NetEase Games will release free-to-play third-person shooter Marvel Rivals for PlayStation 4 on September 12 alongside its Season 4 update, titled "The Heart of the Dragon," the developer announced.

Here are the latest details:

The Timestream Entanglement has drawn the Seven Capitals together, forming the Heart of Heaven. After Knull's fall, Hela is imprisoned in the An'Hay-Zhidi, where Dizang—Devil of the Eighth City—dares her to atone for her sins. But Angela will not forgive her betrayal. She arrives in the Heart of Heaven demanding Hela be handed over, yet its guardian refuses to surrender someone under his protection. Justice will be served and a debt will be paid.

But while they fight, an even greater danger stirs. Doctor Doom seeks to steal the Chronal Chi of the slumbering dragon Shou-Lao, threatening to unravel the fate of the Heavens themselves.

Can Iron Fist protect the Immortal Dragon… or will Doom claim its power? Find out when the Heart of the Dragon awakens.

There is still plenty of life left in the PS4 to deliver games that does not go after the 4K/60fps target audience.
Given its install base its unsurprising why it continues to receive support.

It's quite puzzling to me that some players would be keen on Rivals but haven't yet upgraded their consoles from PS4. But hey, each to their own, I suppose!

Well, they would, if only Sony would start giving permanent price cuts on the PS5, instead of increasing it after 5 years of release. 😂

For context, a PS4 slim in my country only costs like $150-175, while PS5 digital costs $500, and PS5 disc costs $590. See the problem now?

I don't have the slide but Sony showed in one of their recent quarterly reports that PS4 still has a decent number of active users.

Probably not too expensive to port over either.

Suffice to say ps5 will be supported a very long time, probably even more then ps4.

This might actually work in sonys favour if they can get a handheld that can play ps5 games scaled down without a patch on this remored handheld.

They'll have a handheld that could play all games form the new gen and previous gens. But that's assuming the specs are up to the task and it doesn't eed significant work from devs to support it.

It's just common sense

OH SNAP!!!! I finally made one of these O onQ123 Flash Back post! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

And I still stick to what I said back then. No way we'll see any games on all 3 x86 Playstations (PS4, PS5, and PS6) at the same time. Ken Kutarugi would roll over in his grave if this happens.

It was never like this before though. Most people moved on in the first 2 or 3 years. We are approaching year 5 this time around.
Because to move on you need 500 bucks to do so...which you didn't before. Life is getting more and more expensive and gaming consoles aren't a priority. Food and housing are (and they are having even bigger increases in cost year after year...even more than consoles)

People will take even longer to move on from the PS5 to PS6. And PS6 will have even less exclusive content. I can imagine one exclusive day one to sell the new hardware and that's it (like Bloodborne)

Switch / Switch 2 + PS4 & lower end PCs & tablets having such a large user-base will not be ignored.

Because this is the first time Sony somehow increase their console price as time goes on, even after 5 years of release, where previously they do price cuts in just 2-3 years, which is the biggest factor for people in upgrading their consoles (PS4 had a $50 price cut in 2015, while PS5 had multiple price increase within 5 years, with Japan seeing 2 times increase in 2022 and 2024).

If Sony somehow refuses to give price cuts on the PS5, then people will stick to their PS4s until the very end, which can be some ways off, since we're seeing more games being ported to the platform, despite the PS5 has been released for 5 years.

People think the console player has anything to do with it. Its just the game fucking dying and losing its player base the reason for its release on PS4, nothing else. They're desperate. Steam players are already dwindling. Even BG3 has more players now than it.

Imagine in 2013, when the PS4 just got announced, that someone told you that 12 years later a dev would be hyping the PS4 release of their major online action game. This is very new territory.

they are probably working on a Switch 2 version, meaning they are already working to get it running on PS4 level hardware... so might as well port it to ps4 then lol

I think its because people needs to broader their horizons abit. Brazil for instance, majority of people (and I mean a huge part of it) still has PS4 mostly because of money reasons. Things here are very expansive. You either buy a refrigerator, a cellphone, a stove or a PS4.
So you take an entire country playerbase still having PS4, theres probably a good amount of countries that still remain with PS4 for the same reasons. Genshin Impact remained all these years on PS4 probably because they did research and know a pretty great deal of people still own its.

I had a ps4 up until like 3 months ago and I upgraded finally, largely for this game.

Now that feels almost pointless but I guess it's better to have it and not need it.

This was my first thought too. I bet we're going to see a new wave of PS4 back-ports as developers will see it as easy cash to work on them alongside Switch 2 versions.

the PSP method lol.

same happened to the PS2 when the PSP came out. tons of PSP games got PS2 ports due to how easy it was to port them. the Wii also helped, as some Wii games also got PS2 ports for the same reason.

so the Switch 2 could be responsible for extending the PS4 cross gen period even further than anyone expected 🤣

I bet their next goals are switch 2 and a mobile variant.

Giga success.

I see daredevil is coming up as a playable character. I haven't played since I got to top 5000 in the world on vanguard. The sweatiness was wild.

See, I was also thinking about how the success of the Wii led to a bunch of late-gen PS2 ports, but the PSP connection didn't even occur to me.

the PSP crossover also lead to weird inconsistencies with the menu buttons.

the PS1 and PS2 used Triangle as the default back buttons, but with the PSP all devs basically switched to Circle as the back button. (well, unless some random Japanese dev just kept the japanese X for back layout)
due to the overlap with the PS2 however, that lead to PS2 ports of PSP games using the Circle button as the back button, and some games using Triangle on PSP.
others were properly adjusted and used Circle on PSP, while using Triangle on PS2.

it was a confusing time for PlayStation users lol.
