Here's a deal we would like to share with gamers who are planning to purchase Super Mario Odyssey digitally on the Nintendo eShop.

At the time of writing, Amazon Japan is currently offering pre-orders of the digital code for Super Mario Odyssey at 10% off. After currency conversion, this makes the price of the game just USD51.70, which is close to 9 dollars below the game's US price of USD59.99.

To pre-order, simply visit the product listing here. You'll need to set a Japanese address as your shipping address (if you need one, click here), but the billing address can be of any country.

The game is playable in English and other languages on the Japanese version. The download code will be sent to customers via email on October 25, 2017 Pacific Time. It is redeemable on a Japanese Nintendo Account (if you need help with creating and linking one, see our guide here).

And now for the best part – if you are living in the Americas, this means you get to play Super Mario Odyssey one day earlier than your friends as the game will be downloadable from October 26, 2017 8am Pacific Time.

Provided you're then an Amazon prime member Odyssey sells for £39.99 instead of £41.99 (£2 prime discount) minus the £6 promo get's you the £33.99

The gift card offer is still on but I'd hurry just incase something changes....

How do I buy a Game on the JPN Eshop?

Does it appear next to my other games in my main account?

Yeah, the Japanese Monster hunter XX demo worked just fine, just download it from their store, and sign in again with your own account when playing.

It works with credit cards only I think since paypal doesn't work with other regions.

You're not buying it from the eShop, you're buying it from Amazon Japan.

And yes.

If you did want to buy it from the Japanese eShop, you just change the region of your Nintendo Account (or create a new one)

I wonder if this is a sign that Nintendo anticipate Mario Odyssey to score below BOTW. The recent Switch resupply at retailers seem to indicate that Nintendo expects Mario Odyssey to meet or exceed BOTW's own sales number however if the critical reviews are not favorable, Nintendo might have a hard time moving the expected number of units without an initial sales push.

Say what

All reviews we've seen so far say it's outstanding and this is what you chose?

Mario games almost always outsell comparable Zelda games, and considering the audience Mario games attract (A.K.A you'd be lucky to get a blank expression from them at the mention of 'Metacritic' or 'IGN') it's silly to think that reviews would change that in any way unless they are extremely bad, heck even then a title as big as this and a franchise as big as Mario people would still queue up in droves to find out what the heck went wrong to result in an awful Mario game.

TL;DR, nah it's not a sign of anything.

Don't be silly.

All the reviews so far(edge and famitsu) seem to indicate that Mario Odyssey may not score as well as BOTW. BOTW had 40/40 from famitsu. Mario Odyssey may score very high, just not as high as BOTW which was what I was getting at.

For Nintendo to push for a sales of Mario Odyssey before its release, there has to be justified concerns that the expected initial sales number is not going to be met. I would imagine a highly anticipated release like Mario Odyssey, Nintendo's own sales forecast relies heavily on critical reviews.

Not really. It's a mainline Mario game.

That's a guarantee seller. Especially when the Switch is popular. Easy buy for people. They won't care about review.

This is a standard-discount for ALL games since the 3DS-era on Amazon.jp

Please, tell me you are joking and you dont really believe Nintendo is scared because of a 39/40 in famitsu lol

What? wha?

Go back and read who is doing the promotion.

Amazon is eating the $9 to get people in Japan to use their digital games service. Digital adoption in Japan Had/has been much lower than in the west.

Also this is a universal sku, so buy it in the Japan Eshop and you will play it in English.

If you don't have a US Amazon Prime account this is a good deal if you are going digital.

Lastly to answer another question, digital purchases are account based but they do have some weird rules around downloading and playing on more than one system. Essentially you can't, not without some kind of fuckery. Iirc yiu can't download a game to two systems at once? Or was it that two people can't be playing the game at the same time? Not 100% sure. I just know they are account based but it doesn't work like Playstation.

Is this sarcasm?

What do you mean by all the reviews so far? There's only been two, as you said. One of which is the same score that outlet gave to Botw. You're not making sense.

Secondly, since when do review scores affect sales on that level? A 9 or a 10.. How does that change anything? Why would Nintendo plan their entire marketing and sales expectations around whether Mario scores higher than Zelda?

It will sell more than Zelda just for the fact that it's a mainline Mario game.

lol at Nintendo being scared by getting 39 on Famitsu.

Famitsu's score doesn't mean anything. They were once respected but now they are corrupted as hell and review certain games better if they got paid.

Stuff like Jojo all-star battle and FF XIII-2 got a full score even though they were both 'not so great'.

Alright now I feel bad for wasting my time giving you the benefit of the doubt.

You cannot be serious right now. Even getting past the ridiculousness of the fact that it's one out of 5 people who gave it 'only' a 9 rather than a 10, refer to my original comment.

This game may sell 10+ million and if it does, I wager 90% of those sales (9 million just so you understand) don't even know what EDGE and/or Famitsu are.

This is a crazy supposition.

Anyone know when the Nintendo store updates? I have the physical version pre-ordered, but if I could play it sooner on release day, I’d rather go digital.

Neat, I'm sticking with my physical Amazon preorder for the same price, but being able to play it a day early due to releasing at midnight JST is tempting

I'm not hundred percent sure but I think JP eshop updates at 12:00am JST, which is around 11:am EST.

Meh, I'll get it from the US eShop for $42 thanks to the recurring 30% off deal from pcgamesupply (saved up with $10 code at a time).

Or physical version from amazon.com with 20% off with Prime.

Just FWIW posters on here (including myself) have many times found Amazon's release day delivery to be unreliable. So I would make sure to keep on it and bug them 1-2 days before to make sure it's really going to arrive on release day. (Or just go with this digital deal.) Just my two cents, hope it's helpful.

Famitsu’s not the bellwether for how other reviewers will rate the game.
