LTTP: GBASP+ Appreciation Thread

So I just found my SP+ and put in LTTP, brought back some memories. So many fantastic freaking games on this monster. The clamshell design was pure genius and when they added the backlight, shwwwwwwing! Pure nerd porn!

Your memories/good times/appreciation/ for GBA SP?

i love mine. the screen looks great. i prefer my micro for traveling, but definitely use my SP+ at home

second best way to play gameboy/gbc games (first being the gameboy player on gamecube)

Loved the backlight (finally no more bullshit glare) and the clamshell to protect the screen. The controls on that thing cramped my hands up pretty bad during sessions lasting longer than 30 minutes. The DS Lite trumps the SP in almost every way nowadays, but the SP was awesome back in the day.

I got mine on a black Friday at Circuit City for $50 and love it. Unfortunately there's one stuck pixel that makes me a sad panda. Fortunately it only shows against specific colors and isn't really noticeable except on static screens.

I can't stand the B/A button set up for GBA games on the DS. Not being able to toggle to a Y/B configuration drives me nuts.

The only reason to have one is for GB/GBC games or if you simply don't have a DS Lite.

Search for one of these things on eBay and prepare to D: at the prices people think they're worth.

I wish I grabbed one when they came out. I don't really like playing GBA games on the DSLite, and while the GB Micro is super sexy, it's really not the most comfortable handheld in the west.

Best way to play GB/GBC carts (except maybe GB Player.)

For anyone looking for one, the box says "With a new brighter screen" and the screen is pretty much black when powered off (OP pic is actually the original SP.)

I got mine when they first came out. Days later I bought a GBm, and a couple days after that, I bought my first GB Pocket for like $5. 3 GBs in a week was a proud occasion for me :'(

Feature wise (backlit screen with adjustable brightness, rechargeable lithium ion battery), the SP was everything the launch Advance should've had. But I loved the design of the original Advance as it feels more like a regular controller, and I just did not like the clamshell design of the SP, especially for action games or platforming games, my hands always felt cramped and uncomfortable...

i'm just wondering how they went from such a beautiful design with the SP to the first DS design. wonder what they were thinking.

Bah, that nothing, real men play Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble with the Gameboy Player. I for one am a real man:

Yeah, but at least with a Gameboy Player, you can turn it the right way so the direction you tilt lines up with the way you move on screen. With a GBASP, you HAVE to tilt in the opposite direction. Still, I agree though. I probably would try that too if I had a Gameboy Player. It's too bad they don't work with the Wii...

My hands cramped like crazy playing F-Zero on the original GBA, but the SP felt more like the GB/GBC in form. I loved the change initially, but once I felt the GBm's form factor, d-pad, and face buttons, nothing else feels as comfortable to me. Granted I have pretty small hands for a guy.
