CNN) -- Ashley Revell, a 32-year-old man from London, England, sold everything he owned, even his clothes, to try his luck Sunday on one spin of a roulette wheel in Las Vegas, Nevada. He put $135,300 on red, and with friends and family watching, the ball hit the mark, giving Revell $270,600. The event was filmed by Britain's Sky One television as a short reality series called "Double or Nothing."

wow, what the hell was he thinking??? And he didn't even listen to the great Wesley Snipes "always bet on black". He bet it on red. I am wondering whats going on in this guys life that he decides to risk it all on one spin

yeah i remember CNN covered that live ... LAST SPRING

Yes, some time around april 12, 2004, I believe.

I remember that day.

People here mocked him for only being worth $135,000 and others mocked him for calling himself a professional gambler when clearly he let far too much ride on one lucky spin.

That, and the fact that the article is dated.

First tragedy, then farce.
umm.. Im pretty sure winnings at a table are taxed at 40%.. then, the moment he takes that money to England he is going to get taxed again. This guy risked everything he owns for a chance to get *maybe* a 40% gain in his finances when all is said and done.. *maybe*.

Granted someone who would do something like this isnt very smart to begin with, but if Im risking everything, its going to be for a bigger payout than that.
