Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Gameplay/Pre-Launch Discussion Thread

To your first question, most likely.

But since this is Marvel we're talking about here it'd be easier to assume that each MvC game takes place in it's own "Earth" universe where franchise cross-pollination has happened - think of it kinda like Gwenpool, who is a character from an Earth Universe that is very closely analogous to our real life "Earth", where she's an avid Marvel Comics fan, but then she gets sucked into the "main" Marvel Universe. In similar fashion the "Capcom" universe in MvC is likely a separate world that has experienced Marvel comics, with vice versa applying for the "Marvel" part of it.

MvCI's story might hint if there's some continuity to these games (looking for an MvC3 reference would be your best bet in this case) but that isn't likely and it might be easier to assume every game is it's own separate instance.

A pretty funny reference in Spider-Verse, MVC Spider-man actually got killed by Morlun who was going to different universes and killing Spider-men. Which means that MVC Spider-man probably just came back to life after, somehow. Maybe he comes back to life every time someone picks him again.

Also note Earth 30847 is what Marvel designated the MVC reality.

The list seems not that bad to finish however it's going to be pain to trying to get those online trophies since people would rage quit for a little reason. :P

Hmm, either mission mode is only 100 missions or there's no trophy for doing them all. There were 10 per character in UMVC3.

I guess they are trying to make it easy for everyone to obtain since many casual players gave up with MVC3/UMVC3 one.

Everyone buying on boxing day is SOL for this one, lol

Titles and backgrounds for fighter cards are something we didn't know about before that have been confirmed, so, neat, I guess.

I don't think it's that hard to meet all characters online since I casually got the trophy in previous iteration, however, getting perfect online without getting rage quitters seems annoying. I guess I could do it in arcade mode.

That's not too hard of a platinum. I hope there's rage quit penalties otherwise it'll get annoying as hell everyone going for the winstreaks the first few days.

At least, it's just 2 and 5 wins streaks this time. UMVC3 had 10 win streaks trophy.

Could be that the original Marvel vs Capcom universe
doesn't exist after Secret Wars
and the Infinite Universe is the only one around at the moment. Hence Spider-man's return. (
No, I'm not serious
)

I wonder how Morlun would play in an MVC game.

I'd rather have
Pre-Great Weaver, at least
Karn though, since he's more visually interesting and uses an energy spear

*Sees achievement list*
Nice to know that they aren't trying to hide the idea that
Ultron Omega
is the final boss. Not to mention that even if the footage didn't leak the other day, we can probably take a guess at the playstyle just seeing the
giant head with Ultron strapped on top and a blue fist.

The only other thing I'm wondering is just how long the story mode is actually going to be. If there were
Three
achievement related to the story mode, and if the first one could more or less end at the same point as the story demo did, how long will the story mode actually be?

Pretty sure that not many people will care of course, but if Capcom is actually going out of their way to actually made a story mode for MvC for the first time ever, it would be a shame if it was short and underwhelming (especially considering the amount of work that was done for Injustice and Tekken 7).

Hard to think we are a week out from MvC:I...

...

Let's hope this isn't a complete trainwreck of a launch... Still probably going to happen though...

Yeah, and that reason's going to be trying to get the online win achievements.

Devs, if you're reading this, please note: online only achievements suck, but online only achievements for getting a certain number of wins in a row suck even more. People will be RQing so much for those.

When it comes to the Vs series story, I'd say the only ones that were canon to each other were X-Men/Marvel Vs Street Fighter. The main reason why is because Apocalypse is the main antagonist in both games. The official story for Marvel Vs Street Fighter says Apocalypse returned to get revenge.

The other games just seem to take place in their own universe. Ryu and Wolverine's quotes to each other in MVC3 make it seem like that was their first time meeting, but then you have Akuma saying he heard Wolvie was a Horseman for Apocalypse and disregards the idea. The same Akuma was made into a Horseman in Marvel Vs Street Fighter.

Spidey is married to Mary Jane in Marvel Vs Street Fighter, Spidey says Firebrand looks like the guy that ruined his marriage (One More Day reference) in MVC3, and now he appears to be teen Peter Parker in MVCI.

So yeah, it's all over the place.

I only recently got onto the hype train so sorry if this got asked alot. There's just gonna be a dlc store like in SFV for costumes right no loot boxes or anything like that?

Right. if you want to buy something so just go to PSN or XBLA store and buy whatever you want with real money. Since there is no in-store fight money in the game, unlike SFV.

Completing Arcade Mode with every character will be an interesting one.

That's one of the achievements that would be simple if there are endings. Without them, I probably wouldn't do it.

fuck

win 5 games in a row

Incredibly dumb when ranked mode should match you with people of your skill. A proper matchmaking system would make a 5 win streak incredibly rare, much more rare than a system that randomly match people. They essentially asking you to cross your fingers until the matchmaking fails to do its job.

That trophy list is "ok". It's at least not too ridiculous in-terms of numbers (they seemed to cut the original numbers from MVC3 holdovers in half) but seriously capcom fighters in-general need a shake up for their trophy lists.

While it's not just them. Capcom is probably one of the biggest hold-overs to this style of list still. If I could give any feedback for future lists it'd be

1. Stop with the whole Aracde/Online only. Let people get these in any mode. Especially when half the time all you're doing is just making people boost online instead of with another controller

2. Stop with the numbers. Trophies for doing something 50 times is just whatever.

3. No achievements for getting win steaks in ranked or any other online mode.

What I think is funny is capcom and others cry when players are mad that there isn't enough single player content. A easier (in a sense) trophy list is a huge help to at least a part of the fanbase. Tekken 7, Injustice 2, and Dead or Alive 5 Last Round recently are really good at balancing things. They're not freebies for just playing but if you're interested in the game they give you reason to do more than you would do usually. Without needing to result to the whole list being "do something X amount of times".

Obviously I won't hold anything against the game for trophies. But IMO it's something they should consider in the future. You're going to get more out of a balanced list than you are out of a hard or grinding list.

I still can't believe we aren't getting arcade endings.

So close to getting it, yet so far...

It has to be in.

Even if there's just 1 image of the character saying something like, "After defeating Ultron-Sigma, Ryu has went back to training."

Seeing "Congratulations" 30 times is...no.

At best we're getting a Smash Bros.-style picture+Congratulations message without the small video.

Well, unlock colors would give you more motivation to finish arcade mode? I heard that we would unlock alt colors for characters that we used to beat Arcade Mode.

UMVC3 had a 10 streak trophy, be grateful.

Exactly. 5 is just better than 10.

Injustice 2 is a monkeys paw of single player content though a lot of that game is setting your AI to do towers while you watch tv or read a book and only hit the A button every minute or so hell alot of people I know bought turbo controllers so they could let their AI fight overnight it was so boring. I bet I spent 75% of my time on Injustice 2 watching tv while I was letting AI farm towers and I had at least 5 days played on Injustice 2. At least we can get colors from doing arcade mode and don't have to buy them.

Well, there's 2 different achievements for completing Arcade Mode. Completing it in general and completing it with everyone. I really don't see how they could have such an achievement without any actual incentive to play through it with every character.

The only thing on the line is my actual interest in the mode.

Edit: Forgot about the color unlocks.

5 is very doable, there'll be plenty of people who have no idea how to play the game even at a basic level during the first few weeks. Learn 2 characters and a few BnBs, go online and get that trophy out of the way as soon as you can.

There's something like a gallery from Dr. Light, right?
They should make all SP modes award you currency, which can be used to unlock stuff like music and sound effects (dialogue and voices), illustrations, concept art and maybe even a model viewer. With the total of earnable currency matching the total needed to unlock all the content in said gallery.

I will say that MVCI trophy list is at least better than SFVs. That has to be one of the worst fighting game trophy lists out of recent memory outside those neogeo fighters no one plays

NRS does that really well in their games. Its definitely one of the reasons they get casual players to pick up their games.

Honestly the MVC3 modding community is pretty bad. Not even one Regina Alt Color has been made. I'd do it myself but I forgot how (I did it back in RE6)

Huh, this video gives an interesting perspective on MvCI's look.

https://youtu.be/A25HB31zxDg

While UMvC3 had it beat in style for days, there's actually some pretty nice looking stuff in infinite.

This video particularly made me realize...

-I think Dormammu actually looks better in Infinite, and is a good representation of with all UMvC3's style, some things with it's shading did look a little flat.

-Strider's blade glowing against his face at the end of his level 3 is very nice, there's more they can do with lighting in Infinite.

-Black colors are generally less murky and things are easier to see, very easy to notice om Nemesis' level 3. This is potentially a good or a bad thing depending on preference, but I do think the blacks were just a little bit TOO dark in UmVC3.

-The effects on most energy blasts, (Strange, Iron Man, ect.) look awesome and generally better than UMvC3.

- Haggar's level 3 looks more damaging but the loss of the eye glint is a fucking crime.

- Cap's new level 3 is pretty sick.

- Thor's level 3 looks legit dope af and might be my favorite level 3 in Infinite so far.

- Even with all this, there are definitely still level 3's that still straight up look better in UMvC3. Chun, Ryu, Arthur, Dante...some of these may look better by release with the day 1 patch, but we'll see.

But yeah, nice to see this. I feel like I'm really gonna get more used to Infinite's look with time and it will grow on me fine.

The fact that people are saying the trophies in this game are too hard to get is astonishing.

May as well use the Deadpool tech and just give you the Plat for booting up the game.
