Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

Yipes want Nero in over Vergil. What do you guys think?

inbeforewhynotboth

Capcom will surprise and anger everyone by using...

over them both

Sissel was another character I really wanted pre-MvC3. I still think he'd be super cool. The way I envision his moveset is that for every attack, a random everyday object appears on screen which he possesses to "attack" with. I.e. a bike rolling forward, causing a ball to drop from above, a door swinging open, etc. Would probably be work intensive though so chances are he'd either be less complex, or he wouldn't be in the game at all :(

Today, I just want Cloak & Dagger:

Cloak and Dagger would be a single unit. You can't have one without the other, y'know.

Cloak would float behind Dagger, perhaps coming forward when blocking and teleporting. Strings could switch between Cloak and Dagger as they progress. Projectile attacks would rely on Dagger. If they wanted to go simple, they'd basically be one character, but they could go more complex, with properties of moves depending on the character in front or have them work as a "puppet" character.

I just really want Cloak and Dagger.

You... you're alright.

A Cloak and Dagger combo character is up there with Machine Man or Man Thing in terms of "non-mainstream characters I desperately want"

So in preparation for a new MvC, I've gone to FightCade to brush up on all the old classics. Playing with Jin in MvC1 brought back good memories. I'm still admittedly trash but the games were so much fun. Anybody else here get on FightCade much?

I got a virus on my first attempt at trying out FightCade. Never again.

Also, I was thinking about stages... It'd be cool if there was a Resident Evil x Marvel Zombies stage. Lol

Everyone is speculating about the new game and im just here playing MvC2

Who actually plays MvC2 on Japanese sticks? Never mind having that on a non-head to head setup -- it would be actually impossible to get two American players to play on that damn thing.

...and I actually used to go to an arcade that actually ran MvC2 on Japanese sticks, and the players hated it. Never got much support from the local community, but the owner was too stubborn/prideful to switch it out. Never was an issue for people playing other games there like CvS2 or 3S (never mind something like GG or MB).

Its marvel 2...they'd play it.

OG parts BNgames or did you pop in your own gear into that egret? Slick cab btw. All you need now is a cozy bench or some bar stools for the setup. Been trying to figure out where on earth in my new house I might have enough room to justify getting one of these cabs. Still not sure what I'd put in it either. Probably go mame since I'm indecisive.

edit:

BNgames said:
That thing says egret and atomiswave. From the speakers its definitely the atomiswave. Still piecing together the machines sticks?

You know, it just kind of dawned on me that with REmake 2 coming, it really isn't all that out there to think we could get William Birkin as a character. That is, of course, if they're okay with adding another Nemesis style monster character.

Nemesis showing up in 3 was one of the best surprises of that games roster though, so hopefully they do it!

Do you think we'll get any HYDRA members in this game? Even if they're not playable? Sort of like the dolls or FANG's army?

I'd love it if someone had them as summons in their moveset like Parasoul's soldiers or Doronjo summoning Tonzra and Boyaki. Big yellow hazmat guys would be fun to see running around for attacks. Failing that though, I could see them as a stage thing running around an A.I.M base stage.

They're actually getting their own MCU-TV show, so there's hope.

I have no idea who any of these characters y'all are requesting are, and that's pretty neat

Does Fox own the film rights to Alpha Flight? Always loved the look of Guardian/Weapon Alpha. I'm assuming they do because they were a folder on Lady Deathstrike's desktop in X2 along with Omega Red and whatever else, lol

Alpha Flight has mutants in it and they debuted in an X'men book I believe.

Only if it's Ward.

probably wouldn't make for a good fighting game character, but hey

Well he turned into
Hive
, so that would work I suppose?

Alpha Flight's an X-Men sub-series, so the rights are with Fox.

I assume the rights fall under X-Men, but then again, the Inhumans and Black Panther are evidently not part of Fantastic Four despite first showing up there. Alpha Flight also isn't that mutant heavy.

Alpha Flight isn't mutant heavy, but it's heavily tied to the X-Men franchise. Much like Excalibur. They're basically off-shoot teams for all intents and purposes.

The Fantastic Four license seems to be a lot more specific about what is part of the Fantastic Four and what isn't (e.g. Silver Surfer, as part of one of the most important and popular F4 stories, is part of it, while Black Panther/Inhumans aren't), while the X-Men franchise is a lot broader.

I guess the way to lookit this is to figure up Marvel the same way you would capcom. Pick a major franchise and pick out its better representatives. Then cross it all up with a criteria of gender and different demographics for mass appeal.

  • Avengers
  • Cosmic Marvel
  • Mystic Marvel
  • Tween fluff comic marvel
  • Mutant Marvel
  • Street Crime Marvel
  • FF...or whatever the hell they are. Cosmics? Family Marvel? Dunno.

Your go to folks would be mostly Avengers these days.
Cap. America, Iron man, Captain Marvel, Spiderman, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Hulk. All of those folks have their own series or have had their own series at one time so a pick of any of them is so vanilla that it may as well just be Marvel's branding and less trying to show off any particular Avenger brand. Though Spiderman is his own thing and always has been. He's a big part of marvel unto his own stories.

So not counting the normal dudes I listed I guess if I'd try to pick reps for these areas I'd go with...

Cap. America, Iron man, Captain Marvel, Spiderman, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Hulk, Ultron, Black Panther, Falcon, Vision, Winter Soldier, Medusa , Thanos, Star Lord. Adam Warlock,Dr. Strange, Iron Fist, Blade,Squirrel Girl , Kamala Khan,Wolverine, Magneto, Mystique, Magik, Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Punisher,Silver Surfer. Dr Doom. Human Torch

  • Avengers- Ultron (good villain), Black Panther, Falcon, Vision, Winter Soldier. All dudes that stepped up in MCU and who are excellent fresh faces to add to rep Avengers side.
  • Cosmic Marvel- Medusa (face of Inhumans more than Black Bolt honestly), Thanos, Star Lord. Adam Warlock. (The latter two are popular and never made it in and likely big players for Infinity War)
  • Mystic Marvel- Dr. Strange, Iron Fist, Blade (the rare Occult Marvel dude everyone likes)
  • Tween fluff comic marvel- Squirrel Girl and Kamala Khan.( Probably the top tween demographic faces they got and well worthy of inclusion at this point.)
  • Mutant Marvel- Wolverine, Magneto, Mystique, Magik. (2 classics folks crave and 2 of the most popular women in Marvel. Mystique offers cameos if included which pacifies somewhat fans of obscure reference characters. Magik is a sword user with magical whatver powers. She's perfect for MvC movesets)
  • Street Crime Marvel- Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Punisher (likely the two top Netflix shows and the 3 top street Crime related characters they've ever produced)
  • FF - Silver Surfer. Dr Doom. Human Torch (The most visual FF member though Sue is likely the best choice for movesets, The overlooked Cosmic Marvel megapower everyone loves, and honestly the best thing in FF...its top villain Doom)

So if all that made it in plus the Avengers standard it'd be a LOT because thats 31 characters, but I do predict heavily that folks from this lineup would be the first grabs to represent these areas of Marvel in MVCI.

Expect a good deal of these IMO. Biggest stretches are likely the two female mutants. Mystique due to how many licenses she may end up dealing with but if she's there for a montage of bit players those faces may come as a package deal cheap and give the most bang for the buck. Could go either way, but with the right deal she could be an affordable means to cover the most history of mutants in one character. Crap shoot on Torch vs any of the other FF, but I feel Torch would go in before Sue, Reed, or Thing. Just a feeling is all.

Is this for the base roster or counting DLC? Also, why no Ant-Man or Rocket?

I think the game has potential to pull in good numbers but that relies heavily on a competent end product. That's something I have little faith in current Capcom being capable of.

You don't think SFV's botched release was enough of a slap in the face?

Capcom maybe not on their own, but they have Marvel's backing, and Marvel is extremely conscious about their properties these days.
They're going to make sure MvCI isn't going to be subpar.

I'm feeling really great about Infinite. I think we're going to definitely get certain characters back, whether they're on the base or DLC.

I look forward to the future!!

Marvel won't let this game fail. They're slapping their name on it, and throwing their ips in.;

I'm kinda worried that they may not allow it in the Capcom Pro Tour, as this game could give the CPT a huge push.

I think the CPT is fine as it is and it had a great year in 2016. MvCI can have a separate league in order to differentiate it from the CPT and considering Marvel own half the characters in the game I wouldn't be surprised if they do this.

So, would the Red Skull have a chance here?

I don't know. Whenever playable Red Skull was brought up in other places the whole...Nazi thing...kinda puts people off...I think Marvel especially.

Plus...he kinda sucks. Gameplay-wise. They normally have to give him some sort of gimmick in other games to make him a unique threat. He's got a gun, an army and some dust that kills you instantly. You could do something with the army aspect but....

I mean, MAA gave him a cosmic cube and he still wasn't that interesting.

Plus, I mean....nearly every other HYDRA head would bring more to the table. Vipers got the whip, Zemo's got the sword/gun combo, Zola creates monsters, and Strucker has the Satan Claw

I think he made it into Future Fight, so there's at least one instance.

Bring back C. Viper

*ducks*

Yes please. I never played much of UMvC3 during the original release window(s), but I've been enjoying her a lot since I purchased it on PS4.

Ghost Rider's probably a lock - right? Being on Agents of SHIELD this season and all.

He better be. I loved the way he played, and he was in my main team.

Plus I always loved Ghost Rider.

They're having a separate league because they think Marvel would cannibalize SF (and with all the Disney money going into this game and its promotion they're probably right).

I haven't seen any recent Marvel title that's given me confidence that this is the case. Perhaps it's only the titles not yet released that they've taken this new stance on, time will tell.

even tho he was shit tier, capcom nailed ghostrider.

I think Capcom nails Marvel characters in thier games better than FOX does in thier Marvel movies.

They're having a separate league because they think Marvel would cannibalize SF (and with all the Disney money going into this game and its promotion they're probably right).

I don't think it will cannibalise it as SF has always had the strongest tourney and FGC scene but I do think it would get confusing when trying to discern the two if they were both in the CPT tour.
