I just literally finished watching it and it was a blast. I would have to say it is the funniest anime from Studio Ghibli for me. Google tells me a sequel is being made? Awesome if true. I'm bummed that there was no explanation for why Porco was a pig.

Been years since I last watched it, but I have my mates copy of it here, so will be watching it sometime over the next few days.

Porco Rosso is amazing, a very underrated movie. I think the reason why he turned into a pig is open to interpretation, I don't think a solid explanation is needed IMO.

As for a sequel, that was just a rumor based on a mistranslated news story.

I watched it a few days ago, too. I wasn't sure what to make of it. Although it was cohesive, I wasn't as impressed or mesmerized as I am by other Ghibli films.
Actually, the scene with the rising planes was pretty good.

I don't see a need for a sequel.

I think the exact nature of the curse is never fully revealed. And that's one of things I like about the film, actually. It's got an epic feel I only experienced watching Star Wars or reading the Corto Maltese comics. The sense that the character's story is bigger than the tale, and that we only get to see the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.

One of my all-time favorites.

He said something about only thinking of himself during that dogfight where he lost all of his crew.

My favourite as well. The whole thing is just such a charming, romantic adventure. I think it was the Adriatic locale and the gorgeous aircraft designs that did it for me.

Most entertaining movie Miyazaki has ever made and it only gets better with repeated viewings.

There won't be a sequel, it was just a mistranslation. Miyazaki's working on a new original movie though.

Ok. I just seem to remember the movie implying that he was cursed because he betrayed some former lover. Haven't seen it in a few years, so I should really watch it again.

Was it implied that Rosso turned back into a man after he was kissed by Feel? Curtis was shocked and asked to see his face at the end.

Yeah, it was implied that he turned human again

It was implied but ultimately the movie let the viewer to decide whether it happened or not.

Same here. Nice movie but certainly not the most gripping Ghibli film. For me.
