First Kishimoto and now even Mashima, why force these hand holding moments in and Chelias comments :/. Anyway really awesome chapter just for Sting, just seeing him so dedicated to his Lector and then tearing up so much really made that part emotionally moving. So many tears of joy there makes it best non action moment of the arc.
Nakagamis armor of sorts feels like a high level cheat and even that aoe for it,however it is a cool concept. I think I prefer less bulky armor though, flame pants is probably the best exquip in the series.
Mashima also has great page spreads, epic pose for Gray in the Fairy Tail lineup scene.

Whereabouts in Fairy Tail does the story start starts shifting into the well loved "masterpiece" its known for now days?
I've only flipped through the first 3 volumes at a friend's house a while ago, but could never get into it due to being a bit dull at the start (the general opinions on the internet didn't help either).

I don't know about it being on par with those series or not but it sure caught fire more quickly than them. It definitely deserves a place on the banner in the next thread.

If you intend to start Fairy Tail. Start with the anime instead of reading the manga. I only read the manga to find out what happens next. IIRC, the anime ads more to the story than the manga.
Trust me, the soundtrack and the voice-acting take any sense of dullness out of it.
Don't waste your time with this manga.
When did it start?
At least the first two chapters were hilarious. The third was good, but definitely not as good as the first two.

Plus the OSTs for it is awesome , my favorite for any long running shonen show .

The fanservice is toned down a lot in the anime, although you can't really make Lucy and/or Erza anything other than a fanservice machine in the first place.

The flashback is all about character development (understatement) but from now on, Berserk steps on the worldbuilding gas pedal hardcore (especially compared to the flashback where it was intentionally iffy), which I think you'll really like!
