to a 2.8.

I would buy "Perfect 180" and "Logic Games Bible". They are the two best books. I would avoid any LSAT classes as I took Kaplan and quit after a few weeks since it doesn't tech you how to take the test, but how to make good guesses.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me anytime.

I took it in my last year of undergrad school, and got a 162, after only taking one practice test, so it can't really be that hard. If I'd actually put some effort into preparing I might have done a little better. I only applied to Temple and Dickinson, and since I got waitlisted at Dickinson (and I really didn't care to go to Dickinson anyway, as it's in the middle of nowhere, as opposed to Temple, which was in the middle of Philadelphia, and a scant one hour drive to my parent's house) I went to Temple. My undergrade grades were average, but I wasn't in a particularly grueling major.

I would recommend that you just buy "10 Real LSATs" and the books that Tortfeasor mentioned. You need to take a lot of practice tests and study the Logic games section if you want to improve your score.

Also, make sure that you are mentally prepared on test day. I got distracted when I actually went to take the test and got a 163, which was well below the scores that I was getting during practice. I decided not to take it again since a 163 is actually a pretty good score, and I can live with it.

My UGPA was about 3.3, but I majored in both Chemistry and English. I am currently hearing back from the law schools that I applied to. I got into University of Florida and American University. I was wait listed at Notre Dame and did not get into either George Washington or UCLA.

This was essentially the only prep I did:

I'm a 2L at NYU Law.

LSAT: 171

Undergrad grades: 3.8, English and finance degrees.

The test is pretty high stress for many people, I know. I actually had high blood sugar (I'm a type 1 diabetic) throughout and had to pee the entire time, which was annoying, but then again I wasn't that stressed out about it to begin with so maybe that fact got to me less than it otherwise would have. I didn't even take a full practice test before the real test, just sections, but I have a relatively unorthodox approach to studying which doesn't work for everyone; however I've heard good things from everyone who's taken Master the LSAT. If you are into paying thousands for test prep (which I know many are), I've heard Testmasters is good, but my friend didn't really like it that much when he took it and obviously I can't vouch for any of it. hth
