*Major Spoilers* Cyberpunk 2077 sequel canon ending?

Gamer79

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
CD Project Red has been working on what is assumed the planned sequel since 2022. The Game become such a huge success it is hard to imagine they won't bankroll on a sequel. So let us assume for a second the game is a direct Sequel to 2077. What ending would they use as canon. I do not know all of the endings but I just played through it again for the 4th time with my new PC and my 65inch Qd-Oled with the ray tracing it really is the bee's knees! So What ending do you believe will be canon for the sequel. Will we continues' V story depending on your ending or will be take a whole different angle of night city? Will it be a different location?

Endings I had and possible outcomes:

* Commit Suicide on Misty's Roof: In my opinion the worst ending because it does not open up the final mission. This one you can decide to end it all with a couple of pills. Oddly Johnny doesn't object to much to this one. With this ending it would have to be somebody outside of V.

*Become a Corporate Shill and take the deal with Arasaka. They save you by turning V into a Corporate Slave AI thing in Space. Again with this ending it would have to be a Whole Different Character.

*In Phantom Liberty you can take the Reed deal: Trust a slimy government who has already displayed they have little loyalty. In this ending, V was Cured and no more Johnny but his all of his implants are removed and if he ever gets more it would probably kill him. V fell into a coma for 2 years and lost contact. PanAm becomes so heartbroken from V's disappearance she gets crushed and refuses to talk to V again. She moved on. This one could work but V would just be a regular dude/chick. Would be kinda boring to continue the V path here.

*Suicide Mission on Arasaka Tower: V goes in with Guns blazing. IF V Dies during this mission it is a permanent death and a death ending: If you are really good and happen to scale the whole tower it still will eventually lead to a death. Again this would have to be a different character.

*My Personal Favorite the hippy ending: My character was banging PanAm and I became a member of the Aldecaldos. (dirty sand hippies) They help V tunnel under Arasaka tower to reach the Access point to destory Mikoshi with the help of Alt as the Ai. Johnny goes beyond the blackwall with Alt and V goes back to live the rest of his life banging PanAm and hanging out in the desert with the hippies. The whole process has taken a tole on V's body and Alt estimates he may have 6 months or so to live. They are moving to Arizona and PanAm said they have connections to try to save V so this ending could work. It could be placed in a futuritic Arizona with V seeking a cure before time runs out.

There are other endings but those are the ones through my playthroughs. So what do you think will be the canon ending for the Sequel or will it be an entriely different story?

The Reed ending is by far one of the best in videogames. It's right up there with RDR2.

Alas, the entire setup of the game is for you to become a legend in Night City, and the legends are all dead or gone.

New game. New character. New City. It makes the most sense.

That said, depending on the time frame it is set in, say 2099, in the sequel maybe V is still alive but no longer running and is an active participant in the story?

I disagree with the Reed ending. It's like V becomes a government Agent but the Government in Cyberpunk is beyond corrupt so I guess it does reflect modern politics. I would not mind playing as V again but it depends on their vision.

Agreed, "Hippy ending" is the best ending but they'll leave it intentionally vague so it doesn't exclude anyone's playthrough most likely.

Not a chance we'll play as V again in the sequel. Their story is over no matter which ending you get.

There's a million more stories to tell in Night City.

I hope its a new story completely with a new protagonist, I really didn't like V and I think the sequel is better off with a fresh start instead of brining in baggage from the first game.

I feel like you are forgetting the best ending... The Sun ending with suicide run, but you win. Closing scenes is V about to heist the space station. Its the perfect setup for the sequel.

Honestly though I don't want V back, I want a new charecter and we can find clues in the world about which ending actually happened.

V’s story was pretty self contained and easy to avoid referencing in a sequel. I don’t think they’ll canonize anything.

My V rode off into the sunset with Panam and the Aldecados.

He doesn’t necessarily join the government. Reed gives that as an option but the ending leaves it wide open. I thought the whole dialogue with Misty was one of the best parts of the game.

It’s a great ending because it’s the only one (as far as I know) where V does get cured. But the trade off is that he can’t be a cyber enhanced superhuman anymore. So it leaves you with the question of whether it was all worth it, whether V can really start over, or whether he will just spend the rest of his life wishing he had gone out in a blaze of glory. It can be hopeful or depressing, or something else, depending on your own interpretation.

The best choice would be to not have a canon ending and keep the choices you made for V and play someone else, i think it's only fair to the player when it's basically the whole purpose of the game.

That being said, i don't know what could have more meaning in this world and for this IP than the dying character that have to welcome the final outcome. It will be hard to make something as powerful as this.

V isnt coming back in the sequel. As for canon, V becoming normal and living is most likely the one because you see where Vik and Misty end u compared to the others. Only way the other endings might be canon is if they bring Keanu back which means, Johnny taking V's body could become canon. Third most likely is the assault on the space casino, mission done by the Blue Guy which shows up in certain quests in the game and nobody knows what his deal is outside of being a major player in the lore and possibly very important in the sequel.

It should be mostly ambiguous, most endings besides "the devil" have similar outcomes in the world.
It would be funny if V is whispered as a boogeyman amongst the gangs.

Nah, you're correct.

The secret agent storyline was totally campy and over-the-top, but honestly, they nailed the ending. It gave me a level of closure I rarely get from games.

Whatever story they were aiming for, it actually felt complete and wrapped up properly unlike the ending proper I got in the base game, where V was living in a penthouse or some shit after the finale.

I don’t think V comes back and he/she shouldn’t. He/she has become one of the biggest legends of Night City, no matter the ending. Thanks for reminding me what an absolutely amazing game this is and how awesome all the endings are in their own way.

Wont be seeing V again. The secret ending works as the real ending as the Arasaka siege never happened in my recent playthrough so V is never mentioned anywhere and Yorinobu being alive pretty much dismantled the company in Night City. Job done.
