Marvel's Spider-man 2 |OT| - The 19" inches of Venom you're Kraven for

No offense buddy but I assume by this question you don't know what "consistency" means?

That game looked consistently good at all times, everywhere and all the time. Textures all had the same (high) resolution no matter where they were and same goes for assets, characters, lighting, level of detail.. all of it. And I know because I'm the biggest scrutinizer of that sort of stuff there is.

In their recent games, you'd find better looking things right next to worse looking ones. The definition of inconsistency.

Plus I don't even think they look "significantly" better in the first place, but that's just me:

Five years ago on a previous gen. But sure, we now have RT and 60fps and that's awesome.

Now go find a random rooftop that has a flat texture. I didn’t ask for cherry-picking

SM2 is just 2018 with pretty much everything upgraded across the board

I will also add that this game does seem buggier than the last two games. I’ve had a few instances in just the hour or so I’ve played where things went wonky. I made a clip of one of the instances:

I couldn’t move my character once he landed and had to restart the game.

That is the opening sequence, I keep seeing this example come up from people with Xbox avatars. This isn't in the open world, this part is on rails and you are deviating away from the nav point to create the bug.

Ahem, that is precisely the point, "genius".
You won't find in SM 2018 a texture as flat as the SM2 one you were talking about, because the game is more consistent.

So finished the main story and some thoughts, do keep in mind I' m a long time Spiderman fan so I have some bias towards Venom, one of my favorite characters in any media

So the game is great, one of my favorites of the year by far but my god the story kinda misses the mark and, I can't believe I'm saying this, but its due to Miles

  • Its bad enough that Harry Osborn becomes Venom and not Eddie Brock, but I can live with that
  • The story is about Peter vs the Symbiote, Miles as a supporting character does work in this regard but
    • Miles needed to be handily beaten by any symbiote, instead he not only holds his own but easily destroys them that last fight with Venom he outdoes him when really the roles with him and Peter needed to be somewhat reversed
    • Now I like Miles but his whole arc should've really been kept for a sequel to his own game and not this one as much
  • The Symbiote story was great, the Kraven story as well, it felt very cohesive and the ending with Norman felt really dark, we know where this is leading and its great, but killing off certain Super Villains is kinda shit, especially Scorpion, actually I'm shocked that Rhino is still alive with a Hunter after them, that seemed too obvious
  • For the next game I want them to separate Miles and Peter a little and allow them to breath on their own with occasional team ups
  • Also, not sure where the post credits was going but I fully expected a Carnage tease, but no....

Still all in all, on a number, a solid 9/10, surpasses the 2018 and Miles Morales games by far imo

uhh sure you will

Go check all 5,234 rooftops.
I did, hence my post.

But whatever man, enjoy the game.

Edit:
Actually, there is a texture used for some rooftops that's worse than the SM2 one.
It's just a single one and very likely glitched, but since I haven't played the sequel yet and don't know how common those instances are in there, you were technically right mate, sorry.

Any Spider-Man comic fans in here? I've read absolutely none. But would like to read some of the stories that influenced the games. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Just played the first few hours and stopped at the ship scene. First feelings are a bit... dissapointed maybe? Playing with 77" OLED C1 with 60fps mode and it just doesn't feel as polished as Morales and Remastered. Visuals are remarkably inconsistent and I'm constantly noticing jank that I'm not used to with Sony's 1st party before and had one bug already where slowmotion didn't end.

So far I'd rate this somewhere around 80 but i'm hopeful it'll get better.

So my character stopped responding completely because I went off the on-rail part? I get that there was an invisible wall, but it shouldn’t cause my character to stop responding after the glitch. This has happened in numerous occasions, even after the opening segment, see my second video of my Spider-Man freezing on top of a street lamp.

Well maybe the issue lies with how poorly the mission was designed/implemented than with people with xbox avatars.

but they had a carnage tease, right? It was the last flame mission. But unless you meant more carnage tease...?

Developers said Venom would be a unique story
I love the game overall but I’m just bummed venom is harry osbourne - this story HAS been done before and I think based on these comments my expectation was something totally different. During the game I thought oh will kraven become venom? Will they actually make Peter Parker venom and miles will fight him?? (Which sort of happened but not really)

It seemed new and exciting until they confirmed in the end yes harry becomes venom and this was a re tread of a story that has been done before. Maybe this developer was unfamiliar with this story???

Yes that is what happened. The open world isn't there yet you are in a tutorial space. The fix for this is a pop up that says, "you are leaving the mission area" that is what happens with some other missions when you try to leave in the middle of a boss fight.

Its absolutely intentional, you have to be a real dumbass to screw this up. Its a tutorial area. It only seems to be a few Xbox avatar guys sharing the same bug.

Shouldn't they account for people doing exactly what was illustrated in the video?

If you are not going to play the game, there should be expectations of issues, you could do this with a vast majority of games from the past 40 years. Creating glitches isn't something new and its not going away. One person went out and found this just to create drama and make the game look bad, then a small handful of other people are intentionally re-creating it for attention.

So you think it's okay for to be able to break a game by doing something against what the tutorial suggests?

That bill is the scariest part of the game. I would flat out stop visiting my Aunt's grave and disregard any nuggets of wisdom she imparted upon me if she remortgaged an already paid off house and left me to foot that kind of bill.

Also kind of weird how the bill says Forest Hills (Peter's actual neighborhood in Queens), but the game labels it as Astoria which is on the other side of the borough. Literally unplayable.

Also they forgot the blue inlay on this suit...

I'm going to assume the thumbnail is wrong for this suit considering the rest have black eyes.

I thought my eyes were fooling me, HDR and/or colors look off in this game. But my brother in law came over and also thought it looked off. So I loaded Miles Morales again, and we both agreed that Miles Morales just looks wayyyyy better when it comes to color grading. Not necessarily graphically, but the colors and HDR effects just pop much more.

And if you mess with brightness and contrast in the in game settings, it only makes things either too washed out or too dark. Strange

Gotta say, I don't like what they did to Yuri as a character. Really liked her chemistry with Peter on the first game. She was kind of a Commissioner Gordon and it worked damn well.

Here she feels so out of place.

She's terrible in this.

Also nice "Spider Cop is dead" line. Because fuck cops right? OF COURSE!

Im sure everyone on The Twitter and Ree had a party celebrating that one.

Jesus, that UI looks like it’s from a cheap mobile game 😳

Yeah, it is. Down to having 4 different 'currencies' that you need to upgrade shit. You want to power up and unlock cool gadgets and abilities? Well, I hope you like unimaginative, boring, copy/paste 'activities', because that's what you'll be doing. I've also heard that you like skill trees. Well, good for you because in this game there's not 1, not 2 but 3 different ones. Enjoy.

Well yeah, but I play everything on this tv, so I'm used to it. It's more than soft image: the city can look spectacular in certain lighting conditions, but you can see low quality textures and shimmering details everywhere, while low quality trees and other foliage look almost like in Dying light 2 (which is bad). While closed interiors are a clear step up from Remaster and Morales, there's constantly something low quality to bring the overall experience down visually. And on top of that, every other cutscene is badly directed, has ugly character models and cheap mocap - and the next one might be absolutely stellar looking. Inconsistency is staggering for a Sony 1st party game.

Sorry for going off topic- I started Spiderman 2 when it unlocked last week, but something was off. I realized I just wasn't going to be able to get into it until I went back and finished my Miles Morales PS5 file I started over a year ago but walked away from after like 45 minutes. (It was probably less than a year since my first play through on PS4 Pro, couldn't find a PS5 for so long...) I'm digging it now and I can totally feel how ready I'll be for SM2 as soon as I finish it.

Anyway, this is what's bugging me: I forgot how to do aerial tricks in MM, spins and flips and shit. I'm sure they tutorial it, but my save file was already after that. I looked in the menu's controls tab, I googled it but what I found didn't make sense to me.

EDIT: I'm going blind, it was in the controls tab all along, I must not have scrolled down far enough.

But it's 2023, what ya gonna do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dunno if posted but.. I got a glitch from switching suits too much:

mkZnLLI.png

Also...
There are hints of a sequel that involves:
Norman = He's wearing green in the end *hint*
Flame dude = Clearly Carnage since he says it
Cindy Moon= BUT instead of being with Peter, might be more involved with Miles

Gameplay-wise:

This game is a little harder than the first game ONLY because you can't heal anytime anymore. Need to build a full bar of focus meter first. I think this is weird during higher difficulty fights cuz of the damage you can take. You either do a finisher, or heal. It's not exactly easy to pay attention to dodging any more because of the new parry only/dodge only mechanics and you get a bit of info overload.

Boss fights are interesting. Trial and error type. I'm glad they finally added life bars. They need to get better at implementing arena walls during boss fights/encounters though. Weird boss behaviors happen when they reach the "invisible wall." Also, on one encounter I ended up stuck outside the arena wall with no way to get back in and the out of bounds message just keeps pushing me back outside. Thankfully you can easily reset to checkpoint, something I had to do alot more in this game than the first.

I'm shocked that seemingly nobody is talking about this. Hunters are possibility the lamest group of 'villains' that I ever had to fight against in a super hero game.
I liked the electric granade that keep you from flying but other than that, the whole hunter+kraven were kinda of a wet fart and lizard was too short of a segment.

Except for harry and the black goo stuff, the plot imo is inferior to the first spidey, but i still have to finish the game.

Yeah, the flame sidequests so far remind me of the Black Cat DLCs from the first game. Nice to see these quests a bit more involved.
I uninstalled SM1 and forgot to play those, had to look up some online summaries. The flame stuff gives me Arkham asylum flashbacks, so much atmosphere and creepiness there.

Also after a certain point in the story, Wraith starts showing up on random crimes and assisting you instead of the other Spiderman, I'm assuming this is temporary.
