So after watching this movie off of a blind purchase and doing some research about it online I was pretty surprised I had never heard of it. This film caught a lot of buzz because it was shot guerrilla style at Disney in Orlando and in Cali. The film is entirely shot in black & white which I think definitely gives it a nice ambience. I'm really a sucker for older movies shot in this type of style. Films like Rosemary's baby, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and even more recent films like Lords of Salem or House of The Devil are some of my favorites. Also as a kid I visited the parks a lot so it was interesting seeing the park shot in this perspective.
So a quick rundown for those unfamiliar with the film...
IMDB said:An epic battle begins when a middle-aged American husband and father of two learns that he has lost his job. Keeping the news from his nagging wife and wound-up children, he packs up the family and embarks on a full day of park hopping amid enchanted castles and fairytale princesses. Soon, the manufactured mirth of the fantasy land around him begins to haunt his subconscious. An idyllic family vacation quickly unravels into a surrealist nightmare of paranoid visions, bizarre encounters, and an obsessive pursuit of a pair of sexy teenage Parisians. Chillingly shot in black and white, Escape From Tomorrow dissects the mythology of artificial perfection while subversively attacking our culture's obsession with mass entertainment.
I'm really surprised that there isn't much love for this movie. Now that the shock & talk of how it was filmed has worn off I hope people can actually give it a non biased watch. It's not for everyone and may take you a day or two to chew on. I think it is definitely a LOVE/HATE film. I am also curious to hear different gaffer's interpretations of it....
