First lets get his out the way, CGI Micheal Douglas is freaky as hell.

Anyway when I heard Scott was going to be the focus and not Hank I was like

Hank is my second favorite superhero, and by far the one of the most complex. While superheroes usually deal with shit without, Pym's biggest foes have always been within. He was the first superhero to tackle suicide and mental illness seriously.

So i pleasantly surprised at how they handled Pym in the movie, that he was a driven man driven trying to atone for his past and help mankind. That and he isn't a killer but don't push him.

Scott and Hank are the same trying to get over their past to make a better future for their daughters, it was a nice symmetry.

The miniature scenes and the shrunk-fu fights were awesome as hell and shows they gave a lot of thought about what the power can do. And Pena stole every scene he was in, goddamn dude is funny. And the little girl that played Cassie has a acting stature beyond her age.

Yep I was in the same boat, was really worried Pym was gonna get sidelined just because Edgar Wright grew up on the Scott Lang stories.

They couldn't have handled it better, and I loved that they made both Scott and Cross mirror images of Pym in many ways. He isn't just handing off the suit to Scott in this, he informs a lot of the great character moments in the movie. He was my favorite part.

I hadn't thought about that, but you are right. Cross is Yellowjacket in more ways than one.

I thought it was pretty convincing tbh

That's how'll they keep Tony Stark around.

Just buy the rights to his corpse image already. Then you do one of those sci-fi thingies where you upload all his performances into a machine and extract new dialogue for it. Bulletproof plan if you ask me.

Movie was mediocre in every fashion in my opinion, hamfisted love interest, horribly trite dialogue, stereotypical token minorities and just an overall sterile feel to its comedy and themes.

The Douglas CGI made me think that at some point we'll see actors/actresses commonly use this past their prime even in Rom Coms and Dramas, it will become the standard to extend the shelf life of an aging actor. The public would have no idea they don't look like that any more unless they read tabloid magazines.

I just watched this for the first time last night. Enjoyed it even though it didn't have the number of jokes I was expecting. There were a few times I laughed but I think they were both during how they portrayed the different perspectives of the fight scenes.

I didn't like Falcon was the Avenger they chose to drop in. But you needed someone with tec... eh. Really a prototype Ultron would have been better than Falcon.

That's the biggest missed oppportunity, was not introducing the concept of Ultron with Pym there and AoU coming out a couple of months later. Just seemed like a missed opportunity to develope Ultron's backstory in the Marvel universe before he got his own movie, the forumla the use for all their Heroes but not their villians.

They didn't want the major villain of their big Avengers flick to have his origin set by some unknown character that's just gonna be a supporting role in a later movie so they switched it from Pym to Stark.

FYI Ant-Man came out after Ultron.

Maybe if the movie came out in Phase 1 like it was supposed to, they could have established Ultron properly as Pym's creation. But all the delays with Wright's production killed that opportunity.

When present day Hank Pym came on screen I remember thinking "Wait, when did Michael Douglas get so old?" because of that flashback scene.

I had that same exact reaction!
Also when did Peggy get so old :(

Saw the movie on Netflix couple of days ago, still like it a lot.
Mostly because of Paul Rudd, though the whole cast is great.

It still baffles me why they hid Peña from the trailers and marketing since he's the funniest character in the movie and gives the audience much needed pause between the superhero antic and personal drama.

Ant-Man is definitely my favorite of the MCU films thus far. I still would have liked to see Edgar Wright directing, but otherwise it's a blast.

I really loved the family-centered comedy vibe it had, together with the whole heist thing and awesome action. The balance between those elements was perfect. Regret that I didn't see it in cinema, actually.

In terms of quality, I think it is one of the most consistent MCU films, which is surprising given the history behind the making. But overall, I do think a lot of other MCU flicks have higher heights, making them more memorable. It is a midtier one for me, which is still good.

In terms of story, I do like that they retroactively (together with cap, agents Carter, agents of Shield) add to the history of MCU, making it clear powered people and superheroes have always been there in a way.
