MALIBU, Calif. Are Californians ready to pay three dollars a gallon for gas? Some already are.
The 76 Union station on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu is doing brisk business despite self-serve pumps selling regular unleaded at three dollars, five cents a gallon and supreme unleaded at three dollars, 15 cents.

For Malibu residents who don't want to step out of their luxury cars or S-U-Vs, full serve pumps are selling fuel at three dollars, 33 cents for regular and three dollars, 38 cents for supreme.

Geez here in Germantown, MD the highest I've seen is like $2.07, I can still find a few $1.99, $1.98 places though.

$2.33 for a gallon of premium this morning. That's still not too bad for Oregon, especially since I only fill up once every two weeks or so.

Hah! Too bad you don't live in Houston, the heartland of Humvee America! $1.98, baby!

(I bet it's like $2.40 in the station by my old place in San Francisco)

2.23 a gallon, god damn oil cartels. So is there ever a time when gas goes down seasonally? Every summer i hear oh shit gas prices should rise as more americans hit the road during the summer. Then during the winter its the same damn thing as the cold winter approaches gas prices are expected to hike. I need a hydrogen car

tis is insanity. The bitch of it is this,,, it's an artificial shortage.

They refuse to make more to drive the price up, yet our govenrments won't do anything to help ease the cost.

It's REALLY irritatting that no less than 3 years ago I could have gotten gasoline for $1.20 a gallon.

OPEC is a corrupt organization and needs dealt with.

Don't blame Opec here. Blame the Chinese for wanting that sweet sweet black ambrosia. And when India gets its mojo really going then hold on to your seatbelts folks.

This has way more to do with demand than supply.

This is out of OPEC's hands people. Most people believe that Saudi Arabia is the only OPEC country with slack capacity. Most of the other states have been pumping out oil in excess of their OPEC agreements because of the high prices that oil is currently demanding.

We, as a world economy, are pretty much running up to the point where oil consumption is running into oil production. We aren't quite there yet, but we are getting close, and probably have maybe one to five years before we hit "peak" oil, at which point we won't have enough global supply to meet demand.

From there, things get nasty. Alternative and renewable energy, especially for transportation and heating sources, makes a whole lot more sense when oil is at $90 a barrel than when it was at $25. Remember, high oil prices make everything more expensive in the US because we are completely reliant on trucking and, to a much lesser extent, rail for the transport of our goods. So not only will you pay more for your gas, you'll pay more for goods, too.

This is partly true. But when Exxon Mobil's profits are at its all-time highs, one has to wonder.

I remember driving across Nevada last Spring and paying 2.30 a gallon in Elko I felt like I was raped. Yesterday I filled up for 2.30 a gallon and thought I was getting a deal

I say we drain everyone else dry and then tap Alaska and start pumping that stuff down the pipeline.

Drilling for more oil doesn't solve the fundamental problem, which is that we need to stop using oil.

Wonder what? They're trading a commodity whose demand is soaring and whose supply isn't keeping up. That's the extent of it.

So true. I remember when gas prices first started to rise. There was a lot of press coverage on the public outcry, and talk of single day boycotts. We're so past that, now. Now, when we see gas for 2 bucks, it's like “whoo, only 2 bucks".

I remember when gas prices where about 1.07.

Why? Until it's gone or nearly gone, there really isn't a need to stop using it. It's there. Might as well put it to good use. Who are we saving it for? If we stop using it, no on else here has a need for it. Realistically, the money won't be there to find another source of fuel until the oil companies no longer have a product to sell anyway.

"Because it's there," huh? When we burn it, we're helping to destroy the environment. Isn't that reason enough to stop using it?

Sounds like it's time for me to buy stocks in companies in the renewable energy field :lol. At least I probably have better chances than winning the lottery :lol.

A severe enough oil crisis could end civilization as we know it. Personally, I think it's more likely than us coming up with an alternative anytime soon. If I were to invest, it would be in survival gear at this point.

yep that means... Guns lots of guns. The alaskan wildlife reserve IS getting tapped as long as congress can agree on a budget. But supposedly we wont see any of that oil till like 2007, and even if we do get taht oil who's to say they wont just sell it to another country again.

how much is that per litre?

Up here in my northern canada city we're paying 85 cents canadian per litre. And that price rarely changes because i live so far north.
