I love how Carey has the brilliant idea of using music as the basis for time travel and people around her ate it up and now its getting made. I wonder if Tyra Banks has any ideas since anyone can pitch ideas in Hollywood.

And any excuse for Carey to sing All I Want for Christmas is a good thing.

New Line is developing an untitled Mariah Carey Christmas movie with Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment and producer Jon Shestack.

The Warner Bros. division acquired a pitch from writers David Diamond and David Weissman, based on an idea that Carey brought to Ratner. The theme will include the ability of music to transport people back in time to find their truest feelings.

Producers are planning to include songs from Carey and other artists. Carey wrote and performed 1994’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which sold more than 14 million copies.

Carey has sold more than 200 million records over her career. Her movie credits include 2009’s “Precious” and 2013’s “The Butler.”

Shestack and Ratner will produce. James Packer and John Cheng of RatPac Entertainment will exec produce. New Line topper Toby Emmerich and Walter Hamada will oversee for New Line.

Ratner worked with Diamond and Weissman in 2000 when he directed their script of “The Family Man,” starring Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni. The writing team is scripting a sequel to CBS Films’ “Last Vegas.”

Carey is repped by CAA, Untitled and Dream Merchant 21. Diamond and Weissman are repped by WME and Linda Lichter.
