Vengevine's already jumped to $16 on MTGO, jesus.

Why did I pick today of all days to sleep in.

Looking for some last minute advice on my Junk Reanimator:

4x Arbor Elf
3x Deathrite Shaman
3x Lotleth Troll
4x Thragtusk
2x Craterhoof Behemoth
1x Griselbrand
3x Angel of Serenity

4x Grisly Salvage
3x Mulch
4x Lingering Souls
4x Unburial Rites

4x Woodland Cemetery
4x Overgrown Tomb
4x Temple Garden
2x Sunpetal Grove
2x Vault of the Archangel
5x Forest
4x Swamp

== Sideboard

2x Armada Wurm (if they have a lot of ways to get rid of my dorks/spirits he seems stronger than Craterhoof)
1x Angel of Glory's Rise (zombies)
2x Duress (control)
2x Sever the Bloodline
2x Liliana of the Veil (control)
2x Oblivion Ring
2x Centaur Healer (zombies)
2x Abrupt Decay

--

I feel like if I don't get a hand with Mulch or Grisly Salvage in it I'm basically screwed. I should be running 4 mulch, but what should I cut for the 4th. Loltroll maybe?

God, I hate Sheldon as a commentator. Every once in a while, you get a "If I were judging this...." and they are interesting insights on judging and tournament play, but otherwise he seems confused at what is going on. They need to use him like Fox uses Mike Pereria- bring him in for issues that concern him. but keep him off mike the rest of the time

So there's a combo deck with it at the Pro Tour?

David Ochoa vs Brad Nelson on stream now, they are hyping up Brad's brew.

'Good hand?'
'No actually they are pretty dry' :lol

ah here's the Nivmagus deck, cats out of the bag now I guess.

I am happy that card is getting a shot. Very cool card.

(Also just picked up 4.)

I got mine on CoolStuffInc with 99 cent shipping a few minutes ago. Now they are all sold out. Lol.

It's definitely good for short term profit, but I imagine it's a rogue deck that will get hated out of the format before the next event. Or just get relegated to an MTGO budget deck, which is probably good for the format.
Or maybe I'm wrong and it will be banned at the next set release :D

I wonder if anyone will die by Slaughter Pact.

Welp, there goes any chances of Nivmagus being the next Delver.

If I ever got to a PT I would have tokens for all my shit.

Ok I wouldn't have noticed those Goyf killing shenanigans without the casters

Ban Jund :x

(I don't see anyway to remove Jund domination from Modern, without a season of everyone packing dedicated hate or just an entire season of Jund. It has too much good stuff going for it to be ruined by any bans.)

You can have a pile of Tip Cards but you can't bother to have a pile of Tokens? Pfffffft.

Don't worry, the deck's still good. Jund may have hit the point of "obnoxiously opressive" though.

Haha, yeah. Just havin' fun.

But I can definitely see Jund getting to that point. I kind of thought it would happen. I started playing magic again during the Alara/Zendikar standard, so I've felt the brunt force of Jund many times. :p

....and it looks like Brad, needing to top 25 the event to STAY ON THE TRAIN, plays a deck that can never beat Jund. Which, it seems like, is a pretty high choice in the metagame.

Also, how the fuck does that deck function if it doesn't have turn 1 Nivmagus?

Love the Izzet flavor vid, but MaRo's thing at the end was super corny. lol

And I think I prefer the Graphic Tee/Blazer combo to this guy's getup. I can't even hear what he's saying, I can't stop looking at how massive his jacket is.

I don't know, but I'm rooting for him.

Anyone have any idea what he's playing?

Edit: According to the stream chat, his name is Ryan Morlock.

Edit Edit: Kyle, apparently.

That Negate should not have sat in Kenji's hand like that. He needed to actively try and keep the # of Goblins at a level where he could buy a second turn.

Yeah, in game two he also let things get out of hand when he could have at least lessened things a bit.

Yea they are pretty awful. I like Marshall Sutcliffe though, but they don't use him enough.

I think that Marshall and Zac are a fantastic team. Their coverage on the Player's Championship was quality.

And do you know why that is? Because they're not trying to crack stupid jokes and laughing at each other's bullshit the entire time. They just say smart things about what's happening in the game at that moment.

Catching up on the stream now (Australia has its disadvantages).

I don't get this Nivmagus combo deck. Let's play a combo deck that dies to any sort of creature removal! It's like those all-in infect decks, but not as good.

Two packs tonight, one Pithing needle and I was kind of blah and then the second pack gave me Jace #4...now to work on getting Tamiyos

I think it could be better if they played it a little more cautiously. I mean they have things like Apostles blessing and Mutagenic growth in the deck which could help protect the key creatures but they were just vomiting all those out on turn 2 to try and hit for 9.

Ran a couple of RtR 8-4s that didn't go so well; I think I maybe should play some Swiss to get some practice before playing any more 8-4s? That being said, I learned some good things about this draft format:

1) Selesnya Populate is a huge gamble to try to draft. I first picked the Selesnya guildmage and vowed to take everything that had Token or Populate in the text. I found a lot, but at the end it was clear that I just didn't quite have enough, or at least not the right proportion. I lost the first match 1-2; I won the first game when I drew the good half of my deck (T2: Call of the Conclave, with a populate card each turn after that), then lost the next two when I didn't. Populate effects are generally on cards that are terrible if you're not populating; there's a huge difference between Fog and Fog + Centaur.

I definitely want to try this deck again. But I need to be looking for a better backup plan for if/when the token cards just don't show up.

2) Grixis Defenders is a powerful control deck. I had everything I could have asked for in this draft (okay, I would have liked to have had a third and fourth Stab Wound), but lost match one solely because my opponent was Golgari and had a ridiculous amount of those swampwalk 2/1s and I couldn't answer them all with spells. Lobber Crew is so much more powerful that it seems at first, and Doorkeeper can do some serious work too. I absolutely love this archetype.

I only wish I could have had the opportunity to play this against some other decks to see how well it fared.

Well, I think they were correctly identifying that they were against Jund and were trying to beat them before Liliana came out. But Liliana is a 4-of, and those decks run 4 Terminate and 2-ish Maelstrom Pulse, maybe some Abrupt Decays; I would try to play around the spot removal rather than try to race Liliana personally.

Was wondering how long it would take till someone broke nivmagus. A lot of the set reviews were very negative on him, which I found odd since the minute I saw the card I thought someone was going to abuse the fuck out of it.

Although by the sound of things, whomever is trying to use him in this new deck is doing so terribly.

edit: wtf how did I never see it says exile and not discard. I am a moron. I still think it could be used in a very interesting way (maybe something that wants an empty hand turn one or something that wants cards exiled...eh I dont know) but my poor reading comprehension has done me in again.
