/u/TeddyWolf, open the email you got from Laidlaw, click this button and choose "Show original". Then paste the entire contents of the email including the headers in plaintext here: http://pastebin.com/
Also someone else has asked Laidlaw if it was true and he responded saying yes: http://imgur.com/7cysESd
I know it's hard to believe stuff on the internet, but I hope this finally proves it.
If anyone needed more proof that VALVe are done with games and Half Life especially there you have it.
really. cause csgo/dota 2 says hi

Hooray... Half-Life fixed.

tbhYup, those (and TF2) are all the proof you need that Valve is done with "games". They are much better off with using games as conduits for micro-transactions and hats.

dota 2 ain't a game, it's an invention from the cosplay industry
If this is true, Half-life is basically dead...

I mean they have clearly shifted from creating single player games to games of a different genre which support a different development model. I don't think it's unreasonable to dislike what they're doing now."waah they're not making what I want so I'll dismiss what they're making"
Though a bizarre way of announcing it, when Kelly Bailey (first) left Valve it was pretty unceremonious. I think we only found out much later through an off-hand comment. Valve isn't the type who puts up a farewell blog posts and notifies fans about these things.
Valve made one of the best (actually the best) game of all time in Dota 2 and people are still saying they don't make games. If they never made another L4D, Portal or HL I wouldn't be too bothered.

Dota 2 was a side project. So was CS:GO.
Just a perspective on what the other Valve writers are seemingly working on
Chet Faliszek is doing PR for the Vive
Jay Pinkerton is doing comics
Erik Wolpaw is doing comics and soon Psychonauts 2
Ted Kosmatka left for Bungie
Steve Jaros was doing Dota the last time he talked about work
of course there's unannounced stuff ,which might not see the light of day at all...
he's been around for a long time. Enjoy retirement and have fun in life![]()

There might be some consequences to that, though.

This is the first time I've legitimately felt like I probably won't ever see a HL3.
I find it hard to believe there is "unannounced stuff".
Unless you mean new costumes for Dota2.
