Originally released in 1997 on the Nintendo 64 and now in 2025 on the Xbox Series X it feels just as fresh.
In 1997 I imagine it was pretty cool to have been playing Goldeneye 007 just after the release of the movie.

Each level has pockets of enemies dressed as navy officers, or arctic commandos and its whole thing is following the movies plot to a T from things like infiltrating a Soviet chemical weapons facility with 006 or Bond rescuing Natalya and pursuing Ourumov through the city in a tank, all these major plot points from the movie are in the game and I respect that.

An entire generation grew up playing the 4 player split screen multiplayer.
I was real big on Goldeneye's multiplayer growing up, this multiplayer offered endless amounts of fun.

I got my original game from the 90s, with the missions completed, and cheat codes there's people who still have it boxed or graded.
The Wii version I liked its approach, and is just as fun. Someone compared it to COD, others were dismissive of it but I think the online made it popular. The marketing for that Wii version was funny.

One of the best reviewed games of all time.

I think you can defend the developer Rare as having one of the best runs of releases of all time, yeah I thought Banjo was interesting, Perfect Dark is still fun, things haven't worked out well for Rare since.

If we're talking about the grand scope of goldeneye you also have to mention the goldeneye source game. I have played that and found it just as fun.
Overall I think I covered all the bases with this LTTP and only need some cool comments, I remember playing as Baron Samedi with DK mode and speed cheat turned on and going 200 mph around classic maps like Complex when I was young. What did GAF think of Goldeneye and how many are hyped for the new IOI 007 game?
