Mario sports titles are so clean... I'm impressed.

Maybe you have to run at Peach, tackel her into the water, and stare at her nipples through the dress.

Edit: Oh ya, the grass looks better than Zelda.

Props to Nintendo for releasing undoctored, direct capture pics in the right resolution. Seems like them and Sega are the only ones to do that lately on a consistent basis.

Somebody has to send that picture of Peach to that dude that lives in his fantasy world called Xenu.
What? Are you talking about Scientology or that guy that thinks he's married to Peach? Why are you mixing them?

If it's as good as the previous Golf and Tennis games (with Power Tennis being, I think, the best sports game last year), then I have no doubt it'll be awesome.

Why is Donkey Kong wearing a boxing glove to hit the ball?

We have an ape that flings barrels, wears a tie, and cavorts with creatures that affront creation itself -- and you ask about a boxing glove?

(I suppose it's because DK's so tough, flying baseballs mean nothing to him.)

Plus his name is "Donkey." Come on.

I can't seen to spot that Peach Artwork, or any other artwork besides Mario & Luigi on the press sites. Where'd you get it?

Mario sports games are always so beautiful. On a technical level they're pretty basic, but dang, they sure do look nice.

I still play Mario Power Tennis and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour regularly. In fact, I was up past 1:00am with Mario Tennis on Tuesday night. I'm pretty excited for this and for Mario Soccer.

Where is the outfield.

Short outfield, huge walls. Actually a very cool stadium; there are even huge music blocks (from Mario 3) that will give your fly ball an extra boost over the fences. Keep an eye out ttoday for a new demo disc at retailers nationwide and get your hands on this and Geist.

I'm a little concerned about this one, to be honest with you. While it appears as if it will be a lot of fun, the lack of four-player multiplayer and, thus far, any sort of story mode or even tournaments, makes me wonder whether or not it would be worth it for me, who more or less plays single player most of the time with the occasional multiplayer battle.

Looks fun, but I wonder how far that will take it when it seems like Baseball isn't quite as much of a party game as Tennis/Golf/Soccer.

I despise baseball but this actually looks pretty fun. I'll probably wait until no one buys it and it drops to $10 or so though.

Wow...I should really read IGN before posting on GAF some days.

The main mode of play for single players seems to be Challenge mode. Your goal in this mode is to build up a powerful team by drafting members of rival teams, eventually taking on and defeating Bowser's team. You start off by selecting a captain whom you'll raise throughout the course of the game. The game assigns you an initial team, usually consisting of weak players, then places you on an overhead play map. You're free to move your character around on this map, speaking with other characters, buying items, and taking on missions.

There are just a few types of missions in challenge mode, all themed around baseball. Star Missions are the main missions that require your attention. When you win these baseball matches, you build up your character's stats. Missions aren't just about playing and winning full games, though. Speaking to some characters on the world map will take you to a quick mini game, or a quick challenge, requiring you to, for instance, get a runner home from second. Finally, there are Scout Missions, where you woo members of rival teams to your team by winning a game.

This seems far more interesting than I could have imagined it being...here's hoping for $49.99 CDN pricing in its first week and some extra cash coming my way...it's releasing around Simpsons Season 6, though. Dang.

4 player multiplayer in a baseball game? Umm.. yeah that makes no sense.

I never insinuated that there should be...I was just insinuating that the fact that Baseball doesn't support it does limit its multiplayer abilities right off the bat. I never expected such a mode.

Although, there is apparently a party-style game involved. Toy Mode...

Toy Field mode is a twist on standard baseball gameplay for up to four players. In this mode, players switch off pitching, batting and fielding roles. The outfield is split into fifteen squares, each associated with a different effect that activates should the ball land there. A square with the word "Hit," for instance, registers a hit and gives the batter ten coins and another chance at the plate, while "2B Hit" and "3B Hit" are, respectively, worth more coins. Making the ball land on a "?" square brings up a slot machine, which determines what lucky (or unlucky) prize you get.

Looks good, though I wish they would give the characters baseball uniforms rather than reuse the same models from each Mario Sports Title.

It sounds like 4 player mode is important to you and you knew since this was baseball that a 4 player mode would not be in there.

Why are you even in this thread commenting on how you won't like it? Move along this game isn't for you no sense commenting on it.

That single player mode sounds better than I would have imagined! I hope there are no power move cutscenes like in Mario Tennis. That game was extremely mediocre, imo.

Has anyone heard of any plans to do a Mario Baseball\Tennis\Golf game for the DS? There's at least an N64 Tennis they could start with...
I expect DS/Revolution updates are inevitable really. I'd really like to see Baseball for GBA though given that Namco has a perfectly good Famista Advance engine lying around.

Uhhh...look, I'm not sure what the issue is. The appeal, in general, of the Mario Sports titles is the 4-Player mayhem...and this lacks that. I was simply wondering whether it could live up to the other titles in terms of overall value without such a mode. I was analyzing the game's features in relation to its success as a game.

I'm commenting because I am, indeed, interested in the title, but wondered whether or not the game would have a strong single player component. As it turns out, the single player mode seems to actually have a bit of a free-roaming aspect to it with some neat little missions that could hopefully spice it up a bit.

You make it seem like I came in and started tearing it apart, when it couldn't be much further from the truth...but on that note, I concur with the statement about Uniforms...while I think there should be the option to play as the normal characters, I think it would be really neat if there could be uniforms.

I'll give it a try but the screens make it SEEM overly simplistic which I think is just because it is Mario/cartoon. Hope it provides some fun though.
