Makai Kingdom Details (subtitle, etc)

stuck my tongue deep inside Atlus' cookies
Theres a ton of screens available too, but I'm on DSL and they're all bmps and would take too long to DL. Someone else with access is more than welcome to pull them down for this thread if they like :)

Edit: Ok I'm compromising and pulling down like 5 of the images for this thread ;)

Leading strategy role playing game publisher NIS America Inc. announced today its plans to release Makai Kingdom: Chronicles of the Sacred Tome for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Makai Kingdom is the latest in a line of hit strategy roleplaying games that includes Disagaea: Hour of Darkness, La Pucelle: Tactics, and Phantom Brave. The North American release of Makai Kingdom is scheduled for July 2005.

About Makai Kingdom
An attempt to rewrite history gone terribly wrong, Lord Zetta the ruler of netherworld brought destruction upon himself. When all seemed lost, three evil overlords appear before Lord Zetta to help him recreate his world. Now Lord Zetta wages war on a new world to become the supreme ruler once again, while the three overlords entertain themselves by creating more trouble for Lord Zetta.

Players will take on the role of Lord Zetta to command an army of determined fighters to reclaim what has righteously been his, the netherworld. Gamers will battle enemies ranging from vicious demons to determined soldiers with both modern and ancient warfare. Slash your enemies with the good old broadsword or blast your way through with the deadly rocket launcher; the choices are yours.

Makai Kingdom introduces a new summoning system referred to as the INVITE system that summons your facilities that contain army units to the battlefield. Every facility summoned to the battlefield will contain your troops that are then deployed to battle your hated enemies.

In Makai Kingdom, battle maps are randomly generated, offering a new gaming experience every time you play. With unlimited variations of maps, gamers can expect countless hours of game play.

Makai Kingdom Features:
" Create, grow, and govern your own kingdom
" Players can build anything from weapons factories to hospitals to dog houses
" During your battle phase summon facilities from your kingdom onto the battle field
" Create, customize and equip your troops for battle
" Modern day weaponry such as gatling guns and flame-throwers combine with more traditional weapons such as katanas and battle-axes.

Will any of that crap listed at the bottom actually be important to the gameplay, or will this game be a typical N1 case of "powerlevel and cheese your way through with only the main character" again?

Three screens chosed at random (not picked from impressiveness, etc):

Doghouse looks cute and good to see the Pinny d00ds back on the playing field. Plus with a July release it gives me more time on Phantom Brave and Disgaea.

I really wish N1 would rehaul their graphics engine, though. Pretty much the same thing for 4 games, its getting a little tired. Some hi-res stuff would be nice. And I assume this is related to Makai Wars on PSP?

This is actually titled "Phantom Kingdom" in Japan, so I doubt it'll have any direct relation to it. As for the name change, I'm guessing the US branch is just trying to build some brand recognition to better ensure the success of Makai Wars.

Yeah, the low res visuals look absolutely nasty on an HDTV. They need to go high-res...

Oh thank you. I did a brief search, but this thread was all I could find, really.

* Oh... different name in Japan. Gotcha.

No, surprisingly, so far there hasnt really been a way for you to make one character so powerful that he cant be beaten.

edit: expect a big review coming from me when i get back from memphis

but i will tell you its ALOT better than phantom brave. Its alot more balanced and alot less exploitable.

also GAF has a fun announcement to make in a week or so regarding N1

If Nippon Ichi's localizations are going to be anywhere NEAR as poorly written as that press release above, they need to GO AWAY NOW and leave the localization duties back with Atlus. Christ. What is wrong with this industry? Is it that damn hard to get some people who understand English? I'm so sick of this amateur shit. :(

Assuming that they did the translation work on Atelier Iris, I'd say they need some work. The translation is funny and pretty accurate but is incredibly sloppy. Tons and tons of mistakes can be found throughout Iris' script. There is some liberty in the translation but it isn't too bad.

Already got mine preordered through N1's store.

Just in case anybody wants to get it through their online store, they're doing a preorder deal which includes an artbook and a pram decal. As far as I know, the artbook will be given out to retailers like EB and Gamestop, but they didn't get that many copies of the Atelier Iris soundtrack so you may have better luck getting it through their online store.

Here's a link

How long do they take to ship, and charge for shipping? I'd like the game ASAP.
I don't know how long they take to ship, but I would assume that it's either on the same day that the game launches or a day or two after. Especially if you're preordering. Shipping cost $7.50 for me and since I am in California, they tacked on the lovely sales tax. Total came out to $61.61.

N1 is currently sold out, apparently.
Actually, it gave me that same message and I preordered mine the first day that the preorders were avaialable. Since they don't have any "in stock" that message comes up. Just bypass the message, and it will be added to your cart. Proceed to checkout and the game will be preordered for you. At the bottom of the checkout screen, it says that it will ship as soon as they have it "in stock" which should be when the game is released.

Any word on this game's quality, given that it comes out in like 9 days?

And DOOD the Prinnys are back sweet! but their sprite quality looks crap, or is that just the screen shot?

Ummm. Yeah. He posted that on the 17th of July, which would be 9 days from the launch day.

Also, anybody who ordered from N1's online store, I got an e-mail last night saying that the package has been shipped and should arrive on the 27th.

The hell? I didn't get any email =/. What kind of shipping did you get? I think I got UPS Ground or something, but I honestly can't remember if they gave you any options or not (it was a while ago).

My confirmation of shipping email from Nippon Ichi arrived also. Thanks again, Ironclad, for recommending getting the game direct.

Mine shipped on Monday and being on the east coast, I won't get it till the first. At least I know EB won't try to screw me out of my preorder like they did with Iris.

there have been other makai kingdom threads since this one. Why not just create an official makai kingdom thread?

i mean seriously guys, can we stop bumping these old ass threads? PLEASE?
