On a mildly related topic, is there any chance that Lumines is going to be ported to the PS2 or anything? It looks pretty good, but I'm just not into portable gaming.

No, based on what Miz has said in various interviews.

why not? its not like you have to travel all the time to play a portable. I never travel but love my portables to death. I usually play on the can or in bed at night. Dont dismiss something just because it doesnt hook up to a TV.

And back on topic, I agree that its good they arent hiding the fact its a clone(ugly at that) and giving it free.

In reality though, can someone explain what exactly is so magical about this game? (I have never played it and am curious.)

Well, it's the only puzzle game that I would call an "experience". When you really start to "get it" (which can take some time), the music/visuals combined with the gameplay (which is awesome) really create something that you just fall into.

Bascially, the combination of cool puzzle gameplay and great music merge together into a great experience. IMO, it's not the end all of puzzle games, but it's the game I play most on my PSP.

I think it wouldn't really work as well on a console. Something about wearing headphones and having the psp right in front of you makes it more immersive.
