Watched the first season on Netflix and absolutely loved it

2 episodes in to season 2 and I am not liking what I am seeing, the show seems to be going with cheap hollywood high drama and dark secret crap
experimental stem cell operation talk, hiding a dead body

Does this show keep to it's roots or does it transform into what I am fearing where they are chasing new viewers with 90210 like drama?

Texas forever.

Stick with it. Season 2 was the weak point. I believe a lot of its poor writing in that season was due to the writers strike.

Season two is pretty terrible. Stick with it, Seasons 3 and 4 have some of the finest television ever. There's an arc in S4 that literally had me crying, it was so heartwrenching.

Dont worry, it regains its footing towards the end of Season 2 and gets back to being fantastic in the last three seasons.

I love the show. Season two is kinda weak, but it picks up afterwards. And it is one of the few shows with a great season finale.

If you're talking about
"The Son," where Matt buries his father
, that may be the only episode of any television show that had me bawling. Should've won the Emmy that year.

Just power through season 2 cause once you do it gets a lot better. I have no idea what they were thinking during that season.

Season 2 is the absolute lowpoint of the series. Every FNL viewer wants to rip their eyes out while watching it. Stick with it. The season is shortened by the Writer's Strike, and the show comes back swinging with season 3.

Loved the show. I can't remember all the seasons well enough to rate them. Perhaps that means its time for a rewatch.

It's in the conversation with The Wire for best show of all time. Season 2 definitely has a rocky start but it gets better in the 2nd half but then it doesn't falter again. Season 5 is maybe the apex of television.

Best episode of any television show ever. I can't hear the song 'Driveway' without tearing up a bit

I don't know man, Season 5 of the Shield is pretty great TV also.

As everyone has said, Season 2 really is the low point for the show, but 3, 4, and 5 more than make up for it. Plus an amazing series finale.

I totally forgot about this show. I saw season 4 live so I never got around to watching the fifth and final season, thanks for reminding me.

I remember season 2 sucking ass for the most part, I think it's when they share the locker room/field with a rival school that it gets good again.

Season 3 and 4 I remember enjoying the hell out of. I might have liked 3 the best (can't remember), but 4 was really great because of
the new coaching opportunity making the season really interesting and challenging Coach, the best character in the show, due to the lack of budget, the bad players, etc.

Aye, when they bring selective memory loss to the market this'll be right up there on my list along with the west wing and the wire, so I can enjoy it all over again.

Well finished the season, this definately lived up to the hype and was the first show in at least 5 years that my wife and I actually watched together.

This is from a hockey loving canuck that does not actually watch football ; )

The only character I could not stand was Julie Taylor and wish they had not wasted so much time with her story arc in season 5.

<3 Tim Riggins

It's worth watching it all definitely, but the latter focus on
Vince and hardly any Tim Riggins in the final season knocked the show down a few levels.

Best non-cop drama! Love it. Such an awesome show. I cried in Season 2 during the
bathroom
scene and that episode in Season 4.

One of my top 3 tv shows of all time.
All of the seasons are really good, even though S2 is abit weaker it still has alot of great moments i thought.

I'm thinking i'll do my first rewatch soon.

Wait, did you finish the whole show or season?

The absolute best pilot of any television show ever. It blew me away. Season 2 was quite poor (the Landry plot is horrendously bad) but after that it picks up and rules again.

This show is magical. Some really incredible moments with some fantastic characters and it probably has my favorite series finale of any show.

I just finished watching this show today. It was really enjoyable throughout, S2 was weak but decent enough. The ending was good, very satisfying.

In the end I got a little bit sick of the Taylor's though, especially Julie. It's a good show but I'm not sure it's a GREAT show. 8/10 for me.

cant remember the finale. Someone refresh me!
Tammy and Coach move to Phil where she takes on the job as the dean of admissions. Panthers and Lions unite into super team. Julie + Matt are together and engaged (or do they get married?). Tim starts to build a house on his plot of land. Luke joins the army, I thought this was very random.

This show was supposed to be for my morning workouts on my recumbant bike. Did not expect to become addicted and watch the entire series in a week.

anyone have another good Netflix TV series recommendation?

Watched the pilot on a whim a week ago and blew through season 1 over a short vacation. So good. So fucking good.

Just watched episode 1 of s2 and I'm definitely getting the same vibe as the OP, though. It's almost like a different show. Glad to hear it recovers.

I just finished up the series finale a few minutes ago. Thank god netflix had this on streaming because this was one of my favorite shows of all time. For the past 3 weeks, I spent pretty much ever minute that I had free, watching it. I think the first and fourth seasons were definitely the best, because they focused on the growth that all of the characters were making. Season four especially might have been my favorite because of all the challenges that coach taylor was going through, and that game against the panthers that season was riveting! Oh and I cannot stand the mccoy's!

If you haven't watched Battlestar Gallactica yet, I suggest that. It's easily in my top 5 favorite TV shows of all time, including West Wing, The Wire, Chuck, Scrubs, and FNL. Okay... maybe top 6. :)

Dammit, you guys, now i'm considering a series re-watch. I played at one of those small town high schools where football was life, and man, this show is just amazing. maybe i'll get my roomie into it.

Has anyone heard anything on Friday Night Lights being released on Bluray? I want to buy the complete series but I just can't buy DVDs anymore.

This is one of my favorite shows. Love most of the characters, and it sucks that Riggin's acting career is going down the drain.

Loved this show but it took a wrong turn with the whole murder cover up and never fully regained the magic of the first season.
Yeah first season is the best by a mile. Really, does anyone care that much about the characters they introduced in the rest of the show? The whole remaining run is sustained by not wanting to leave behind the characters and place established in S1. Still totally worth it though.

I don't know what this means? They leave behind as many of the cast from season 1 as any network drama could reasonably be expected to.

I really came around to liking all of the characters introduced in Season 4 (the main ones). Vince especially.
