Disneyland Paris has confirmed that one of its employees died at the park's haunted house attraction on Saturday.

"We are truly saddened to learn of the passing of one of our Cast Members, and our hearts go out to his family and friends during this very difficult time," they told Newsbeat.

The man died at the Phantom Manor, which remains closed to visitors.

Police are thought to be investigating the 45-year-old's death, which is said to have been an accident.

The man's body was found by colleagues, according to a report in French newspaper Le Parisien.

Patrick Maldidier, a Disneyland union representative, told Le Parisien that the man, who has yet to be identified, was very popular and "always had a smile on his face".
The Phantom Manor, which is part of Frontierland, is described by Disneyland Paris as a "fun-filled mystery" with "ghoulish ghosts and spirits".

Feel like behind the scenes a lot of Disneyland rides are pretty crazy, we got stopped on hyper space mountain once and they turned the lights on. Shit looks crazy, like a giant blender.

At first I thought it was because of a scare but it turns out he worked there.

Possibly a heart attack or something?

That's super sad though.

Seems like something might have went wrong in one of the attractions mechanisms based on the word "Accident"

Had that happen too. Space Mountain was never the same again after that, lol.

god damn, you guys with the jokes. inappropriate as hell.

Anyway, before I saw the comment about electrocution, I figured it had to be something to do with hydraulics or wiring. Theme parks (and haunted houses) can be extremely dangerous behind the scenes due to so many working parts and weird lighting.

The girlfriend and I were at Walt Disney World last November during one of their Christmas Party nights. We were in line for Space Mountain (Holiday Events = Short short lines) when they announced the ride was shut down and I saw the liens come on in the dome overhead.

We dashed over to the Peoplemover and sure enough, we got a really nice view of the coaster area fully lit up. I was totally nerding out over it.

Ah, very sad.

Disney really goes out of their way to ensure that nobody dies in the parks, but the old saying that "nobody ever dies at Disney because Disney rushes them off the property" is a myth. Many people, but a surprisingly low number given the tourism there, have died.

Space Mountain stopped once while I was riding it and the lights came on... Pretty cool. You also then notice it's basically just a small steel coaster. This was about 15 years ago and I was intimidated by the ride... THey've also since redone it.

I hate to be "that guy"

But someone died, sooo I don't think the jokes are appropriate...

im not making a joke

"someone died on Disney's Haunted Mansion" is legit good publicity if I was a kid and someone told it to me on a playground

not implying they did it on purpose or anything? just saying

Unless I'm mistaken, the coaster at WDW is actually wooden and it's just a clone of a stock carnival-style coaster. It's only the darkness and theming that makes it unique.

No, definitely not wooden. I've been a passholder for a decade now and been around when the lights were on several times over the years.

It's steel...and no way in fuck would I ever raise my hands up on it. Only coaster I won't do that on.

Are you new to this forum? What is the real discussion to be had here someone dieing is a horrible thing what else is there to say? He wasn't part of some hoffic crime scene. We're just making light of a situation that's eventually going to happen to all of us regardless.

Why are we allowed to joke about a person dying? Poor taste.

I didn't write any jokes about him, but c'mon... Why are we allowed to have threads about random guy dying if everybody has to reply "RIP SO SAD."

The reason this was newsworthy to begin with was because the guy died servicing a ride that has a scripted that says the only way to get out of the ghost-laden mansion is to die. This wouldn't be a story otherwise.

Hmm, I wonder which I'm confusing it with then.

The entire theme of the ride is death. Humour helps people cope during difficult times. They are not dismissing the gravity of the situation, just gently linking his death with the ride as a form of tribute.

My daughter is 7 and the Haunted Mansion is very literally her favorite thing in the world. She wakes up every morning to the Narration and theme music from the ride as her alarm clock. She's studying the making of the ride in books and through documentaries. She likes to believe that Walt Disney is the "Ghost Host" on the ride, because Walt died before the ride was ever finished.

She likes to think that if Walt could-he would like to live on forever in that ride to welcome kids for generations to come.

Now that specific Haunted Mansion will have a real legend to go by, and people will start rumors about seeing his apparition and such.

Yeah, try making that joke in the family's presence and see how you get on.

I dread the day that I too am sent to the haunted mansion. I remember how awkward it was when we gave grandpa the ticket to disneyworld.

This guy will possibly become a part of the legend of the ride. Hopefully there's some solace in that.

They've had to shutdown Pirates a few times (at Cali) due to people scattering ashes in the water there. Unfortunately for this guy he was working behind the scenes isn't quite as magical.
