Wow. That was pretty good. I liked the writing a lot more in this episode. It was more interesting, better paced, and less "wild" in general. The more serious and adult take on the Lupinverse is definitely interesting to watch, and the art is really impressive. If the first two episodes are any indication, it at least suggests that every episode in the series will be very different, and there is no specific restrictions or formulas to the self contained stories.

Can't wait for Goemon to show up next week. :D

As someone who has never watched Lupin III, is this season worthy of being watched? How good would you rate it now out of 10?

There's very little action, however, but I'm not really an action guy so whatever to that. To all the worries about Fujiko's mystery though, I don't think that's gonna be an issue until much later based on the way they're going about it. The hideous shadows are more hideous than ever this episode though.

Nothing beats this, nothing I say. The shadows were so much better in this episode, and I love how they're integrated into the visual style now. Amazing storyboarding and shot composition made up for the lesser animation as well.

As for this season? Can't say yet. It's a series that will probably be best to judge by the end of it, and I don't know exactly how episodic this series is going to be anyway. If you want a more-accessible way to get into Lupin, try Miyazaki's Castle of Cagliostro. Not the kind of Lupin you'd get here in this series—this Lupin is more like early Green Jacket Lupin from around '71—but CoC is exceptionally well-directed and produced, and it's the easiest production to acquire. From there, I'd say the franchise is fairly open. Watch some of the various episodes across the three main TV series, watch some OVAs/films/TV specials, and don't forget to try this new series. It's damn good at the moment.

Most people have only seen very little of Lupin stuff. The show is pretty stand alone so you could watch it without any problems.
 
Looks like this will be competing with Kids on the Slope, Mysterious Girlfriend X, and Space Bros. for king-anime of Spring 2012. And I'm quite excited by Goemon's upcoming episode, so I might just be getting into anime again.

This is the season of Watanabe (Shinichiro as director of Kids on the Slope and music producer of Lupin; Ayumu as the director of MGX and Space Bros.).

Wow, yet another excellent episode of Koikelupin! I felt this was a much better episode mostly due to the more character driven story compared to what we got for the first one. Visually, I found the shading to be much less of an issue plus the OP and ED were notably more detailed. Hopefully this show continues to blow away my expectations on a weekly basis as I can easily see this being the show of the season, if not the whole year.

Not even Okada can ruin this now!

Whoa now. We don't know how far she's gonna take this Oscar character. It still could go downhill!

However, outside of the overabundance of skin, I think is nearly everything I could ask for from a Lupin series. Well, except maybe the whole "not ending" thing.
And not in a "normal crappy inconclusive anime series ending" sorta way, but a "keep making episodes plskthz" sorta way.
 
Hmmm... Ep5's title is "Blood soaked triangle". Someone go buy a copy of Animage or Animedia and get me the missing synopsis and credits for ep5 kthx. :P

That's how it should be. Characters are meant to be reinterpreted from time to time. Canon is just a constraint on storytelling.

For sure. Just seems more people in this thread are watching it than posters who understand Japanese. Was wondering if the animation is such a draw for some people as to do that.

I understand 3/4th's or so from years of watching anime and J-Drama's. Any slang or heavy accents and I'm boned though.

Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine 2

The direction is bold as ever. As others have stated, I didn't find a scene that made me double glance due to misused shadow placement (not saying there weren't any for sure, but nothing that disturbed my viewing).

Heck, I enjoyed the use of it where
Jigen is laid on the couch that sits on chess colored floors, a nice cross reference with his past as when he played with his old boss. Shadow sketch surrounds him from both sides.

The eyecatches are cool as ever, enjoyed this episode overall and of, course, as usual,

Jigen is always a damn beast.
 
2nd episode was pretty cool, had a nice feel. The ending was pretty typical though.

Edit: Am I the only one that would like to hear a new version of the Lupin theme at some point in this show?
 
Another great episode this week. The narrative for this episode was more interesting than the previous episode, although there was less impressive animation. There much fewer instances of misuse of that shadow filter this week, or perhaps it's growing on me so I didn't notice. This scene was one of my favorites this week:

After rewatching the episode with subs I have to say that
they're definitely going into Fujiko's past; no way in hell they won't after her final conversation with Jigen.
 
Episode 2 was really good and classy, the noir fan in me really loved the neo-noir aesthetics going on here, in fact the whole thing was very NOIR from the use of shadows, the writing, the music etc.

At this point the show can do no wrong, can't wait for next week!
 
Fujikoike 2

A lot better than the first episode in many ways, the art for this is so rich and beautiful, and a lot of care has gone into the camera angles and framing. The faces are also very expressive, which unfortunately a lot of anime lack. You can really hear the age in Jigen's voice at times, though. :(

The new ED is a lot better than the previous one as well.
 
What's up with the downgrade on the animation quality this episode? It looked very stiff, if still alluring because of the outstanding art.
 
I hate to use the word adult as a description of ep 2 because it comes off as high and mighty perhaps? It was a lot of crazy meets stone hard truth with some sexiness. I just...man I just want more.
 
Episode 2 was great, the shift in tone was neat. I hope we see Jigen with Lupin soon, that combo is so good. Weird to see Fujiko sidelined so much, but I guess that's her job as a seductress.
 
Is it pronounced "Lupin" or "Lupan". I've never really watched the show, but everyone knows the theme song, and I've always remembered it sounding like "Lupan, The Third!"

Welllllll that depends.

Americanized: "LOO-pin," used in previous Funimation and Streamline dubs
Based on Japanese: "Loo-PAWN" (often "LOO-pawn" in English dubs) (I'm using the US/Canadian pronunciation of "pawn" in this example: http://www.forvo.com/word/pawn/)
Based on original French: "Loo-PAN," "Loo-PAWN" (or "Loo-PAN," depending on how you read it) with sort of a nasally, cutoff, not-quite-fully-pronounced "n" sound. (For a more precise example: http://youtu.be/peRvKm_0KQw?t=3m19s)

I choose to go with the "based on Japanese" version ("Loo-PAWN"), myself.

*There was also Plot of the Fuma Clan's dub, which used "ROO-pawn," but that was a special, oddball case.

I've noticed it in the limited Japanese Lupin I've seen (Mostly, shouted by Zenigata). Is is "Loo-PAWN" anywhere? I swore I heard it pronounced that way in an episode or two before I started saying it that way.
 
Uh... I have heard the odd line in the Japanese say "pan," but it's definitely a long "a" sound ("Roo-PAWN-SAWN-say"), not a short "a." Since when does the Japanese language have short "a" sounds like in the word "pan" anyway?

e: Charlie Kosei sometimes sings "Loo-PAN": "Loo-PAN...he's a nice man..."
