Originally released in 1997 on the Nintendo 64 and now in 2025 on the Xbox Series X it feels just as fresh.

In 1997 I imagine it was pretty cool to have been playing Goldeneye 007 just after the release of the movie.

Each level has pockets of enemies dressed as navy officers, or arctic commandos and its whole thing is following the movies plot to a T from things like infiltrating a Soviet chemical weapons facility with 006 or Bond rescuing Natalya and pursuing Ourumov through the city in a tank, all these major plot points from the movie are in the game and I respect that.

An entire generation grew up playing the 4 player split screen multiplayer.
I was real big on Goldeneye's multiplayer growing up, this multiplayer offered endless amounts of fun.

I got my original game from the 90s, with the missions completed, and cheat codes there's people who still have it boxed or graded.

The Wii version I liked its approach, and is just as fun. Someone compared it to COD, others were dismissive of it but I think the online made it popular. The marketing for that Wii version was funny.

One of the best reviewed games of all time.

I think you can defend the developer Rare as having one of the best runs of releases of all time, yeah I thought Banjo was interesting, Perfect Dark is still fun, things haven't worked out well for Rare since.

If we're talking about the grand scope of goldeneye you also have to mention the goldeneye source game. I have played that and found it just as fun.

Overall I think I covered all the bases with this LTTP and only need some cool comments, I remember playing as Baron Samedi with DK mode and speed cheat turned on and going 200 mph around classic maps like Complex when I was young. What did GAF think of Goldeneye and how many are hyped for the new IOI 007 game?

With my friends bakc in the day, playing 4 player deathmatch with power weapons or 2v2 mines in facility was a ritual we did every afternoon. such an awesome game. Always no radar.

Fantastic game.

1.2 Solitare FTW

Huh? It's just nostalgia talking. Sea of Thieves is one of the best games of the last ten years and certainly more fun to play now than most of their old stuff. Also, they made tons of money with it.

Loved Goldeneye but eventually ended up preferring the world is not enough for single player and nightfire for multiplayer.

No interest in the new bond game since young bond doesn't interest me and the rest of the cast is exactly what you would expect from modern day game devs.

I still think something is up with Goldeneye!

The Xbox version for new controls and enhanced visuals. No online.

Switch got N64 everything with online.

I suspect there is some ultimate version coming to everything on Switch 2/Xbox

I loved this back in the day. One of my most played n64 games ❤️

It looks so rough today, but back then. It was cutting edge and the multi player. Chefs kiss 😎

I could talk about the controls (2 joypads at once for the win, till you got tired 😂), cheats, crazy characters

It really was the real deal 😁

Haven't tried the remaster, maybe one day 👍

I know that to be a controller configuration. Is that two controllers using two thumb sticks? If so, that config was so good it kind of broke single player.

Probably the greatest Bond game ever made, an N64 exclusive for more than 20 years, at the time you could more than show it off to the Playstation 1 fanbase and Saturn fanbase, knowing if the game ever released on those platforms it wouldn't have looked half as good as it did (back in 1997)

GE64 and PD64… I spent thousends of hours with these games! I was addicted to them. Still have them here and waiting for the Analogue 64 to play them again.

Man, I miss the N64 Rare so much

I remember picking this game up from my local retailer, telling my younger brother (who is a massive Bond fan) that I just picked up Goldeneye on N64, and seeing Bond in silhouette with the Bond theme was amazing! Then playing the game was a game changer. There will never be another like it.

Seems like it should have released on the ps1 why wasn't it?

1.2 Solitare enabled the C buttons to work as foward, backward, strafe left and right, and the stick was just used to aiming. the down side for some, that aiming in that config was inverted. up is down and down is up.

I'd like that analogue 64 just for Goldeneye, for people who don't know the analogue is sold out

Did that remaster project ever release on Xbox?
No, it got squashed by console politics so the only version we can play officially is this emulated N64 one.

But the ROM was leaked a few years ago and it can be played on PC via an Xbox 360 emulator. It's the best version of the game.

The EA Bond games (WINE, Nightfire, Rogue Agent) from the early 2000s on late N64 and PS2 pass the test for good games, I don't think they're as memorable as goldeneye though.
