Mad Magazine Video Game Issue

Saw this on DC Comics' site. Anyone got a copy of this? :lol

Mind-numbingly dull "cinema sequences" -- as if we really needed to interrupt the game with ten minutes of bad acting and cliched dialogue to explain the deep motives and back story of why Ratchet and Clank are running and jumping
lol

Bwhahaha at perplexed Chief and the dig at Ratchet and Clank

I saw this on the newsstand and read through it. Awesome, they know a surprising amount about games. There must be some fans on the staff.

i'm not surprised they know so much about games....i think that most of us that were growing up on games also read Mad Magazine.

Speaking of which Mad needs to partner up with a better developer to do a TRUE Spy vs. Spy game....the last one was an atrocity

Flipped through this briefly in Walgreens the other day while waiting for a prescription. Kinda funny. MAD Magazine is like Saturday Night Live, been a long time since it was consistently funny, although supposedly there have been shorter periods of goodness now and then.

Remember when Mad Magazine was funny?

.. Yeah, neither can I.

Calling Dreamcast one of the lamest things of 1999? They'll never live that down in my eyes. ):

Fun game: ID the artists involved.

The controller at the top right is drawn by Peter Bagge (of Hate, Weirdo, Neat Stuff).

The roomoate pic art style is familiar, but I can't place it.

Oh yeah! Good call. I couldn't even tell until I looked at the fingers. Those are definitely Peter Bagge fingers. :lol

Yeah, the earlier ones were a lot classier.

1950's. Some really funny stuff in them back then.
I've never read that far back. How different is it from the 70s/80s?

EDIT: does anyone know where I can find a list of Mad movie satires? :)

I used to be really big on MAD and Cracked magazine back in the day, and I can't remember which one, but one of them did a video game issue that was magnifique. I think it was Cracked. But what was funny is that it came out around the time the N64 released, and it had Bill Gates interviewing Mario, and he had a line that went something like "yeah, I'll be looking at this so that I can steal it and use it later" or something like that. I'm not trolling Xbox or anything, but that is a pretty funny coincidence.

And yeah, that preview was great, but it's a little too direct and not MAD-like enough, thus making it look like a Sean "anti-Christ of funny" baby piece on a good day. A REALLY good day though. Funnier than Penny-Arcade and whatever the HELL that comic is on the back of an EGM. I don't think hardcore gamers should try being funny; their strength is obvious puns and impromptu metaphors, not humor!

It's sad that you'd be offended by that.

How exactly are we not supposed to think someone just launched a wad at Chun Li's face? Maybe I just watch too much fanfic Street Fighter hentai, but it just seems too blatant...

50's era stuff included more written humor. You might have a whole page or two of just plain text, along with pictorals and such... and the humor seemed more intellectual, as opposed to "HA HA HE GOT HIT". There was plenty of that too, mind you...

There was a "COmplete Mad Magazine" CD set released for home computers a couple of years ago... every issue up until 2000 or so.
