Magic: The Gathering |OT|

I hate my draws too, my opening hand is always like hand+mana dorks or decent stuff but 1 land or two lands but they're kessig wolf runs. I just feel frustrated with the deck. Those are good things but they just never seems to happen. I think I got hunts like twice early on.

Ah, I forgot about him. Is he better than the wolfir avenger though? It would seem I could only keep one of the two.

Yes, although I have both in mine. If he's not killed off immediately, he wins the game for you. It's incredibly easy to bump him up to a level that makes you creatures an unblockable swarm.

Hmm, maybe I'll try building a vampire deck again... I wish I had better boxes to organize my cards though, I'll just have to buy one of those five row boxes online I guess. My cards are so messy now that I get halfway to making a deck and then quit because I don't want to hunt for the cards anymore.

Edit: $20 for those boxes is retarded...

Make your own?!

Turn two Champion -> turn 3 Huntsmaster seems like a pretty good way to go.

Yup, best turn 2/3 you can have

The deck I threw together is

4x Champion of Lambholt
4x Huntmaster
4x Stormkirk Noble (to help with all the human decks)
4x Birds
3x Strangleroot geist
3x Stonewright
3x Wolfir Avenger
2x Wolfir Silverheart
1x Inferno Titan

4x Abundant Growth
4x Pillar of Flame
2x Thunderous Wrath

Although I'm going to change some things up and test them, find some room for mutagenic growth to help protect the champion. Gutshot is in the sideboard but I don't know whether to mainboard it.

So my friends and I have been making our own sets, printing them out, and drafting/playing with them for a while now.. It's a good bit of fun, and allows us to play with self-contained sets WOTC can't print due to eternal format concerns.

Most of the group who I did that with graduated or failed out, leaving me with nothing but my old lead designer and the girlfriend of a Wizards employee who relayed most of the design tips to us in the first place.

It's going to cost an assload to print the cards out properly and ship them out (for prizes: I have a client we can play and draft the custom sets on online) but... Does neogaf want to fill in the void here and group design the set? I figure it'd be a nice thing to do with some money I've recently come in to; I'll also offer up prizes from my own collection to interested artists/winners of the post set completion tournament to keep things interesing.

Let me know how interested you guys would be in this, and I'll make the OT tonight.

Tl;dr:

Does GAF want to design a set with my buddies and I, play a tournament when we're done, and get prizes?

Good Block lists. I really like the Griselbrand list LSV is piloting.
That list is beautiful, wow. It's kind of a shame block constructed doesn't have the following at a game shops it does on MtGO.

Also, all the interest I have for the set design project aside from the initial three-person group is one player and one photographer/artist.
I'd need to start buying printing supplies/prize support and make the OT soon if this is to become a reality, so let me know. GAF is home to some of the most creative, insightful posters I've ever seen in a forum, and I'd love to be able to work on a fun little project like this with the lot of you <3

I might be slightly lovier than normal thanks to some doctor-supplied painkillers.

I had assumed you used furry art for the cards.
Dat Wolfir Silverheart, man.

But seriously, no. My plan is to appoint a lead artist/photographer, from GAF or otherwise, who already has a plan/fitting body of stray work.

Or, y'know, use public domain/readily available images and photography that fit a shared theme voted on by a group of gaffers.
I just think it would be neat to have a way to feature the art community here while giving the magic community a way to flaunt our creativity.

Not to mention the hilarious casual tournament scene that comes out of this sort of thing.

And prize support.

Early results on the "gimme your guys" deck. It's slow burning and causes a lot of anger. People get mad when you steal their guys, cloudshift and the sac block with mortarpod.

Needs some tweaking.

I don't have the time to contribute appreciably to design, but I wouldn't mind pitching in on development, trying to tweak it for power concerns and to work in limited and such. Might toss in a few designs, too, if I get some direction for the flavor and mechanics of the set.

I suspect you'll have to take more of a leading role if you want this to take off. Get together an OP with maybe 20 sample cards, a set theme, a few keyword mechanics, and a few holes to fill (e.g. we need a red uncommon removal spell that uses one of our keywords, or a signature black rare that fills this story niche) to get the juices flowing and you'll probably get at least a few MTG people to pitch in, if not take a serious role in the project.

I also think prize support may be more expense and trouble than it's worth, but it's cool that you're thinking about that kind of thing.

This sound similar to the culling dias deck my friend is playing. It's basically steal/sack other things for falkenrath aristocrat to make invincible and for culling dias and occasionally mortar pod if necessary.

Also, from the play testing tonight red/green aggro seemed ok but gets hit hard by early removal such as tragic slips.

I'd be willing to help out, for sure.

Played against my friend's exalted deck last night and exalt seemed kinda underwhelming. From what I hear, exalted is returning with the next set. Gotta say I'm not too excited for that mechanic alone.

But then again, I did play my hilarious blink deck that locked him outta combat phase each turn. Stoneforge Hinge + Venser/Nephalia Smuggler = lulz.

Lucario, I wish I had any creativity to really contribute but I'll add what I can.

Another OT thread title reminded me of the greatest flavor text of all time:

Prove me wrong.

I'm down! I love making custom cards on Magic Set Editor.

Some mixture of Level Up and Transmute.

Like, 3 level counters + sacrifice = search your hand or library for a "Charmeleon" and put it into play.

It should have an evolution mechanic.

It'd be "Pokemon: The Gathering" then.

We would have to have the six prizes while we were at it.

And the mana curve is a little much, yeah. But stuff like Blastoise trading it's power/toughness for a turn is interesting. I don't recall ANY Magic card doing that mechanic.

There are a few cards that do it, but not many. Calcite Snapper is one

Made some modifications to my Dark Ascension Intro Pack - Dark Sacrifice:

Out:
Disciple of Griselbrand
Wake Dancer
Skirsdag Flayer
Fiend of the Shadows
Demonmail Hauberk
2 x Death's Caress

In:
Ravenous Demon
4 x Tragic Slip
Elbrus, the Binding Blade
Sol Ring
Buried Ruin

I've yet to play it to see how it flows, but I play pretty casual and really want to see how Elbrus does in a multiplayer game.

Any suggestions on other good cards that generate humans? I'd like more Lingering Souls but I'm not sure what I would replace them with as it goes against my Human requirement, but also gets me more flying things to put Elbrus on...

So, GP Anaheim was a huge success. My standard gimme deck went undefeated all day, picked up a ton of great cards and hooked up with a dealer who wants to open a shop in my area. Might be going into the card B/S business.

Going to have to post that deck when I get home. It's a hell of a lot of fun.

This + the Rack would be crazy delicious. Why hasn't this been reprinted recently?

Because the rack is stupid and your face is stupid!

It does seem way overboard on the top end of the curve.
It should have an evolution mechanic.

It'd be great in limited.

Also holy hell is blue aggro great in AVR limited. There are just so many ways to get ahead on tempo it's ridiculous- Mist Raven (2/2 flier for 4 that bounces), Crippling Chill (tap creature, doesn't untap next turn, draw a card for 3), Into the Rift (bounce up to 2 creatures for 4). I used it with a copious amount of evasion creatures and weenies in white to go 4-0 in my sealed pool tonight, but it feels like it would work just as well with green ground pounders or all the red cards that get more powerful when they deal damage to the opponent, or even some of the suicide black cards.
