A. How did Wandering get banned? :(

B. I'm not excited about a return to high fantasy unless they're going to back to Dominaria. The old-school Magic world has been ignored for far too long IMO.

C. I loved the flavor of the Scars block and the cards were really fun to play with. I'm going to be sad to see them rotate out, except for Infect. I even like Phyrexian mana, though they could have been smarter about how they made some of the cards.

Whew. Close one. Not going to talk about it.

But how can you be upset at Elves coming back? Elfball in standard?

I'm not a huge fan of elves, plus they did elves in the Scars block and the Zendikar block before it so they weren't really gone for that long. I liked them moving out and away with Innistrad... I think they should grow the flavor of the game more often. I mean, returning to the old stuff will always happen, yes, but they're not on a milk carton or anything lol

If we're returning to old concepts, I'd like to see them return and do Fallen Empires justice. Let's get a high-powered Rising Empires block and bring back weird shit like thalids, especially that tokens are now a viable strategy and Parallel Lives has so much potential. We'll likely never see Homelands return (they did discuss doing this with Innistrad but decided the set was too big a blight haha), and that makes me sad.

I don't know, I get the vibe from Innistrad is that this is them trying to do Homelands correctly, having a heavily setting-driven, top-down designed set. I do love the idea of a Rising Empires set, but my pick for a new set would be a return to Arabian Nights. I would love to see what they would do with Djinn's under today's design standards.

Yeah, I felt that way about the set too, but they literally said on the Wizards site that they considered and ultimately decided against actually branding it as Homelands (MaRo, I think). A return to Arabian Nights would be great as well.

Oh, I just want more elfs to add to my legacy deck. The ones from Scars were pretty bad, but Zendikar had Joraga, which is now a staple. Not too mad.

But, I really like the different favors they come up with. It's fun to see what they brew up, and honestly, the more fantastical, the better.

I have the sort of the opposite feel this block from the last. I hated the whole flavor from Scars (I like the mirrodin stuff, hated the Phyrexian stuff) but I really enjoy playing with a lot of those cards.

I just found out about Gut Shot...it's too soon! Same with Beast Within, Puresteel and Surgical Extraction,

Have you not discovered Dismembered? Also, I have Corrosive Gale sideboarded. It totally helped yesterday when I went zombies vs an all flying artifact deck.

Played EDH, lasted about 4 hrs with 6 players golfham!

All I really want is no Titans in M13. I have to imagine they won't do that again and I think they've said as much or at least acknowledged the negative reaction towards the reprint in 12.

Ok I can't figure out how to trade with bots. I go into the Trade channel and select a bot that offers 100 commons for 1 ticket. Are tickets the same as event tickets? If not how to I acquire them? From this point I can't really figure out how to take it further. I can't click on the listings and if I right click on the bot and select trade it takes me to a empty trade screen. How can I get a ticket and look at the bots stock and select the cards I want to trade?

Yes ticks are event ticks, make sure you made them tradeable in your collection.

I happen to love the Titans, but they're not good for the game in general. They're the epitome of creature creep. Adding some sort of a drawback to them would have made a lot more sense.

For instance, Grave Titan could be exactly the same, except he should deal two damage to you each upkeep. Frost Titan should tap one of your creatures at the upkeep. Primeval Titan should require a mana cost or get sacrificed.

Putting them in as is, well, they had to know they were creating cards that would be dominant. But it makes things a bit predictable when EVERYONE is using them.

Ok thanks, this helps. So I go into my collection and make event tickets tradeable. From that point I should be able to open a listing in the Trade channel and offer my ticket for 100 commons or whatever the bot is offering? Thanks for the help.

Pretty much yeah. It's not really the actual Titans that bother me. It is just that it would be nice if there was more than one viable thing per color at that 6-mana slot.

I'm going to laugh and then cry if they swap out the Titans for the elemental cycle from Lorwyn. What's worse to see your opponent play then a Primeval Titan? Vigor

Vigor is such a ridiculous card. I'd definitely take the titans over the elemental incarnations any day.

Okay, every time I see this thread pop up, I tell myself that I need to stop being lazy and post my W/G deck I hastily built in an hour and get some suggestions on how to make it better. So here goes:

4 Spectral Rider
4 Loam Lion
3 Leonin Skyhunter
2 Serra Angel
1 Doomed Traveler

1 Phyrexian Rebirth

4 Llanowar Elves
4 Avacyn's Pilgrim
4 Essence Warden
3 Gladecover Scout

4 Overrun
2 Doubling Chant
2 Clinging Mists

12 Plains
10 Forest

I know it needs work, and some of the stuff in it is just in there for the sake of being in there (Phyrexian Rebirth, specifically), but I've won a few games with it and I feel like it's got potential. It's just missing...something. But I can't quite put my finger on what. Any suggestions, Magic-GAF?

Sun Titan over Serra Angel?
Viridian Emmisary over Gladecover Scout?
Gavony Township.
Sunpetal Grove/Razorverge Thicket.

You have a ton of mana ramp, but nothing to really ramp into. Maybe throw some fatties in there.

Get rid of all those WW creatures. I personally like Blade Splicers in my 3 mana drops. OnPoint lives up to his name with his suggestions lulz. Hero of Bladehold, Gideon Jura, Garruks, and green creatures with Trample as fatties are good. I wouldn't even bother with Phyrexian Rebirth. I recall playtesting it, casting it, thinking I had a 12/12 fatty, only for it to be mind controlled next turn. The other game, it simply got Unsummoned. :(

Oh Beast Within is nice.

Just built my first deck online, I've only ever played in drafts before ^_^

What do you guys think? W/G/B, made it with no monocolor cards!
except land tax lol

u2sfN.png

I really wanted to make a deck with Kor Spiritdancer, but she costs almost as much as my whole deck :-(

Okay, I've been sorting using Deckbox, but it's so time consuming.

Is there a site that lets you build collections by the set/card art? Sort of like How tcgplayer.com lets you buy by clicking on the set, then picking the cards?

Ooops, guess it didn't pick up my two supply/demand. I love split cards ^_^

I posted initially when you had 57 cards. I mentioned that, then edited after yours.

But I loooooooooove lifegain :-(

You don't think I have enough creatures, even with 4 Reborn Hope? Almost a third of my deck is creatures. Is there a general rule of thumb for creature/spell/land ratios? I usually go for 40% land then whatever.

edit:

I have a couple cards from drafts I was thinking about adding, any of these meet what you'd think are good for my deck? None of them are multicolor, though.

1x Thopter Assembly
1x Geist-Honored Monk(good combo w/above!)
2x Creepy Doll
1x Suture Priest
1x Curse of the Bloody Tome

Went 2-1 at a DA/Inn Sealed with some friends today, I put together this U/B/w Zombie deck that slaughtered when I had a good opening hand and sucked when I didn't. Best part was that I pulled a Helvault which is going straight into my Commander deck. (I had one guy scoop when I hit seven mana with the vault out)

Thing with lifegain is that unless your deck is built specifically around it, it's not going to win you the game. At best, it'll just delay a loss. You have a scattering of creatures, but too many spread out...like, the odds of you grabbing what you want are pretty small.

But, I play 3 colors max. Maybe somebody more attuned with prismatic decks can help you out a bit more.

Geist honored monk...I love that card.

EDIT: Techno, I pulled a Helvault last night too. Pretty fun card.

Such a weird deck.

Is it just Bant beat down or do you have some plan for it?

I threw it into MTGO to take a look at the stats, here's my initial thoughts:

- You have no 1 drops, your deck doesn't do anything on the first turn.
- Half your lands come into play tapped. Bounce lands will also bounce themselves if there are no other lands in play. If you draw an opening hand with only bounce lands, you will not be able to play anything until you get one of your basic lands or the Bant land. Bounce lands will also set you back a turn. If you draw one basic land, and one bounce land, you will have to wait to turn 3 before doing anything.
- Life gain sucks. I'm sorry, if you're not running test of endurance you shouldn't have life gain.
- You don't have enough mana fixers for the amount of multi colored cards you want to run.
- You have only 4 cards you can reliably play on turn 2, Sureblade and Favor. Seeing as how one of these cards is an aura, you really only have 2 cards that are reliable two drops.
- 27 lands is too much when your mana curve looks like this:
iEU1Qsco1UwwK.png

- You have only two cards with Tap abilities, Unbender Tine is pointless.

Sanguine bond would be a great add to a life gain deck.

I'm trying to remember the name of this card with the ability: When you have 0 life, you don't die, instead you get three life counters..

This is my first time making a deck and I'm no competitive magic player, I have no idea what I'm doing other than I wanted a white/green/blue deck :/

  • I thought Unbender Tine could untap my creatures if I attack?
  • I thought the bounce lands were cool because they add two mana, are they bad?
  • So both of you guys say to get rid of Heroes' Reunion even though it's an easy 7 life for 2?
  • What do you mean mana fixers? The reason I have all these weird lands is to cover the color combinations.

So basically what you guys are saying is, get rid of Heroes' Reunion and Unbender Tine, add 4 one-mana creatures and get rid of a couple bounce lands? How do you guys feel about my creatures?

It's cool, I realize I came off as a kind of a dick, my bad.
I thought Unbender Tine could untap my creatures if I attack?
Yes, but it's not worth 4 mana just to untap one creature after it attacked. For one, you assume that you can even attack at all. Attacking requires establishing board control, and you don't have any Pacificisms or creature destruction/bounce/removal. Your creatures themselves are not that strong either.
I thought the bounce lands were cool because they add two mana, are they bad?
Bounce lands are fine, 6 is too much. You need to be able to reliably play your spells, and having 6 bounce lands will set you back very far if you get unlucky draws.
So both of you guys say to get rid of Heroes' Reunion even though it's an easy 7 life for 2?
Life gain is generally bad in constructed because it doesn't win you games. Whats more important is having control over the board. All the life in the world won't help you if you don't have any creatures to swing with (they are destroyed, countered, bounced, locked down against superior creatures, etc).
What do you mean mana fixers? The reason I have all these weird lands is to cover the color combinations.
The dual lands are good mana fixers, yes, but they come with their own weaknesses. The most obvious of which is that most of them only provide 2 colors, when you are running 3. So imagine if you have an Island and a Simic Growth Chamber, but in your hand is an Azorius First Wing and a Wilt Leaf Cavalier. What do you do then? Nothing, because you're lacking white.

Consider Evolving Wilds or Terramorphic Expanse. Like the bounce lands, they will set you back a turn. Unlike the bounce lands, however, you can play them on turn one, get any single mana you need, and thin out your deck at the same time.
So basically what you guys are saying is, get rid of Heroes' Reunion and Unbender Tine, add 4 one-mana creatures and get rid of a couple bounce lands? How do you guys feel about my creatures?
For a creature based deck, I like to have six to eight 1 drops.

Wall of Vines: No
Pride Guardian: No
Birds of Paradise: Yes
Hedron Crab: No
Angel's Herald: No
Scute Mob: No
Thallid: Uh... maybe.

Just wondering is this a Bant Block deck or just casual?

Casual, I guess? I just play with friends.

So if I add 3 Birds of Paradise and 3 Noble Heirarchs I'll be good on the 1 mana creatures? But they're both green... Is there a good 1-mana multicolor or artifact creature?

edit: something like this, maybe?

Thank link doesn't seem to work?

Ok, so looking at my deck, how about I...

Get rid of:
2x Unbender Tine
2x Heroes' Reunion
2x Azorius Chancery
2x Simic Growth Chamber
1x Experiment Kraj

Add:
2x Bird of Paradise
4x Noble heirarch
2x Steel Wall

Does that fix my deck for the most part?

edit, I fixed it, looking at the cards now.

double edit: I used to have a Rhys the Redeemed in there, I guess I took it out because it's legendary so I can only have one and that's pretty low odds for first turn.
...meh. They don't seem super useful.

There are better creature choices. Let me look into it.

Also I realized the Borderposts can be your 1 drop.

T1:
Island/Forest/Plains
Bounce to your hand for Borderpost.

Also the Noble Hierarchs are probably outside of your budget, unless you already have those. They're like $10-$15 a pop. Also is there any specific reason you want W/U/G or do you just like those colors?

A 3 drop to consider:
Rhox War Monk

I tried to just make minor tweaks, so that the "spirit" of your own deck stayed true. But, yeah, these are pretty decent ideas. I play super casual too, so I have a lot of decks that would get destroyed at FNM - but I made them and they're fun for me.

Life gain, unless you build specifically around it (there are cards that let you win if you have X life) then yeah, it's a bad thing to have just a couple of cards dedicated strictly to.

You should probably add Rhox War Monk. Also, Rafiq of the Many is a terrific card in this sort of deck, along with Qasali Pridemage.

Are walls only good for decks where you're trying to bide time or something? I always seem to frustrate people with walls.

I actually had all 3 of those in my deck options when it was around 90 cards lol. I'll probably just turn it into an exalted deck at some point, but I don't have much cash for cards right now so the priority is fixing the problems.

Walls are never good :3

Except in draft, and even then there are better choices.

God damn Gatherer is infuriating. I JUST WANT NON-BLACK NON-RED GOLD CARDS.

Walls require you to be playing defense- they're fine if they contribute to a longer-term gameplan. (Wall of Omens is hilarious against Doran decks and good in general)
