Mario Maker Rumor Discussion Thread

That's a terrible hand, it's been stretched so look at the size of that thumb! Very un-Nintendolike. I say fake.

Well Nintendo's marketing materials must have been very un-Nintendolike then, because that's where the hand came from.

You know the first stuff people are going to make in Mario Maker is SMB 1-1.

Full circle.

I'm not seeing this game supporting NFC for other Nintendo IPs with that name. But that's video game forum logic so I should disregard it.

I'd imagine there's a good chance that will be included anyway. There's bound to be some demo levels (or even a full retro style game).

I can also see this being a retail release as well as eshop (hopefully budget priced). They'll want this on store shelves.

I'm going to be really dissapointed if there isn't some way of choosing which Mario engine you'd want to use. I'd rather make World romhacks than any of the NES ones.

EDIT:
I hope you can choose the playstyle. I'd prefer SMW graphics and gameplay to SMB1

Damn dude, stole my post from me before i could make it lol.

Hmm, I guess it would depend on when they expect to actually release this NFC stuff and whether they have promotional images ready. But then there's already that Mario figurine image being used in investor relations slides.

Seeing those past E3 images does make one look at this image and think fake though, but then maybe with some better lighting and once it's fully assembled it will look less underwhelming.

It does beg the question, if fake, what is McWhertor on about in the OP tweet - trolling?

Could you or somebody link me to these pics of the Mario-figurine?

Polygon has reached out to Nintendo seeking comment on the authenticity of Mario Maker.

yeah, good luck with that :D

You would rather have what appears to be a game where you edit SMB1 levels than the best 2D Mario games and true evolutions of the franchise? The hate the New series gets is truly astounding.

I assume he meant the N series. As in these:

pxK6U66.jpg

Not that it quite fits for me in that regard either.

The whole idea would be great if it worked and integrated with NSMB2 or something....
We'll see.
It's 2009 again with the NSMBW leak :)
That's the only leaks we ever get from Nintendo anyway :/

Guys I just realized, this is a big fake.

Reason?

Look at the other three columns, they are white and only show a character, probably that's what the front column actually looks like.

:(

Are you being sarcastic?

Now that I looked more, there's a difference with the columns. The front one, which has the Mario Maker banner on it, has a grey panel on the top half of the column. The other three have this grey panel on the bottom half.

Also, the Mario Maker column is in the center of six demo stations(well technically 12, one on each side), while the other three are not. These demo stations also seem to have spots where a tv is to be mounted, and the color of the demo stations matches the color of the Wii U game cases. The Mario Maker banner shows a Wii U stylus. So it all falls in place.

I have been saying since we went past two of those NSMB titles that they it's like Nintendo is just employing rom hackers to make their new Mario sidescrollers, and that instead of releasing new ones they may as well just release one with a level editor and call it good. I am so glad this has come true, and I just hope the NES appearance is only one aspect of it and there are plenty of tile sets.

I didnt read the whole thread, but i bet somebody in some page said "They should make a 3d Mario Maker so it can be the new Minecraft"

and i agree with this

I'm expecting Kaizo Mario remakes.

I expect this to be stuck in classic Mario style and budget. We can't have it make New Super Mario Bros obsolete, now.

But if allowed for customisation like Zelda Classic (while still being bound by Zelda 1 style limitations) I would not object.

While I do prefer the weighty handling of the original SMB to Mario World* the games from 3 onward had more variety in stage design so I hope there's a mixture of assets from all the 2D games rather than the first game's simple tiles.

*I like NSMBU best of all.

The placement still bothers me, why put 3 Smash columns there and follow it up with Mario Maker like that? It'd make more sense if each was a different game.

I hope that, given that this is real (which I really think it is), they let the Wario Ware DIY team design it.

They really nailed the balance between complexity and usability in that one, it´s amazing what you could do with it - it´s bascially what I imagined a new Mario Paint to be. Even the interface is strongly reminiscent of it. I expected something very basic and simple and was really impressed with how flexible it was.

Flipnote Studio is another example of Nintendo doing concent creation apps right. Man, I love doing little animation in that, I wonder what happened to the 3DS version...

Mario Maker is likely to be something a lot simpler, I assume - the NES Mario games are perfect for simple drag-and-drop editing - but I secretly hope that it goes a bit deeper than that.

Try reading what I wrote, yes that's where the source image came from but it's been stretched vertically and looks terrible.

I've made this serial mistake of doubting Nintendo. Dual screens? Motion controls? GamePad? None of them excited me when announced but I found all of them immensely fun to actually play. I'm feeling myself unhyped about this possible game but as I have burned myself in the past by doubting Nintendo, I don't want to do it again because my feeling is that there must be something exciting about the possibilites of this game that I'm just not seeing. Can anyone explain what would make this awesome and what their hope is for this product? (Paging Neiteio, master of hype!)

That should totally be what they're aiming for! Streetpass functionality so that you can share buildings/levels with people, take on a level with 4 or more friends, Wii U online play, it'd be great.

If this ends up being Nintendo's answer to LBP and Minecraft and finally provides them with a game for user created content then I see that as a disaster.... for my own gaming time. The only reason my son doesn't spend much time on the Wii U is because those other games are on the PS3. If that comes out, I'm going to lose my Wii U to him and his friends as well.

I still don't believe this rumor

damn it only became Friday 8 hours ago

Tuesday is so far away, I want to know everything need better photos
after so many years of E3 being held at the same place I can't believe some guys have not made it a point in just invading the setups and taking good quality photos

I am sure security is tight but it can't be the Oval Office

Looks very fake to me, plus iirc nintendo themselves were against this idea.
Mario level design is not a game ;-)
I agree that it's fake, but Mario level design would be a compelling game for many people, let alone the fact that you could PLAY other people's levels...

I'm glad you made this post.

I, like many others in this thread, lack a natural creative drive. I have never had a great desire to use customization features or level editors. One of this things that made Wario Ware DIY so great is that it actually structured a single player experience around learning to use the tools. In some sense it was just a robust tutorial, but I greatly enjoyed how it presented you with baby steps so you never felt overwhelmed with the tool set. If simply given the tools, I would never have known where to start.

One of the early 'challenges' had you make pixel art for a Dragon Quest style monster. Instead of simply having you draw it, it had you first do the eyes, then the mouth, then the body, and then the game assembled it for you in an interesting way.

I have personally never spent any time with level editors (official or unofficial) but I have faith that Nintendo could make a fun piece of software based around this concept.

(I recognize that this might be fake but it is fun to speculate)

While this will be a fun game/level editor I guess we can say now that this will probably be the big reveal they have :/
