LTTP: Chrono Trigger / So I finally beat Chrono Trigger today

Haha that was great.
There's also a whole official manga series which serves as a sequel to that OVA, and which features Kilwala, Nu, Spekkio, Johnny, Ozzie/Slash/Flea, Frog, Masamune, Gaspar, Lavos, etc.

But of course, as with most Chrono material, it was never translated in English.

So I am playing this for the first time as well and have a question. I am in Magus' castle and have defeated Slash, Flea, & Ozzie. At this point, I am assuming Magus is next. I would like to leave the castle to stock up on items. If I do this, will I have to re-fight all the enemies I have defeated when I return to the castle? Or will the castle be free for me to roam back to where I faced Ozzie?

The enemies will come back but not the bosses.

Nabbed off of the VC this weekend, managed to play for 12 hours straight yesterday and arrived in Zeal (I spent some hours grinding Nu's in the Hunting Range). Clocking in half a day practically nonstop on a game thats 16 years old is a huge nod and shout out to The Dream Team. I played it when it first released and the same nostalgic feelings come flooding back back during certain scenes. Chrono Trigger really has aged like fine wine and is still my favorite game of all time.

Really can't be enough love for this game. It's JRPG perfection, or as close as one can get to it.

Honestly though, unless you like the portability of it or have already played through it multiple times and would like to compare the new script (which improves in some areas but also takes a step or two backward), I would suggest skipping out on CTDS. The new "content" is laughably stupid, truly a spit in the face with the kind of gross laziness on display on the part of the devs. A contrived 4-hour long series of glorified fetch quests with no plot significance does not a dungeon make.

Every so often I'll start this up just to hear the music of the opening area.

do do do do, do do do do, do-do-do doo. do dooo. do dooo.

Bliss.

The portability piece is a pretty big selling point for folks, as well as getting all the anime cinematics if they skipped the PS1 version. The SNES/VC original still looks/sounds better (and is my preferred version to play), but for those who like their JRPGs on the go (without going the emulator route), it's a great companion piece.
