I thought all the old courses from every previous Mario Kart is in the game? Plus new courses.

E3 demo. DEMO.

I know, I played it.
Many times.
I wont a microsizers mini Mario kart racing car.

But you couldn't select the levels on the demo, or even your character.

You could select your character, I chose Wario. Char lineup is the same as MK 64. You could pick Retro Cup or Nitro Cup, but it started you at the beginning and you had to work your way through the courses.

Oh, was that also just standalone on the show floor?
I didn't play any other version besides the Wi-Fi set up, and the tournmanet one where you play wirelessly vs 7 other people. Thats how I won the cool remote control car.
I didn't see it at its own kiosk, if thats what you mean.

Yep, they had one demo unit on the floor where you could try single player. It was easy to miss, which meant that I got some good time to myself on it. :D

EDIT: Interesting how the new cup is called "Nitro Cup" and the Nintendo DS code name was Nitro, isn't it?

Teddman's topic has a picture of a sign saying over 30 courses from previous Mario Kart game. Well...I think it means that. At a push, it could mean 30 in all, some from old games, some new.

if they have the old rainbow road from the snes version and Koopa troopa beach from the 64 version i might have actually buy a damn DS.

I am actually interested in how they will flesh out the SNES tracks a bit? any terrain elevation changes? certainly tree and wall sprites will turn to 3-d

Moo Moo farm? That was pretty much the worst track in the 64 version :(

Rainbow Road 64 begs to differ. Bah, Mario Kart 64 had a handfull of good tracks and a bunch of crap. Super Mario Kart is 10x better.

It went from white knuckle edge of your seat driving, to overpowered weapons, mostly bad track designs that relied too heavly on shit out of your control (see traffic on toads turnpike).

Either the designers of this Mario Kart really hate us, or they chose these crappy levels so they could dramatically improve on them. Hopefully it's the latter.

What's interesting is that the list is in chronological order -- one track from each of the prior 4 Mario Kart games.

Was there ever any indication of what the "30" meant -- 30 between racing and battle mode, or 30 race tracks? If the game is split between Retro and Nitro cup, it's probably like the GBA game, where the main game is all new courses, but you unlock an equal number of classic courses as you go. That would mean that the Retro Cup should consist of 4-5 sets of courses.

I can't wait for Mario Kart DS. IT'S DRIVING ME FUCKING NUTS. I wish Nintendo would have kept online play a secret at E3. Would have made the wait easier on me.

If I'm not mistaken, all of the tracks are all from the first cups of their respective games as well. I really do think there will be more.

They should add Mario Kart Arcade GP tracks.....

Not that I know what any of them are - but why not? ha

Too bad Koopa Beach is also in the Mushroom Cup of MK64, we may not get it. Moo Moo Farms is my brothers favorite level in the game, so at least he'll be happy.

I hope they include most of the classic tracks from the entire Mario Kart (sans Gamecube) series
I'm sure its not that hard, and would really increase the value of the game.

If it really does have 30+ tracks old and new, this is going to be one of my favourite games ever even without online. The fact that it has it just sweetens the deal!

I just hope they aren't tough to unlock. MK: Super Circuit on GBA had like forty tracks, but you had to unlock all the SNES tracks by getting 100 coins and A rank on each cup or something.

I'd rather have just had them all at the beginning, or unlockable by getting gold trophies in all the new cups.

I never found this to be a challenge at all, or even tedious, but maybe that's just me. At least I don't think so anyways, but I don't remember any frustration over it, that's for sure.

I agree, I actually found the challenge level just about right for unlocking the tracks. It really forced me to learn to drive each track perfectly. Occasionally I would be irriatted when the cheating AI would screw me over at the last second, but overall it was all good.

For those of you that played Mario Kart DS at E3, did it feel more like Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart Super Circuit (both of which I loved) or more like Mario Kart Double Dash (which I was less than impressed with)?

Not only are those 4 tracks all from the first cups in the respective games, 3 of them are the very first tracks. The only exception is Moo Moo Farm, but the N64's first track was Luigi Raceway, and they wouldn't want two Luigi tracks in the same cup, so they went for the second one, Moo Moo Farm.

Given that, I think we can be pretty hopeful about the chances of tougher, more interesting tracks showing up in other Retro cups.

I'd have to say none of the above. It felt most like Mario Kart 64. Or maybe a combination of Mario Kart Super Circuit and MK 64. Definitely didn't feel much at all like Double Dash, since there is a jump button and only one driver.

You couldn't possibly have liked Double Dash more? I still consider MK64 the best for multiplayer, and that's a good thing considering MK DS will be online.

I hated MK64 too, but it wasn't because of the way the karts handled or felt. It was the cheating-bastard AI. I didn't like Super Circuit for the slippery handling. I loathed SMK because of the even slipperier handling and more cheating-bastarder AI.

I concur.

The videos look outrageously fun. I could be wrong, but the sense of speed looked exponentially greater than the average Mario Kart outing.

I really do hope for less lamebrain track layouts though, the few videos suggest ULTRAWIDE basic oval shapes, almost zero obstacles, and missing the handicap coin looting. I'm waiting for a 3D Kart to deliver the same track madness as that of Special Cup on SMK SNES. Both MK64 and especially DD failed miserably.

Yeah, same here. :/ I'll still give the game a chance though...it was the game's tracks I didn't really like, not the game play as much.

Never played Double Dash, to be honest. MK64 put me off that much. I played the Battle mode a few times but didn't find it fun. I liked racing against humans just a little bit more. The problem with MK64 was that the karts went as fast as snails and the track designs were so unbelievably boring. If MKDS is more of the same, I'm definitely passing.
