MAME + Model 3 WIP

It seems that MAME is very next to begin running Model 3 games. IIRC there was another project, which System16 hosted but they never released a public version. The status is very preliminar but well...Perhaps some day Isamu will be happy playing Scud Race/Daytona 2 without spending the money that would be required for an arcade cabinet.

I was going to post on this, but it's so slow/crash-happy/inaccurate that I thought I'd wait until we got a newer version.

Yeah, a friend told me :P I haven't even dared to try this on my crappy PC. Anyways I believe is the first public version.
The other Model 3 emu...never made it to the public.

At least it's (another) start. :)

Did a working Model 2 emulator ever see release?

Nebula can pull about 30-60fps on my rig, which ain't bad. Too bad it won't work with original Model 2 (non-CRX and B) boards like Daytona and VF2 :(

Damn, that just killed any interest I had in it. :/

EDIT: Hmm. What about Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx, and Sonic The Fighters? Do they work?

Yeah, I was very impressed to see Virtual On running at 60fps on my machine. Still some visual problems, though it's playable.

And as far as Model 3 running in Mame is concerned... With the whole 'no high-level emulation' thing that Mame has, it's going to be a long time before it's playable. I could be wrong, though.

Aside from the fact that MAME won't release games that a manufuctuer is still actively selling/supporting (I realize a couple slipped through, but that's been the policy for a while), there's the fact that MAME strives for complete accuracy and as a result doesn't use the computer's video card to "enhance" things and completely emulates games with the CPU. I predict MAME will have outlived is usefullness and be dead before those games are ever emulated at 60fps.

Heck, they've just announced they're including the drivers for the Golden Tee middle games (Up to GT 2K) and I don't expect MAME will be around long enough to ever properly emulate the hardware-accelerated GT games (And IT will abandon that engine long before MAME can properly run it IMO.

Which is what I meant by saying 'no high-level emulation'. :P

Really, they should include the less accurate (yet faster and what most people would prefer) drivers for games when available. Hell, include both when possible.

It's too bad that everything seen from Model 2 and Model 3 emulation so far, looks almost nothing like the real arcade games. the graphics are just not there yet.
