I'd love to see a Doubling Season reprint. The $25 it commands on SCG is a bit too much for my tastes.
I think Doubling Season is too broken with Planeswalkers.
A pic of it too:
Regardless, we'll learn soon enough if it's fake or not![]()
Erenberger Bruce
My wife bought a sealed booster box from our local card shop. This was in the 3rd booster pack from the top. in a sealed pack. It was in place of where the land card would be, just after the rare. Its the only card that didn't belong out of the entire box, So I wasn't sure what to make of it. Who knows, maybe it will get printed correctly and I'll just have a unique card to myself.![]()
If it is a fake it's probably the most well done fake in years.
The artwork is from a known Magic artist in his style, has elements of Selesnya in the painting and the artwork is not available or found anywhere else.
The mechanic is cute enough to actually be the new GW mechanic and it meshes reasonably well with the original GW ability Convoke.
Most fakes are done at the rare or mythic level because it's easier to believe a busted/broken card. A decent limited common is much harder to do.
Right now I have no reason to not believe it's real.
Correct, it's likely to get reprinted, just not in a Standard-legal product.I think Doubling Season is too broken with Planeswalkers.

Price really isn't that big a deal w/ casual cards because it doesn't affect format accessibility. It's actually sort of a desired effect.Anything to drive down price. Its my favorite card of all time but my pure green thallids deck that contained both my copies got lost a few years ago![]()

I'm with you on all that but to play devil's advocate, how could one card from a future set months away show up in a sealed pack?
Ya, doubling season will not be reprinted. Ulting Bolas or pretty much any planeswalker instantly and not killing the planeswalker is broken.
Why would it not die? I assume the reason Doubling Season is strong is because it lets their + abilities generate twice the amount of loyalty.

It is strong with the cheaper planeswalkers, but if you lost to a 8 mana card followed by a 5 mana enchantment you were going to lose anyway.

Better stock up on Geist of St. Traft.
If Rootborn Defenses is actually real (which it seems be be) then GoST is going to be even more killer.
GoST > Attack > Rootborn Defenses = congrats, your GoST and Angel token are now safe from combat tricks that were meant to take GoST out AND you get to keep the Angel token!
Ah I see, I didn't realize it also doubled their beginning count, but that makes sense.
Yeah. Funnily enough it doesn't actually double the loyalty they gain from abilities, as that loyalty is worded as a cost and Doubling Season only doubles effects.
Doubling Season will double the amount of counters planeswalkers come into play with. Why would it not die? I assume the reason Doubling Season is strong is because it lets their + abilities generate twice the amount of loyalty.
Followed by? You would have to play the 5 mana card first... A Bolas deck is very possible right now, it's not that hard in a control deck to get to 5 mana.
No more flashing in Wolfir Avenger to surprise block a Geist.![]()
WotC's reaction is the giveaway here.My money is that the Rootbound Defenses card is either real, or that guy is getting pranked by somebody pretty hard. He seems legitimate that he opened that thing.
I had the rule wrong. But still, if you have room in a Grixis control deck for a 5 mana do-nothing enchantment your meta is shitty.
So you want to see Standard populated by token decks?I'm less interested in this card in general, and more interested in the mechanic, and wondering what they'll attach it to. I want to see token decks just run out of control.
I've been running a Grixis control deck for a while, and I can safely say that even if Doubling Season was legal, I wouldn't even consider it.
Geist is going to be so hard to remove if Rootborn Defenses sees maindeck play.
Hexproof, indestructible, make an angel GODDAMN.
...the only answers to Geist with indestructible right now are like Geth's Verdict, Black Sun, Mutilate...Killing Wave...Terminus...Devastation Tide (lol?)... two of which are going to rotate by the time Rootborn comes along. Fuuuuuu there better be some answers to hexproof in RtR. I hate that keyword so much.
I've said it before, but I think that the problem with Hexproof isn't the keyworded ability, but the creatures they give it to.
Blue is a very interactive color, with counterspells, unsummons, deck manipulation, etc. It has some of the most consistent and broadly applicable spells. It should not also end up with hexproof creatures, otherwise you end up building decks where only one player can interact with the other (Invisible Stalker being one of the worst offenders).
Green, on the other hand, is typically not a very interactive color. It's very vulnerable to the more interactive colors, and as such I think it's fine for it get hexproof creatures. Cards like Thrun and Dungrove are just fine in my book.
It depends entirely on what you want to do. Do you want to just play casually with friends or do you want to go to your local store and play in weekly events and stuff? What's the best way to get actually into the physical card game? I have been playing it on steam and really like it but I want to actually try the physical game. I picked up some of the new player "packs" at Target and a box that came with some land and expansion packs. Do I need to buy any of the old cards or is the Magic 2013 set and the new sets that come out enough?
Thanks!

It's a shame m12 is not going to be standard soon, I would've loved to build a deck around
Stonehorn Dignitary and Conjurer's Closet
not the best combo obviously, but it would be cool as hell to see it work
