LTTP: College Dropout - Kanye West. Just what happened to him?!

I'm listening to College Dropout again, after feeling in the mood for some Kanye after the whole VMA fiasco and it's amazing how much he's changed since getting famous. Listening to the songs, especially like "We Don't Care", "Through the Wire" and "Spaceship" you get a VERY different image of Kanye than what he is today. It's a little disheartening knowing that fame turned him into the egotistical, arrogant, ass he is today. The lyrics and subject matter of his songs in Graduation and 808s & Heartbreak even coming to be (although that was always a pet project) further reflect this change in his personality

I agree, college dropout was my favorite album during my college years. Loved everything other than jesus walks.
Some people just can't handle fame, warps their brains and self image. I admit i'd probably get a little crazy/egotistical if I was rich and famous.

College Dropout- He hadn't made it
Everything after- He made it.

That changes your perspective on things and your outlook on life. For one im glad that is reflected in his music, rather than just going on pretending like other artists do (**cough**multi-million selling rappers who live in the suburbs still rapping about selling drugs**cough**)

"In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview. This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again."

Apparently Terry Moran is a reporter for ABC.

Obama says shame!

Shoulda stuck behind the production tables. He was much better suited there. Great producer, terrible terrible MC

I actually like the guy. He's an egomaniac, but at least he's amusing and isn't afraid to pull crazy, stupid shit for everyone's amusement. And he doesn't feel the need to incessantly declare himself the greatest of all time, although that time may come.

and that Taylor Swift shit is so overblown, it's not even funny anymore.

You know, I always wondered if I could even act humble if I ever "made it" so to speak. It's one thing to be humble when everyone is singing your praises or you've just had everything handed to you, it's another thing entirely when no one believes you can do it or that you'll never make it. I'd probably rub it in as many faces as I could.

Yeah I think about that a lot. I'm kind of a dick sometimes, not in an aggressive treat people like crap way. But I have a big mouth, and sometimes I just don't care if what i'm saying or doing is pissing someone else off. I have a feeling if I was given fame and fortune i'd be drunk at some awards show being a jackass with my self confidence overflowing or on some talk show saying things I know will piss off certain people.

How exactly does a guy stay humble on the mic? Instead of "I'm the greatest ever," say something like "I'm top 200 all time possibly 150?"

ew

I mean do you really have to rap about how good you are? I guess eventually, considering you're no longer struggling to make it but I'm sure there's tons of other things to talk about. Look at Lupe, he raps about unconventional things and the closest he's come to a "self hype" song is Superstar and not really...

I agree, but self braggadocio has always been apart of jay's style, so it's not surprising a ton of younger rappers who looked up to him (kanye, wayne, etc) seem to do the same shit

How about letting his music speak for him? If he's that good the audience will see it in his work, there's no reason for him to call himself the greatest.

Lupe brags a shitload, he just does it in a different way, saying how smart he is, how complicated his lyrics are, and shit like that.

Complaining about arrogance in rap is pretty absurd imo. You couldn't possibly enjoy any major artist then.

There is a difference between bragging in rap and talking like the second coming in every interview you do. Hip Hop has a long history of bragging in rhyme. It's expected and can be quite entertaining if done with skill.

Thats not the kind of music Kanye and most of his peers are making. Its about bragging and how cleverly you can do it in your lyrics.

Pretty much.
