Mario Kart Arcade GP Pic

Of course someone is going to say that Nintendo is selling out and we'll be back to another thread of doom/Nintendo isn't doing what customers want.

Well that could look bad on the customers. If people are excited over this, preferring it to DD and such, then you have to look at what this version is. It's MK64 with a graphical update and less racers on screen. So, to me if would make the consumer look not only retarded for wanting this more, but hypocritical at the same time. It's a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation I suppose. People cry out for Nintendo to do something new and they do that with Double Dash, but response is not as hot as expected.

And I was right, the other character is Shadow!

Awesome, but one has to ask, WHERE IS KOOPA TROOPA?

Damn you Namco~
Seriously, am I forced to take weaksauce Toad again!?

The Namcam avatars are fucking tight. Great idea.

The game looks nothing like the horrible MK: Double Trash, which is a good, good thing.

Even if Arcade GP doesn't make it home, I can't help but wondering if Mario Kart will be "passed off" to Namco anyway next gen. Something tells me the only legacy series we'll see out of EAD will be Mario, Zelda, Pikmin and Animal Crossing from now on.

Well the $150M+ it will gross if it is released on the GC would make it very sensible for Nintendo. It would also make sense for them to pass it off. Mario Kart has sort of stalled in a way, no longer setting the world on fire. It still sells loads, but it's one series where I can see another developer being able to outdo EAD.

Well i cant wait. MK is always downplayed yet they are always awesome. Hopefully Namco get good guidance on this. I hope it comes to the GC.

I really liked the GCN version, I don't care what people say. Some poor tracks, but some I really loved as well. This arcade thing really seemed like the next logical step I think, particularly considering the way the last game's tracks were set up.

The karts look too big and like they are pasted on the track in some of those pictures. I'll have to see a movie of this in motion to judge it more accurately.

I really don't want this to launch with Revolution, I want the Revolution Mario Kart to be by Nintendo. I may be in the minority with this but I don't care, Double Dash is my favourite Mario Kart game and one of the best multiplayer games ever!

Does that list of 6 cups indicate 6 of the usual four race collections? If so that would be awesome. And a retro-pacman inspired race track would be something to see.

I'm a bit wary of the 100 items thing though. Seems it would be very hard to balance such a large number of items. Even coming up with 100 useful and unique items in a racing game must've been a pain. I see the bongos as an item, a mallet, hard to make out all of them...

Mariokart could definitely use some new items but I'd rather have a small group of well balanced ones than such a large and random pool. I'm hoping collecting items doesn't become a pokemon style gimmick with this series. still interested and can't wait to see how they pull this off.

Rage Racer.

Ridge Racer Type 4 is the answer we were looking for.

Ridge Racers (PSP) would also have been accepted, as it's basically a "Ridge Racer Greatest Hits" collection.

Ridge Racer Revolution (With neGcon controller) is the correct answer.

r4 was ruined by its drift mechanics. rage racer was brilliant for its time, but it was never as good as rave racer. ridge racers is now the definitive ridge racer game.

100 is way too much. Is it true?

MKDD had more items than other games in the series, but they did that by giving each character their own special item. Perhaps there are groups of items, split between character types.

All this talk about porting MKGP over to Revolution seems really silly to me. None of us even knows anything about the Revolution and if it's as unconventional as Nintendo's keeps hinting, then it probably wouldn't be worth it to port MKGP over. It may take considerable time and money, not to mention the game will be well over a year old in the arcades by the time we ever even see the Revolution so it would be "old news" even with a graphical upgrade. Nintendo should do the SMART thing and get this game onto GC asap because it's free revenue for the company and it's Mario Kart for christ's sake. Even though MKDD might be doing well, many people still would love a traditional Mario Kart game which this looks to deliver.

I dunno, someone suggested it earlier in the thread. The picture only shows 20 which would be a great number but something about 100 and items is written in Japanese. Anyone know kanji?

Seems sweet so far. I havent played any mario kart since the snes/gba so im looking forward to this (double dash didn't interest me and i didn't have a 64). You gotta love mario and pac-man coming together, though i would have killed for sonic to be in it. If they add in klonoa (very underappreciated character; loved 2, hoping for a sequal soon) as a hidden character, I'm sold.

Jarrod got it right. Can I get Rage Racer for $300 Alex?

Er, maybe this explains it?

Item use also plays a big part in the title, although there are some differences from the console versions. Prior to the start of a race, you're given three randomly selected items. You use items just as you would in the console titles, by passing over item markers on the race way. To release an item, you smash a button located on the steering wheel.

Looks great, nice environments and fast.

Miyamoto quote:

" but with the new rubber-band system that Namco implemented [in Mario Kart Arcade GP]"

...new?

That dancing time bomb looks ridiculous. I could not take my eyes off it the first time watching the video. Game looks very smooth and fast.

1UP :lol

:lol @ Pac-Man hitting whichever character is next to him in the last movie.

Oh, and I have never wanted to buy a Toyota less in my life. Those fucking sponsors!

That thing is awesome! You distribute it to other players by bumping into them! That adds a small new element to the race. The tornado item looked cool too. I'm liking the new items, though the tracks look good, I'm sort of worried that they're just wide courses with turns. The actual tracks themselves, not the visuals, seem more like a street racer in terms of width and variety.

I want a flying cape power so that you can fly over (and off) the track, and make game-crashing bugs that eat your opponents' credits

Maybe they could put in a Double Dash mode for those of us who actually enjoyed that.
That is a brilliant idea. I don't want the double kart thing to completely go away (it was a nice innovation...Double Dash's tracks and everything just sucked), but I also would like the single cart thing back. Having both is like...killing two birds with one stone.

Of course, first things first, let's see if Nintendo actually puts this game to a console.

Anyone willing to.. uhh.. record those streams for me? :)

For some stupid reason my Windows Media Player refuses to play WMV files or ASX files, yet Media Player Classic does without hassle. How the hell does that work?
