Pulled Serra Avatar, Thragtusk, Stuffy Doll, Ground Seal, Hellion Crucible, and Fervor as my rares in the prerelease. Went GW, and somehow managed to place 9th out of ~30 despite having absolutely no way to deal with flyers (didn't get any white flyers, spiders, or Plummets). I was missing a ton of good green and white cards too (no Rancors, wurms, exalted etc). I lost to my little brother's unblockable/flying UB weenie deck (using the black Auras to boost them), and a friend who pulled two Thundermaw Hellkites and proceeded to cast them in two consecutive turns using his RW deck. Each other deck I went against was part green; it seemed very popular this time around.

I had an incredibly close game in the final round; I had an Attended Knight with a couple of +1/+1 counters and Stuffy Doll on the field, and the opponent had only Rancored Spiked Baloth with a single point of life remaining (after Stuffy Doll's damage). I destroyed his guy with mine, and passed - he passed straight back. And I decked out :(

I epically revenged him with a 24/24 trampling Serra Avatar in game 3 though, so it all worked out!

Has anyone got opinions over vampire decks? I have a number of red and black cards, mostly from the Innistrad block. Few good reprints in m13 also- Vampire Nighthawk and Vampire Nocturnus also.

Opinion from what I've seen seems to be mixed- mainly that they're fun to play, but not overly competitive. Is that the consensus here?

I've already got some Stromkirk Nobles, Stromkirk Captains, a Falkenrath Aristocrat, Falkenrath Marauders, Bloodlord of Vaasgoth, and a fair number of other commons/uncommons. The problem seems to be the low mana cost cards. Stromkirk Noble is an obvious choice, but what about two and three drops? Blood Artist and Falkenrath Exterminator perhaps?

Blood Artist is a great little card. I'd use the 2 drop for Go For the Throat and Vampire Interloper. I have a pretty awesome B/R Vamp standard deck and that's what I use

Went 3-2 at the prerelease today. Played UW with Sublime Archangel and 2 Serra Angels leading the way. Had Negate, Essence Scatter, and Rewind to protect my stuff. An Oblivion Ring was nice too. Also had a Switcheroo but never got to resolve it for value.

Got 2 prize packs and pulled a Worldfire (eh) and a Garruk (woot).

Just checked, and I have an Interloper, seems like a good card for the mana!

I was looking at Bloodline Keeper for a four drop. Interesting card, question being if I would have enough vampires on my table often enough to transform it? On the other hand, Falkenrath Marauders is more expensive, but could quickly ramp up if my opponent doesn't have too many ways of dealing with flyers? However I'm then relying on a specific situation for them to pull off!

I use them both. Bloodline makes his own friends and you'll have plenty of smaller drops to keep the wolves at bay. Don't skimp on creature removal though. Shock, Pillar of Fire, etc. Vamps right now need unfettered access to your opponent.

This is the best vampire deck I've been able to whip up. It's very very swingy, I either crush or get crushed.

Has anybody tried playing a game over Skype? Is it even possible?

I asked this question a few months back but didn't get any response.

I was able to play an 8 man ffa with a couple of friends with one of them being on skype, depending on the cam quality, I'd say it is doable and fun with the occasional re-reading the card's ability over skype.

I recently bought an Avacyn booster box, along with my pre-order for m13 and was able to pull a couple of mythics:

Craterhoof Behemoth
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
Sigarda, Host of Herons
Avacyn, Angel of Hope
Tibalt, the Fiend Blooded
Temporal Mastery

plus some other notable (?) rares:
Angel of Jubilation (3), Killing Wave (2), Vexing Devil, Moonsilver spear (2)

From the cards I got, I was able to build a g/w Angel/Human deck, mono red Human/Vamp. and a mono black Sac deck using Soulcage Fiend & Exquisite Blood

I'm rebuilding my collection from scratch since I lost all my cards, and I'm pretty much hoping I get lucky pulls when I get my m13 box this Friday.

Got back into Magic a couple weeks ago thanks to Duels 2013 - posted about it in this topic. Since then I've grabbed an Event Deck, a Common/Uncommon M13 Play Set and an M13 Fat Pack, all for "regular" play, to help build up a base of cards for kitchen table Magic.

But I'm also a collector at heart so I've been trolling Ebay for complete sets of any and every expansion. Tonight I finally nabbed one! Sure it's
Fallen Empires
but hey... every collector has to start somewhere :p

Fake Edit: Actually now that I total up what I've spent... I am just now realizing I'm up to $139 already! Damn, this IS an expensive hobby. I better cool it until RtR, lest the wife find out.

What a shit set value wise. But it's pretty fun to play limited with.
Went to three different sealed events (two solo, one two headed giant) took first twice and third once. Collected 20 prize packs in all (low attendance meant small payouts). Between those 20 and the 20 I opened for drafting, I got maybe 60 bucks worth of cards :/

Oh and winning a two headed giant with your girlfriend as your partner is quite fun. Except when she jacks all the rares afterwards lol.

Ya, I played 2 prereleases and I've gotten shit yet again. I got shit for the 6 boosters and in my prize packs. I opened like 4 glacial fortresses, 2 krenko, ground seals, reverberate, etc. All of M13 so far and all of avacyn I literally got no good rares. My luck lately has been beyond horrible.

Welcome back and don't worry about the expenses yet. Decided I wanted to build a Type 1 deck finally and just spent over twice that on one card.

Had a pretty bad sealed deck the other night, didn't win one game, let alone match. Some how got mana screwed every game playing U/W. First game I kept a hand of 3 lands and white creatures and first draw got Jace, followed by three more U cards and a Plains ;(. After that it ended up being the same thing every time, stall them out and draw into a flood of mana. Also doesn't help opening garbage like Touch if the Eternal.

That was part of the 10th anniversary giveaway. Every player got a semi-random (no rares, I don't think) foil from PDS slivers, and older accounts got all sorts of stuff. I started MODO in 7th edition, and they gave me the following:

PDS Slivers, PDS Fire & Lightning, PDS Graveborn, foil UNH island, UNH mountain, alara block foil booster pack.

Yeah.

I see. So they didn't give anything away for June for the player rewards program itself? Just the 10th anniversary one?

Got stomped at 2H giant. ; ;

Had fantastic rares, including a foil Krenko and a Thundermaw Hellkite...but shit commons. Absolute garbage. Not one counter, nor any mana fixing. Two removal spells - a murder and that white 4cc - sitting in otherwise mediocre colors. Went 1-3 with one of the losses being an extremely close game...milled one of their decks down to one card. We let them undo a major screw-up towards the end which ultimately cost us the game. Ah well. At least we earned M:tG karma

Safe passage and Exalted are garbage in 2H giant.

That's not how our judges ran it at all. They decreed it applies to the team's attackers. They even made announcement before we started.

Exalted only applies if it's the only creature attacking on the team. A quick google search confirms this.

I'd ditch Sheoldred too. You'd have to hard-cast it and you have no mana ramp. Assuming you draw enough mana to play it on turn 7, you probably didn't have enough nonland cards to maintain a winnable position, and your graveyard isn't gonna have more than a couple creatures, probably small ones, so you can't even take full advantage of her if she comes out in time.

Nightbird's Clutches is great for red vamps. So is Vampiric Fury...you won't always have the counters you need. It can really save your ass.

So here's a quick summary of how my prerelease went: 5 events, $101, 36 packs total, 3 mythics.
This means "very badly," btw.

Just. Very depressed right now about this weekend.

I guess our judge told us wrong, sorry about the confusion. Not sure if it came up for me at all today or not.

Sorry to hear that dude but you should've came around and paid attention to the thread. Right now even winning packs of m13 is probably the worst set you could open right now. I'd much rather take AVR packs.

There's quite a few good prices rares and mythics. None of which I got. Even going by mythics alone, 3 in 36 isn't a lot. 36 is the same amount as a box. Boxes usually have 4-7 mythics. So by price (within the set) and by mythic ratio, I got a lot of crap.

Really? I've never gotten a box with over 4 mythics with the average being 3... Anything over 4 is definitely not common. And what he's saying is there are so many junk rares, especially because of all the reprinting that your odds of getting decent pulls is low. I got crap for my 20 packs.

I don't know what kind of mythical boxes you've been buying but the last 6 we've split I think the most we got in one box is 2 mythics. Maybe we're extremely unlucky but 4+ mythics seems like a lot.

I am on an absolutely ridiculous luck streak with boosters right now in terms of % of mythics. Like 6 in the last 10 or 12 opened. They must just be tempting me to buy a box.

Any EDH/Commander players up in here?

Yar, our little group was really into EDH for a while but it's died out. I still enjoy it though, have an Olivia Voldaren, Azami, Uril mistwalker, Niv Mizzet (which I never play because it amounts to holding on until I get curiosity) a Sharuum, and a Iona deck.

So me and my friends were discussing something since arbor elf is out now. What do you consider more beneficial, would you keep your mana tapped until the last second to use arbor elf to untap and then play an instant (whether a counter or a pump spell, etc.) to try and hope they forget you're not actually short on the pump/counter or do you do it early try to show something that you might not have and in return have them play around it? Either way you have to do it the whole match otherwise they know you're only showing when you don't, etc.. I feel like a lot of people would forget I can get an extra mana by waiting to tap but I know there are definitely people who will play around me depending on what I leave open. Do you guys thing one is better than the other?

Hi all,

I've just gotten back into Magic after a 12-year absence, and I decided to pick up the Humanity's Vengeance event deck, because White and Blue were always my favourite colours. I also opened up a Fat Pack of Avacyn Restored, and I got a few cards that I wondered might be good in the deck. Any advice on whether I should add these cards; or if I should seek out any others to add to the deck would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you actually have something you don't want to advertise it, if you don't have something then you want to bluff it.

Ya, but if you go by that logic, even time I show they know I have nothing, every time I don't, they don't know I have it. I'm not sure how you can do that with arbor elf if you switch just on that.

Champion of Parish should be a 4 of in any humans deck. You actually have quite a bit of spells in there, so I'd replace Wingcrafters for everyone's favorite - Delvers. Add some Silverblade Paladins. Add some Gather the Townsfolk. Since you acutally run quite a few blue creatures, if you're willing to shell out for them, add some Snapcasters. Since you run quite a bit of Phyrexia mana spells, I'd add a Timely Reinforcements.

My W/U humans deck is basically all white humans to take advantage of Honor of the Pure. The U is really only there for Geist of Saint Traft and Moorland Haunts. I'll post my deck when I get home and you can compare. It will probably change once I get my hands on some m13 cards. Totally forgot prerelease was this past weekend lol.

Guess it depends on how often you are going to play the same people.

Would Arbor Elf really be any more useful for bluffing than a Llanowar? I think most people are pretty used to seeing that one mana elf on your side as a potential mana source. And all other things being equal leaving it untapped is better since it can be a blocker who still gives you mana before combat damage.

The average box will contain 4.5 mythics, it's slightly worse than average. Even then, the only mythics worth money right now are Ajani, Liliana, Sublime Archangel and Thundermaw Hellkite.

Been at my local store all afternoon. Really good, couple of guys took me through the basics. Got my DOTP promo, a M13 40 card starter deck, and the pre release promo.

Most of the players there didn't like M13 either!

Some people at my prerelease weren't used to it and thinking of it like llanowar and was confused when I floated mana to ramp to something quicker.

Edit: Bleh, sorry about the double post, I thought I edited. :/

If I have a Bloodlord of Vaasgath in play and i play a vampire that already has bloodthirst 1, does the bloodthirst stack or replace? Do it get bloodthirst 4 or just 3?
