Gamecloud - First, how did the idea for making a PC action RPG out of the Mage Knight franchise come about?

Chris Wren - Making an action RPG is something we always wanted to do, late last year we started getting our ideas together about what kind of game it would be and what was needed to make it happen. We approached the Wizkids guys about Mage Knight because the universe is absolutely perfect for this kind of game. Mage Knight has so many diverse factions, magic, technologies as well as some nice history and back-story we felt it was a perfect match for the game we wanted to make.

Gamecloud - What can you tell us about the storyline for the game?

Chris Wren - As it turned out, there was an epic event happening in the Mage Knight universe right about the time we started putting together our plans for the game. The guys at Wizkids offered up the opportunity to tie our game in with that storyline and it made for great material to wrap a game story around. The story goes that an ancient egg had been stolen by an evil cult bent on bringing about the end of the world. From the egg would hatch the Apocalypse Dragon and it would be the harbinger of doom for the land of Mage Knight. We hired on a writer from WizKids to help us with the finer points of the history and motivations for the characters, but we knew we wanted heroes from all across the land to band together against this cult and its dragon. So five heroes from different factions, who normally would be fighting amongst themselves for land or power, are united against the greater threat of the Apocalypse, you will choose one of these heroes to be your avatar and you will proceed to unlock the mysteries of this cult and its plans as you battle your way across the land, building up your character, learning new abilities, and gaining new allies on your quest to the ultimate battle.

Gamecloud - What sort of playable characters will be used in Mage Knight Apocalypse?

Chris Wren - We spent a lot of time deciding what type of characters we wanted for the game and what abilities we wanted them to have. Among the five characters there are definitely some traditional RPG characteristics, we also merged a few archetypes into some new builds and with Mage Knight were able to bring a couple new things into the mix.

All of the playable characters in the game have several disciplines to specialize in and what is unique about mage knight is that it is how you play that determines how your character develops. By using certain abilities you will naturally advance your character towards a certain discipline and thereby unlock new abilities within that discipline. It's a practice makes perfect model of character advancement leaving out some of the tedium of choosing abilities from a tree, players will create characters which play how they like to play and will be rewarded for it.

Our main warrior is from the Amazon Faction of the game, a warlike female dominated culture. The Amazon culture worships several animal deities and through these the player will advance her combat disciplines
- she is a master of all weaponry, combat, and armor. The other four character types will be revealed in the coming months.

Sounds like it would be solid title, though I would've been much happier if it was thier Japanese teams working on this game.
