Been goofing around with this self mill deck a bit lately, lots of fun.

The mana can be a bit dodgy but it works out pretty well.

Funny you bring this up; I remember watching Brian Kibler play a deck like this on his livestream a while back and I bookmarked it in my head as one I would want to assemble should I ever get into MTGO. It looked like a lot of fun to play.

Looking at the price of singles on trade bots, it looks like it's not that expensive to assemble a lot of these fun, c-tier decks on MTGO, one you've acquired the mana base. I just have to figure out if I want to shell out for that stuff right away.

Haha my boyfriend plays MTG and I kinda want to as well but it's the kind of game where the learning curve is way too fucking steep to even stand a chance. Oh well, maybe one day.

This is why I've chosen to play standard. I only have to remember the cards from the current sets!

can you still use mtgo as an offline gatherer/deck builder without actually buying the starter stuff?

You can build decks without owning the cards. Obviously you can't use the deck without the cards, but you can still create it.

wunderbar. its much more efficient than having a bunch of txt files lying around.

edit: heh, forgot about the stats page. one of my decks has an average mana cost of 1.75 lol.

Uhhh, so Wizards spoiled the first card in a cycle of multicolored Legendary creatures that will come in the new Planechase decks:

Disgusting.

These decks will sell on their inclusion alone. Those sly bastards.

A few games in a row now I've had someone have a few threats out that I couldn't get rid of, and I end up with a tragic slip and a tribute to hunger in hand. Starting to love those two cards together.

You pick one, then I pick one!

Weird that GodbookGate came up just now. I tried 2 different methods for spoilers. With INN/DKA I went full black out. Nothing spoiled. With AVR, I went along with all the spoiler talk.

I got to say, with AVR, I'm much less excited about launch day. I think a real part of the game for me is the surprise. Surprise of opening packs, finding new cards, figuring out combos and tricks on my own.

I think I'm going try a 50/50 split with RTR. I'm going to learn about some of the mechanics, maybe a couple of the early cards, then black out until launch.

Yeah, I felt like I was the only guy at the AVR prerelease who didn't have the entire set memorized, but I would have regretted doing that. It probably put me at a disadvantage for deck construction but I don't care. I saw the first handful of rares and mythics spoiled in this thread but when long columns of cards started getting spoiled, I stopped reading.

So, I saw plenty at the event, but I don't really remember anything I didn't pull myself. That suits me just fine; I got to do the event and there are still plenty of surprises waiting for me on launch day. =]

Maybe my memory is just horrible but I don't remember any cards I didn't pull for the most part and I looked at all the leaks and reveals.

The only card I didn't pull that I can think of right off the top of my head is that blue SBer that turned those unsummoning ravens into thieving magpies, because the combo was such a beast.

Only one I remember is the red enchantment that's a rare that lets you copy a spell or instant you control. That was annoying.

So is it super common to have people disconnect during MTGO drafts?

I just did a Swiss DII draft online; ended up with a decent RB deck. I took Match 1 Game 1 against a janky BW deck, then my opponent disconnected in game two. I lost Match 2 to a deck with multiple Loyal Cathars, Niblis of the Breath, various control enchantments, etc (UW is so good in DII). And then Match 3 my opponent never did anything and timed out during the roll to see who would go first!

I mean, I like getting free packs, but I did pay to actually play some Magic. I did the Swiss format because I wanted to get a better feel for what kinds of decks people drafted in a group wider than just my friends, but this turned out to be super boring.

It's likely common in swiss queues where you're playing against 1600-1650s who don't care. Play in 8-4s if you want a more competitive scene that won't randomly disconnect.

I don't even know what those numbers mean. :)

I figured that 8-4 or 4-3-2-2 would have more competitive players, but I kinda wanted to be guaranteed multiple games in a draft to get some practice online. But if I get a lot of disconnects, that defeats the purpose.

Yeah, I've only drafted once in my life, so that's not a concern of mine either.

Yeah, disconnects are the rage quits of the MTGO world. Well, that and the AFK'ers. I hate those guys.

Sinatar...I missed a challenge from you the other day. Let me finish getting my nothing buy counter deck together and we're go for round whatever we're on.

So what is everyone buying this week for Avacyn restored? Booster boxes, fat packs, intro decks, holding out for the event decks? (Since they don't seem to be out this week)

For me, fat pack, the G/U intro deck mainly for the Wolfir Silverheart and a few other greens, and the R/W deck, which looks fun to adapt and improve upon. Also got a few DKA boosters coming, and a few other pieces like old player guides from DKA and New Phyrexia.

Picked up a booster box, fat pack, and each of the five intros. Pretty much standard for any block that I like. Unlike the Zendikar block this one managed to keep me engaged through to the last set. Ravnica I'll probably just do intros and a fat pack, or just the fat pack (I like those, for some reason).

Player rating. It starts at 1600 and when you win/lose a match, your ranking will increase/decrease by a certain number (exactly equal to what your opponent conversely loses/gains.)

Due to many people with sub-1600 ratings not playing often/ragequitting the game, the average person you play in a 4-3-2-2 or swiss queue will be in the 1640 range. A mediocre player will be in the high 1600s, a competent player will be in the 1750 range, and a great player will exceed 1800.

I swear I saw this ages ago. My brother wants it for his URG EDH deck.

Got a booster box in the mail! I'll get a fat pack and the G/U intro (maybe others), but I'll hold off until June. One booster box is plenty for one month! ...though I might brave some drafts with *eep* strangers...my weak-ass friends hardly ever want to draft.

Shit...just the prospect of playing against you guys is going to get me into MTGO. Maybe we can all do group drafts.

If we could actually do this I would be there in a heartbeat.

Is there any reason we can't? I assume MTGO has some kind of friends system and that you can invite friends into lobbies or something.
Plus the prospect of being able to draft older sets is extremely appealing to me: can you do that?

You can't control who enters drafts. There's no way of stopping random people from jumping in and thus making it so that one or more people miss out. That said, I've done quite a few group drafts on MTGO and they are great fun, unless you get unlucky at least 6 people should be able to get into an empty queue without a problem.

Punted the second round on my MTGO cube draft tonight because I accidentally hit "ok" on my second main phase instead of casting the game winning Tombstalker :/

I do stuff like that way too often when I play online.

Don't you hate that? I misplayed a land twice last FNM with my R/G deck and it was so frustrating. I literally just wanted to forfeit at that point. So frustrating.

I know I'm going to get the evils from the postman tomorrow, after carrying my AVR stuff almost all the way down the street in his bag on his round. Heh heh heh.

Yesterday it was my wife's new carpet cleaner
Today it was two big jugs of carpet cleaner liquid
...tomorrow...

...yeah I should bake my guy a cake or something
