Yeah, because microsoft is retarded. And it's not psychonaughts, it's psychonauts.

Those Namco Museum sales are pretty surprising. I didn't think a game like that would do half a million on Xbox.

MechAssault did very good too. Last I remember it was at like 400k, now its at 715k. It would be interesting to see the monthly sales for it. It seems like that game has legs.

I find it strange, though, that just about every sequel outside of Halo and football, has done considerably worse, despite their respective games in almost every case being considerably better in quality.

Yeah I really think people are getting sick of constant sequeling on semi-popular games, even if significant improvements have been made (see RE4). It's a gamble everytime a company releases an all-new game yes, but a sequel to a game that sold quasi well is kinda suicide too.

However, if the game is really popular, they can sequel that bitch up till it runs dry.

Capcom seems to suffer from it more than just about anyone, too.

RE4, arguably (and pretty heavily in favor of) the best in the series, and the biggest improvements/change in the series' history, yet it has done worse than a remake of the original RE and RE0, a game still very much steeped in the archaic RE formula, and RE0 had very little hype, too. RE4 was being hyped as a game to save a system.

Onimusha 3, completely redone (and improved a hundred fold) control scheme, first game in the series in full 3d, complimented by one of the best 3d engines created this gen, probably the most amazing CG intro in all of videogames, a huge change of scenery/environment, etc. Sells considerably less than either of the previous two games.

Viewtiful Joe 2, while the original was not a huge hit, it was a modest success, with an impressive (by what a niche game would be considered) debut on the Cube, followed up the bomb of the PS2 release by bombing harder than both of the originals. It's sad that VJ2 can already be had for the same price as VJ1.

Of course, there are tons of other examples, but still, it's surprising to me, because I've always thought that the typical consumers prefer sequels, things they are familiar with and what not. Myself, I absolutely love new, original stuff, so I can't argue, but I do apprecate good sequels as well.

There are alot of things at work affecting those sales, I think above all else that from 200 through to 2002 the market wasn't quite oversaturated , much like soil after a month of rain the market eventually capped off with how many SKU's could be supported at once and well you see the effects right now, after 3 months anything less then the most popular title drops 50% or more in price.

Hell, Neo Contra which has only been out for 6 months or so is allready a 10 dollar CANADIAN clearance sale at EB games. 10 bucks.

Then you have the wonderful world of ads, a number of the games that are underpreforming didnt' have the same ad budget has previous versions and in some cases may have been too much too soon. Especially with DOA ultimate, while I bought a copy becuase I love the series, most xbox owners that cared bought the 30 dollar Platinum hit version of DOA3 and yet others purchased the Wank Fest known as DOAX, that game gave alot of DOA fans what they wanted all along and so many passed on Ultimate , ultimatly it only sold to the hardcore fans of the series that didn't need ads to convince them to buy it.

Hopefully next gen this situation wont' be quite as bad.. although I only see it getting worse. Sony , Nintendo and Microsoft need to take a really stiff approach to how many games get thrown out each month and how many games of each genre get created on the new systems. Take a tighter stance on console exlclusive content, so that maybe unless some form of exclusitivity is brought to the table that no one will certify the game .

I mean how many games do we really need , honestly ? Does anyone really need more then 1 GTA style game every year ? I don't think so, if they all got up to san andreas quality you'd take 6 months to finish it, and in those 6 months not buy any other games. If you were Joe Casual atleast. Sure we as the hardcore crowd waste our money aimlessly buying a game or 2 every month but if the industry changed and strained out any game that wasn't worthy of an 80% at game rankings we'd have no need to buy all that shit. Unless they made the shittier games 20 bucks...

Anyway thats enough ranting for now...

Worse than RE/RE0? What the hell are you talking about? It's already at half a million in the US alone. It hasn't even been out for half a year while REmake/RE0 had two years to garner their sales. Not to mention that Capcom USA killed a lot of Gamecube would be purchasers by announcing RE4 for PS2 before the game launched.

Viewtiful Joe 2 debuted too quickly after Viewtiful Joe. They should've released it Q2 of 2005. Hell, April had ZERO new Gamecube releases. Great time to release something.

So yeah, I agree that Capcom's sequels have sold considerably worse, but RE4 had a lot going against it. :P

part of the picture is how much longer the original games have been out compared to the sequels. Although i cant do it, comparing sales based on the amount of time they have been released would be more accurate. In some cases like splinter cell, it would still be lopsided in favor of the original. However SWKOTR 2 is ahead of its predecessor at this point in its life.

That is a pretty stupid statement.

After March NPD

RE 504,234 (5,719)
RE 0 448,034 (2,385)
RE 4 475,369 (52,717)

To say that Resident Evil 4 has done worse than the previous 2 installments is a joke. It will become the biggest selling Resident Evil on the GC before it has even been out for 5 months. By the end of the year it will be considerably higher than the other two. Considering how badly this could've turned out for Capcom it has turned out well.

Where are you getting that RE4 number? Last I saw it wasn't that high. Or maybe my memory is going.

C'mon baby, just abit more to the million mark.
I Loved the game,I'm glad its done well.

could´ve been so much more sadly..

loved the setting and much of the freedom..

the quests just plain sucked though, as well as the loading and bad framerate..

overall the game was way to simplistic though, just like Jade Empire

here´s hoping the sequel improves on what was good in Fable

Yes those RE4 numbers are that high just check out the latest NPD thread.

Honestly if that game was released instead of RE0 then it would be well over 1 million right now in the US alone. The game should get around 600,000-700,000 by the end of the year and it hasn't even been discounted yet.
