guess he had a good head on his shoulders to come up with such an inventive way to kill himself.

His domestic partner must have been driving him to this decision for a long time ahead of the incident.

Debt-ridden man decapitated himself said:
A fitness centre owner found decapitated in his car was going through a bitter divorce and was in massive financial debt, an inquest heard today.

Gerald Mellin, 54, tied one end of a rope around a tree in a car park and the other around his neck and drove his Aston Martin out on to the main road through Swansea, the inquest heard.

A suicide note was found in a bumbag he was wearing when an ambulance crew came across the scene on Mumbles Road in the early hours of September 14 last year.

His ex-wife, Mirrielle, told Swansea Coroner’s Court that she and Mr Mellin were separated and had been in court the previous day where she was awarded an extra £100 a week from him to help with the running of her house.

The court heard that Mr Mellin had been staying at various hotels in the Swansea area after moving out of the family home in Crymlyn Road, Swansea.

Mrs Mellin said that evening she received a text from him saying “Congratulations XXX”.

She said Mr Mellin had self-harmed and made a number of attempts on his life during their short and “horrendous” marriage, but she always believed it was “a cry for help” rather than a real attempt at suicide.

Mrs Mellin said her ex-husband had, two weeks before his death, shown her a rope in the boot of his car and told her he intended using it to kill himself.

“He would say suicidal thoughts, but I never actually believed that he would do anything. It was always a cry for help with Gerald. That’s why I find it hard to believe this time around,” she said.

She said that prior to his death, Mr Mellin had asked her to walk her away from their business – the Bodytalk fitness centre in Neath – and their house.

“I absolutely refused and he started having another tantrum,” she said.

She said she did not know about the financial pressure he was under until after his death when she discovered he was in “an extortionate amount of debt”.

Detective Constable Ceri John said records showed Mr Mellin was being treated for depression at the time of his death and was first seen by a psychiatrist at the age of four for anxiety.

He said that some months before his death Mr Mellin had sought legal advice with a view to divorce and his will, and cancelled his life insurance policies.

The cause of death was recorded as decapitation.

Coroner Phillip Rogers said: “There is nothing to suggest this was anything other than a deliberate act.”

He added: “On the evidence I have heard – notwithstanding Mrs Mellin’s view of her husband’s actions in the past and on this occasion that this was a cry for help – I’m satisfied no-one could have done what Mr Mellin did without realising the consequence of such an action would be his own death.”

The coroner returned a verdict that Mr Mellin took his own life.

Back in the early 90's, there was a web site that kept all the the 'grotesque' stuff.

Included in said site, were pictures of someone after they did this exact same thing... Some dude was in his blue cutlass of something... tied himself to a tree... and drove off... It was basically just a head with stuff hanging out of the neck area. Wish I never saw that.

There is a similar website now. I can't remember its name but it had a collection of grotesque images. One of them was from a car accident and the father was crying over the corpse of his son. The head of the kid was open, you could see his brain split open and his face completely destroyed. The father then holds his son, stands up crying, and walks around. The head of the child is limping left and then right as he father walks.

Does anyone remember the site?

This is what happens when you lose a battle with your inner-demons.

you start uncontrollably making puns in an effort to get ahead of your..SHIT

Well, there's that, and it was the only way to make the Guinness Book of Strangest Deaths.

I mean OK the 1st 10-15 get it going, but this whole thread is just people trying to hard to look cool/earn brownie points

What have you contributed to the thread? Oh thats right.

Moar puns!

Two dozen of you guys have made crappy, not-clever puns with the same damn word. You could at least put your head into it before you write something. Jesus.

The internet makes me sick some times. This guy was clearly having problems. I know its easy to make fun, or light, of a situation, but its still real. Imagine the family left behind? Or even friends. No matter how odd of a scenario a persons death is, its still a death. The universe comes together in such an amazing way to create life as we know it. Its a tragedy every time its lost in such frivolous way. I know its the cool thing to do. Handing out Darwin awards and things like that. Getting in a quick youtube comment thumbed up, getting internet props, etc. Its so exceedingly simple to do, and its offensive to even a basic intellect.

Try actually caring about a situation outside of you, the world would be in much better shape. Everyone clearly does it here, pretend not to care, because of the anonymity, or acceptance of peer opinion. I just challenge all of you to not take the easiest route, don't make fun of the obviously obese person that falls down. Have some tact, and don't avoid it because of what others will think. Grab life by the ropes and just take things head on in the drive of life.

I guess now she's head of the household.

SN: It may be objectively 'sad', but I have little sympathy for people that commit suicide that aren't in serious pain or it's not for the greater good.

commedieu, you must be new to the OT.

I think the people here recognize the tragedy. Honestly, there isn't much to say about thi other than to recognize it's horrible. That wouldn't make much of a thread.

But yes, puns are tired.

There's accelerating and then there's Quickening.

Sounds from the report like his head popped off like the cork from a damn champagne bottle, crazy ass way to top yourself. Full marks for creativity.
