Mario Sunshine > Mario 64

SM64 is better by far. I mean we are comparing a genre-creator and a game that could be used in game-making school as an example of how to make games against a game that the only thing going for it is a gimmicky water pump, not only that but the levels in SM64 were varied you had your Haunted Mansion, your fire level, you cave level, your water level I mean so many different themes running througth those levels that made SM64 really special whereas in SMS the only theme present was that fucking tropical theme that by the third level I was tired of it.

in short SM64>>>>>>>>>SMS.

SMS is a mediocre platformer which is certainly deep enough, but sorely lacks surface polish. I do, however, look forward to buying it again when it's $3 in the bargain bin, along with FF:CC and Mario Kart DD.

Himuro, you're criminally fucking stupid, you know that? Next you'll be telling us that the GAMECUBE NINTENDO is an actual video game system with a regular release schedule.

Oh, and P.S.- Psychonauts>Mario 64>Ratchet & Clank>Ratchet II>Dog doo>goatse>>>>>Mario Sunshine.

Eat it. Nintendo has FAILED this generation.

SMS just didn't feel complete, it didn't hang together as a whole

+ a boring soundtrack
+ boring Leveldesign (compared to SM64) -->except the special stages
+ same setting in every stage.

so imo: SM64>>SMS (I don't want to say that SMS isn't a good game!)

SM64 will be one f the first games I'll download for the revolution (if it's available from the start).

Mario 64 hands down beats Mario Sunshine with an ugly stick... I could go on and on about all the good times I've had with Mario 64 like most on this board I'm sure... But Mario Sunshine, please... Such a bullshit game, I stopped half way through.. sigh. heres hopes to a good Mario, what 128?

You Know all this Mario 3D games are better than Naughty Dog or Insomniac Shit.

And its true suckas.
You are absolutely right.

It's hard to tell whether Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine is the better game because Mario 64 has a huge bonus for being the first one who showed, how 3D Jump&Runs work. It was that well executed, that it is one of the best games of it's genre until now.
Banjo-Kazooie and Mario Sunshine were the only games in this genre which did many things better, but on the other hand failed in some regards in comparison to Mario 64. Mario Sunshine has better controls, a much better camera system (in fact, it's perfect with the exception of one scene where you had to do many wall jumps), better level design in some regards (2. level SMS>every level SM64), more varied tasks. On the other hand, the blue coins weren't really a master piece I wopuld have preferred more levels instead of these coins and although I don't have a problem with it, many people are complaining it lacked variety in level themes (which isn't completely right, there was a fire level, a water level, a ghost house...). So imo the Top 3 of the Jump&Run genre are clearly Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Banjo-Kazooie, while personal preferences have to decide, which one is the best of the bunch. Um and Ratchet&Clank isn't really a Jump&Run and the jumping sequences which are in it aren't nearly as good as the ones in Mario, Mario and Banjo. Jump&Run+guns most often=bah.

Overall I think Sunshne is the better game because it had a bigger sense of personality to it IMO. Mario 64 is one of my favorite games ever as well, but the DS version gave me a reality check on its flaws (not control related). Stuff like plenty but rehashed levels, etc.

Mario 64 was magic. It introduced us to 3D platforming and was a great technological demo for the N64.
Sunshine was a great platformer. Something like a Mario 64 1.5. I said it before and I say it again: FLUDD was the best new item for Mario since the Flying Cap (SMW).
I loved em both ... BUT I felt Sunshine was a bigger collect-a-thon than 64. 64 felt more like progressing through the game.
Sunshine was kinda tedious. But what the last one had were those BRILLIANT bottom less levels.

so the answer to the question SMS > M64?: it is a hard call to make.

Luigi's Mansion final boss > both

...no. Just no. To be fair, none of them have bosses that should have been made final (It appears that Zelda and Metroid get the good bosses at Nintendo), but Luigi's Mansion's final boss lacks the same kind of climax that SMS has.

Without SM64, SMS would not exist...and yet I think it would be appreciated more. The controls and overall mechanics of SMS shit all over SM64, long jump or no long jump, and the game has a sense of enjoyment that I really don't get from SM64. As someone pointed out, I feel distant from the game. It feels as if there just isn't any life in Mario himself, and that the levels are bleak and boring. It is a fun game, and was certainly one of the most important of all time, but...it just doesn't seem exciting enough. Once you get over playing in 3D, it's lifeless compared to SMS.
