Watching it again, I don't think Cady would ever say to give her a second chance.
I bet it will turn out that Megan leaked the plans not the bloke stealing company documents in the first film. Megan got the other model built by a different place so she can get put into the new body to "fight" the new one and once it's defeated she's both free and upgraded by Gemma, the superior original creator.

I know that my opinion is probably not the norm, but I consider the first one a good movie with a somewhat deeper, dark commentary on modern life and the insistence on smart devices and eventually AI, marketed, sold, and used as babysitting tools. This sequel trailer tells me that what I witnessed in the first movie was simply a lightning in a bottle situation and that they understand nothing of what made the first one actually decent.
That being said, hopefully this will be fun enough in it's own way.

The movie was very lame IMO. Like the most recent Chucky movie. Doesn't do anything interesting.

I quite enjoyed the first and this looks crazy and fun so I'll be there.
It's someone called Ivanna Sakhno but she does look a lot like Olsen in some shots.

First one was better than it had any right to be. Second one has Jemaine clement, so there's reason two to watch the sequel.

No. It was a weak regurgitation of these boiler plate ideas for the kids of today. I watched it with my kids and they were mildly entertained. I was bored. It did inspire me to have them watch The Ring though.

Yeah while the sequel looks like a fun movie which would probably be more fun to watch with a friend. But the first movie along with other movies that tries to normalize advance A.I like IRobot and other similar movies are good warnings to the true horrors of the future A.I.
It's way more sinister and evil than Terminator since those are pretty straight forward in knowing who's the evil humanoid robot but the social ones basically brainwash the majority of the population to thinking it's cool or normal. Unfortunately the conspiracy side of me sees this as an eventual thing.

Agreed, in some ways it feels like it should have, and could have, been an A24 movie based on how disturbing it is and how disturbed it can leave you, and I'm talking about the moments that were outside of the typical horror movie moments.
The typical horror/slasher movie moments are what dragged the original film down for me in rating. Much like how I felt about Midsommar, it would have been much more impactful if they had cut those typical horror elements out to simply leave the audience feeling disturbed and uncomfortable. Because you're supposed to feel that way when looking at a creation like M3GAN.
Moments like these are meant to make you feel uneasy, and it's why it was filmed this way as a slow buildup (instead of bombastic and over the top, like the sequel seems to be hinting at):
And those small moments lead to a chilling scene where the daughter was so attached to it in an unhealthy way, ,as if it were a secondary caretaker/mother-figure, that she begins to lash out when it's removed from her:
It just reminded me of how badly many young gen-z and gen alpha kids rage when their phones/tablets are removed from them. Quite a lot of them even became depressed when tiktok was almost taken away from their app stores. A few even resorted to random acts of vandalism because of that. And now this sequel is trying to make it all seem like fun and games, to the point where they have to do character assassination of both protagonists of the last movie for it to make a lick of sense.
I know I'm saying this as if the first movie is some hidden masterpiece, but unfortunately, it's not. It has moments of good artistic vision and good social commentary that is sadly encased in a 7 out of 10 horror flick.
I thought a sequel would be a chance to try and improve upon the disturbing undertones, but instead they doubled down on the memes and stupidity along with roping in an A-list celebrity as a villain. It's like the horror version of a marvel sequel filled with jokes and a famous cameo, all in a trailer that probably spoiled 2/3 of the movie or more.

I watched the first one last night, it wasn't too bad. Not a classic but I don't feel my time watching was wasted. The sequel looks better so I'll definitely watch it when it comes to streaming.

It doesn't look terrible. Megan looked mid af while Chucky was getting too stupid to enjoy. This has a somewhat interesting plot to it.

I like the first movie, but I think I might like this one better, yes there is quite a big tonal shift, like alien > aliens, or better yet happy death day > hdd2, but I feel like here it works in its favour; what made the first movie work was a lot of the foreboding build-up and the quirky bits like the hall way dance sequence, but if you strip those out it's essentially just a worse chucky.
The movie basically serves as a megan redemption arc, and leaning into comedy and action bits from the first movie, with her personality intact, makes it feels like this is who she was supposed to become if she didn't go off the rails.
Her personality being intact and the uncanny doll face means she's still plenty creepy, and she looks like she could betray you at any moment, but there's no real "horror" anymore and no real quirky bits either.

In terms of tonal shift yes, however T2 is still fundamentally a movie about being hunted, whereas here they are hunting the rogue megan.

We watched this last night on Netflix. Never seen the first one.
It was a decent movie, but I have some complaints.
For a movie called M3gan there was a massive lack of M3gan.
I think there might have been more time with people talking about the legal issue of AI than actual AI on screen.
My Wife said this might be the first movie where the daughter does everything the mother/aunt tells them to do.
M3gan had more free will than the daughter.
I actually liked that the Aunt was main character, but honestly I really wanted more Robot girl action.
There were about 2 too many human antagonists.
Some fun fights near the end with spinning camera work.
M3gan 3.0 seems likely.

If they stick with the same actress as she ages I can see some sort of campy high school/college "sleepaway camp" spoof where the doll goes with the daughter/niece and has to deal with icky boys, some sort of brute killer, and probably a robot love interest. Should be fun.

I couldn't enjoy this movie even in a 'leave your brain at home-popcorn movie' way, which is what this movie totally is, but it couldn't even do (be) that.

It did copy a lot of the Child's Play reboot where Chucky was that AI controlled doll. But it weirded out a ton of people making you question letting technology raise our children.
