I never played any of the Dead Rising games when they first came out. I recall picking up the first a few years ago on a steam sale to try out, and found it obtuse/aged poorly so I didn't play much.

Then the remaster hit, and I impulse bought it only to play a few hours on release, find it obtuse and shallow, then leave it be until earlier this week.

This week where I stayed up until 2AM twice having lost track of time because I was absorbed by this game. And telling myself how wrong I was and that this is some of Capcoms and gaming as a wholes best offering. Oddly enough playing Lolipop chainsaw repop for about 2 hours, finding it meh, made me think "oh I still have Dead Rising, that's probably a better bet for a zombie fix game." Thanks Suda51.

It's a game that surprises you in a lot of ways and truly benefits from the fresh coat of paint. If these games were given a resident evil budget for visuals in a future game? Oh mama!

The good:
-Sense of tension
-Difficult in the right way initially
-Focuses on fun front and center
-Lots to learn and master from combat, to map design, to routing, etc
-Plenty of transmog fashion fun
-Remaster looks great
-DEM TIDDIES
-Unique melee system
-Some super cool and fun bosses
-Funny moments but also a solid overs story line. Slightly trope yes but I like the message.
-Frank West is cool

The bad:
-Just the shooting portion of combat. Felt like bullets got stuck on environment instead of being precise shots.

I'd give the game a 9/10. It didn't overstay its welcome, and made me miss silly/fun games being available. The industry has ditched these kinds of action games almost entirely.

Also, should I play the other DR games? Or be patient and hope Capcom remasters DR2 first at least?

Why DR1 original? Also, no DR4?

Because it's the most 'challenging' and 'authentic' DR formula game as possible if you jump in from the remaster. You're literally mastering time management and having to understand and respect the mall in itself with all its characters and strategy of the environment.

Consider DRDR as 'casual' where the original is 'hardcore' in the old school sense of pure gameplay.

I thought this game downplayed the sexuality compared to the original?

Not sure. I didn't feel cheated and don't have the original to compare it to thankfully.

Plus there's a death animation where a zombie and the dead character 69 and it eats the characters penis while you get a mouthful of zombie snatch.

I'll stick with the original.

I have it on PS4.

I was going to buy it for the RE ENGINE, but censorship. I don't even want to buy it.
So I just looked into this :

* You can no longer score points for taking photos of the breasts or crotch region of female characters

* Cliff will no longer call Frank a vietcong/communist, instead using the term 'mole' and 'animal'

* Some of the fishnets were covered up

———

You're right. I've been had. I've played a completely subpar product and the worst version of the game. How can anyone play this!? Fuck I'm such a fool!!!!

Censorship, lots of missing details/attention to detail, missing effects even compared to the wii version, AI slop textures, difficulty downgraded to baby level

Nice that you enjoyed it, but it's

Not Funny Trash GIF

compared to the OG

Dead Rising is peak gaming. The remaster is not as good as the original in my opinion but it's certainly more accessible and easy to recommend if you don't have the original for reference. You owe it to yourself to check out the others

Stick to the original and stay away from the Dead Rising titles made in Canada.
Nah, the original may be the best but 2/OTR is an excellent game in its own right. 3 really isn't that bad either, it just doesn't have all the same magic. 4 is the only true dud, and a colossal one at that

Nice breakdown..This game been in my radar for a while….60fps has been included I'd imagine?

So my question is why is the original a more difficult game?

On top of that did the sequel retain that level of difficulty? If so, wouldn't it be a natural progression for me to play DR2 and get a more "intense" experience?

Others are saying DR2 is doo doo in here.

I'm confused.

I only played the original and not the remaster but it was fairly challenging until getting a hang of it. The first time through time management was not on my side and I had no idea where to go. Over time I learned to skateboard in open areas, use shortcuts, and incapacitate undead with an arsenal of blades and chainsaws boosted by magazine bonuses. I also learned when it is best to load up on guns. Once Frank levels up enough he can do without the weapons and just rip everyone's guts out or do flying roundhouses and other tricks. The more you play the game the easier it gets.

Dead Rising 2 is great in its own way but there is a brutish sluggishness to movement/combat (unless you equip DLC items) and anything you can pick up is easily outshined by combination weapons created at workbenches. The drink mixing (beer+wine) is essential to get Chuck to speed along akin to DR's skateboards. To get the blueprints for most combo weapons you unfortunately have to level up Chuck which is a hassle though some powerful ones can be found. The story is more engaging, the location is practically Vegas, and the bosses are more colorful and difficult though zombies are dumber. If playing on Xbox I recommend Case Zero but not Case West standalone story DLC.

Dead Rising 3 is almost a different game due to how everything is more open world, saving most survivors is just an experience boost (though several dozen can be recruited), and time limits are almost an afterthought. The bosses having deadly sins themes is dope and the open world is amazingly detailed with unforgettable interiors. Despite Nick coming off as a limp dick cuck the customization and combat design are amazing. Be aware that half the time you will be driving killing machines into zombie hordes and crafting weapons/drinks on the run as you absolutely obliterate crowds of the undead. This game is to the original as Return of the Living Dead is to the Dawn of the Dead.

P.S. Dead Rising 2 is the weakest of this trilogy but worth playing if you liked the first.

P.S.S. If you play Dead Rising 3 make sure to do DLC stories first as they overwrite your collected blueprints in the main game otherwise.
